Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
This such a relief to read I'm not going out of my mind! I've been on and off various pills over the past few years (trying to get the right one) and never had a problem getting off them. I've been on Yaz since January (so 9 months), took it religiously and spent a couple months running packs together. Before that I was getting relatively normal periods. Not getting it made me paranoid so after the 3rd pack I went back to taking a 4 day break.
I got it after the next pack but then missed it. I decided my body was messed up so went off it all together to 'reset'. That was 3 weeks ago and I've felt gross and still have no period.
All the listed symptoms. Nausea, bloated, etc. but am certain I'm not pregnant (I was on the pill AND we used condoms - overkill, I know).
If I miss again, I'll head to the doctor, but this helps reassure me a bit. Thanks!

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
Omg this is amazing to read! I'm 21 and came off the pill a few weeks ago. For the first few days I was fine, but ever since i have been having ALL the signs of pregnancy, bloated stomach, tender boobs, tiredness, irritability, needing to wee all the time...but I've taken 2 pregnancy tests at the doctors and they've both come out negative and I haven't had sex for months so it's definitely the right time to take one. It's just so worrying though isn't it? I'm still paranoid!! Does anyone know when their symptoms went away?? xxx

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
I was on the pill for 5 years and I decided to stop taking the pill about a week ago. I am married and not ready to get pregnant yet. I stopped taking it because I was tired of having a zero sex drive, and I didn't want to be on it longer than 5 years, since that is awhile. I feel a little better now after reading the other posts, since people were complaining of the same symptoms. For the first few days I felt fine...actually horny for once. Then a few days later I had headaches, i felt tired, and my stomach hurt. I think maybe i hurt because I am ovulating...just a guess though. Now my number one complaint is a heaviness/pressure/pain in my uterus/pelvic area. So hopefully everything is normal and my body is just getting back to normal.

I've been on the pill for 12 years-- had to go on it because I had a major surgery when I was 16 and didn't get my period for 6 months, so the dr's said they would jump start it with the pill... been off of it for 6 weeks, and have not gotten my period, but the preg test keep coming up negative... worried I don't even "work" anymore... :(

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
I went off the pill a little more than a month ago. My period hasn't come, as I knew might be possible. It took my mom 3 months for her cycle to start way back when she went off it in the late 70s. I have noticed more oily skin and a lot of discharge. Some soarness of breast by nothing else very 'pregnant like.' Not worried yet, myself, but can see how it could become irritating and concerning for sure.

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
I have been on the net all day & am glad to find I am not the only one feeling like I'm going crazy as a lot of others have mentioned! I went off the pill last year & my period carried on as it had been for the 10 years I was on the pill, went back on it as was going to be in a wedding so didn't want the hassle etc etc. Have now gone off it again as trying to lose weight & my period is now AWOL! I'm also experiencing symptoms like so many others are reporting but as yet nothing, I feel so tired, yet am having trouble sleeping. Has anybody got a positive outcome to share, I'm not wanting to have a baby just feel normal again!

Hi there,
I am going through the same thing as you are. I stopped taking the pill in July 2008 i have had two periods since then. I am wondering if anyone knows how long it takes for your body to get back to normal after being on the pill for ten yrs?

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
I feel a lot better after reading all your posts - I was worried it was just me! I went off the pill in Jan 08, had a period in Feb and have had nothing since (not even spotting). A friend of mine was told by her doctor that it can take up to a year for things to settle if you've been on the pill a long time. I was on it for 12 years and never had regular periods to start with but I'm really hoping things will settle down soon. At first it was kinda nice to not have it but now its so frustrating not knowing when to expect it and to always "be packing" just in case!

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
I gotta say after reading this I feel ten times better, haha. I'm only 19, and I just got off the pill because my body was responding different to it than it used to, and I've been feeling all the things people say you feel when you're pregnant. But I took a test, two, and both came up negative. Taking another one today to be sure, but this is such an uncomfortable feeling. I feel all this discomfort in my lower abdomen, I have to pee way more than usual, and I'm definitely more tired than I used to be. Glad to know I'm not going crazy, and most likely am not pregnant. =[ Hoping this isn't serious, though, like previous posters have mentioned.

hi karon 99_99. i know it's been over a year since you wrote but i was hoping you could help me. i got off the pill about a month ago and i also have pregnancy like symptoms. i feel nauseous at times, i have terrible headaches and backaches, i feel tired. there is a really extremely tiny chance that i might be pregnant, but the thing is i also have terrible cramps in my lower abdomen. are these symptoms similar to the ones you experienced?

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
hello everyone
I went off the pill almost 3 weeks ago, I was having severe PMS and want to see if the pill is the cause, right away I got my period, and everything seems normal, I am so far in better moods, more awake, less irritable, but this is also after my period, even on the pill i was always happy during and right after my period, until 2 weeks before my period, it was unbearable to be around me.
I am having really terrible cramps, maybe this is ovulation happening?? I wonder how long it takes to start producing eggs again, I do not want to get pregnant, but I want to get to know my cycle again.Someday I would like to have another child again.
any input, i feel so alone with this.

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
Hi apuljic73,

You pretty much have the same experience as me, unfortunately :(. Have you had your period yet? I went off the pill in late September '07 and that was when my last period happened (whilst on the pill). I had 1 day of spotting in October and when I was doing all the tests to get my body ready for pregnancy, my GP found out that I had mild hyperthyroidism, which apparently affects my hormones. A few months after that I had another blood test done. The thyroid went back to normal but still no sign of a period, although I had spottings in late January and late March. I was expecting some spotting in late May since it seemed that I spot every 2 months. But no such luck!!! Had scans done...you name it and it all turned out in the clear...so no problems with the ovaries either. My gyno found out that I did ovulate in Feb '08 when she did a hormone test but still not pregnant :(. Hubby and I have been seriously trying since I got off the pill with no such luck and I am getting frustrated! I am due for another blood test this month. It's to check for hyperthyroidism again in case it comes back. Whatever happens, the hubby and I have already talked about going back to my gyno to start Clomid. Have you seen a gyno yet?

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
Is anyone realizing what is going on here... Same symptoms, get off the pill, get a period and then not get one for months afterwards. I got off the pill and got my period twice and now I haven't gotten it in 3 months. And unlike the rest of you I haven't been lucky enough to even have the possibility of being pregnant because there hasn't been any action over here. But I just researched long-term negative effects of the pill and I am finding out that the hormone levels go up when you are on the pill and studies are showing that these levels stay higher than the person who has never been on the pill. People are noticing that women are losing sex drive on the pill and that because these hormone levels are not returning back to normal after being on the pill for a while these women are not getting their sex drives back. I've read how the pill increases risk for breast and cervical cancers and I am now worried about my future of ever having children again myself and I am only 23 years old. Apparantly the only thing we can do now is to inform the everyone else of these negative effects of the pill!

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
I know this was sent awhile ago. but i am going through the same symptoms now. I stopped taking the pill in November last year and got a period about 5 weeks later, but no period since then. I have been to the doctor and got a scan to make sure everything was ok or if I had polycystic ovaries. Scan said ovaries were normal. My husband and I want to start trying for a family soon as i am 35 years old. Worried that I won't get my period and therefore cannot have children.

Can you advise me in any way.

Hi! Just wondering, reunionhchs95, if you were indeed pregnant after these symptoms. I recently went off the pill and have had similar "electric" symptoms among others -- not supposed to miss a period for another week so test aren't accurate yet! Any info is appreciated....

Re:going off the pill Reply to this message
i went off the pill and have only now gotten by period. this is the 12th week. after week 5 i had the blood tests before you get pregnant - checking rubella, std's, liver function, hormone levels, suguar levels. everything was ok except low hormones which proved to be polycystic ovaries. i went to the naturopath last week who has given me some tablets and hopefully my cycle will return to normal in about 3 months. try not to stress, they will turn up.
