| I feel a lot better after reading all your posts - I was worried it was just me! I went off the pill in Jan 08, had a period in Feb and have had nothing since (not even spotting). A friend of mine was told by her doctor that it can take up to a year for things to settle if you've been on the pill a long time. I was on it for 12 years and never had regular periods to start with but I'm really hoping things will settle down soon. At first it was kinda nice to not have it but now its so frustrating not knowing when to expect it and to always "be packing" just in case! |

| I gotta say after reading this I feel ten times better, haha. I'm only 19, and I just got off the pill because my body was responding different to it than it used to, and I've been feeling all the things people say you feel when you're pregnant. But I took a test, two, and both came up negative. Taking another one today to be sure, but this is such an uncomfortable feeling. I feel all this discomfort in my lower abdomen, I have to pee way more than usual, and I'm definitely more tired than I used to be. Glad to know I'm not going crazy, and most likely am not pregnant. =[ Hoping this isn't serious, though, like previous posters have mentioned. |

hello everyone
I went off the pill almost 3 weeks ago, I was having severe PMS and want to see if the pill is the cause, right away I got my period, and everything seems normal, I am so far in better moods, more awake, less irritable, but this is also after my period, even on the pill i was always happy during and right after my period, until 2 weeks before my period, it was unbearable to be around me.
I am having really terrible cramps, maybe this is ovulation happening?? I wonder how long it takes to start producing eggs again, I do not want to get pregnant, but I want to get to know my cycle again.Someday I would like to have another child again.
any input, i feel so alone with this. |

Hi apuljic73,
You pretty much have the same experience as me, unfortunately :(. Have you had your period yet? I went off the pill in late September '07 and that was when my last period happened (whilst on the pill). I had 1 day of spotting in October and when I was doing all the tests to get my body ready for pregnancy, my GP found out that I had mild hyperthyroidism, which apparently affects my hormones. A few months after that I had another blood test done. The thyroid went back to normal but still no sign of a period, although I had spottings in late January and late March. I was expecting some spotting in late May since it seemed that I spot every 2 months. But no such luck!!! Had scans done...you name it and it all turned out in the clear...so no problems with the ovaries either. My gyno found out that I did ovulate in Feb '08 when she did a hormone test but still not pregnant :(. Hubby and I have been seriously trying since I got off the pill with no such luck and I am getting frustrated! I am due for another blood test this month. It's to check for hyperthyroidism again in case it comes back. Whatever happens, the hubby and I have already talked about going back to my gyno to start Clomid. Have you seen a gyno yet? |

| Is anyone realizing what is going on here... Same symptoms, get off the pill, get a period and then not get one for months afterwards. I got off the pill and got my period twice and now I haven't gotten it in 3 months. And unlike the rest of you I haven't been lucky enough to even have the possibility of being pregnant because there hasn't been any action over here. But I just researched long-term negative effects of the pill and I am finding out that the hormone levels go up when you are on the pill and studies are showing that these levels stay higher than the person who has never been on the pill. People are noticing that women are losing sex drive on the pill and that because these hormone levels are not returning back to normal after being on the pill for a while these women are not getting their sex drives back. I've read how the pill increases risk for breast and cervical cancers and I am now worried about my future of ever having children again myself and I am only 23 years old. Apparantly the only thing we can do now is to inform the everyone else of these negative effects of the pill! |

I know this was sent awhile ago. but i am going through the same symptoms now. I stopped taking the pill in November last year and got a period about 5 weeks later, but no period since then. I have been to the doctor and got a scan to make sure everything was ok or if I had polycystic ovaries. Scan said ovaries were normal. My husband and I want to start trying for a family soon as i am 35 years old. Worried that I won't get my period and therefore cannot have children.
Can you advise me in any way. |

| Hi! Just wondering, reunionhchs95, if you were indeed pregnant after these symptoms. I recently went off the pill and have had similar "electric" symptoms among others -- not supposed to miss a period for another week so test aren't accurate yet! Any info is appreciated.... |

| i went off the pill and have only now gotten by period. this is the 12th week. after week 5 i had the blood tests before you get pregnant - checking rubella, std's, liver function, hormone levels, suguar levels. everything was ok except low hormones which proved to be polycystic ovaries. i went to the naturopath last week who has given me some tablets and hopefully my cycle will return to normal in about 3 months. try not to stress, they will turn up. |

i previously went off the pill about 8 weeks ago, and i am loving it..
I lost about three pounds instantly..
I have my libido back, which makes a happy hubby...
I am also noticing more energy...
Negatives are::
a little acne
hair thinning a little
But getting off the pill was the best decision i have made...Hey, my body is happy becaue it has only the natural hormones |

| I just went off the pill after my last period. It's been 17 days since my last period. I am trying to get pregnant and my husband and I have a had a bunch of sex. The problem is that I can't tell if my symptoms are pregnancy related or related to my stopping the pill. When my sister got pregnant she said that she could tell before she missed her period b/c she felt electric like shocks in her abdomen and stomach. I am kind of feeling the same thing but no where on the internet is this symptom described. Has anyone else heard this or experienced this? I've taken a pregnancy test but it's negative. I wouldn't have a missed period for another week and 1/2. |

I went off the pill three months ago after being on it for about 8 years. Before that I had a Depo Provera injection which gave me a 4 month period, but that's another story!!! I've read online about women who have had many different symptoms after going off the pill, including depression and severe mood swings, aches and pains, and pimples.
When I went off it it didn't occur to me that there might be any problems at all! My periods are back to normal, but I've had pimples and very oily skin ever since. It seems like every day I wake up with a few more pimples! I'm 34 years old so I'm hoping this will clear up as by hormones go back to normal! |

| I just went off the pill this week after being on it for almost 10 years. I have HORRIBLE withdrawal symptoms. I woke up this morning with the most severe nausea & dizziness. I also broke out into a bad sweat and had severely blurred vision for about 3 minutes. Scary! And I'm not pregnant. I just hope I don't have this for the next 2 weeks while my body is trying to adjust and level out. |

hi Salisha,
i know you wrote this a while back but i've also been on the pill for 4 years, and i too think i may be pregnant. this is my first month off the pill, so we were trying and i have symptoms like nausia, sore boobs, fatigue & insomnia, backach, twinges in lower abdomin, including a few others, but i have now done 4 different preg tests (2 at doc) and they are neg. I'm begining to think i may be imagining all these symptoms, Except for a few that are extremely evident but could also be something else, i suppose all symptoms could be something else; i also want to be preg but when i thought i was i began to get afraid. when i've had scares before i didn't feel like this. i hope you can tell me how you went... |

The pill doesnt make you have your period - it was designed as a 'lapse period' where your body doesnt take any hormone replacement and because of this you get withdrawal bleeding which they term "period" that is why there are 7 white tablets which are just sugar so that you have 7days of periods and then you stop when you start taking the normal pill again. It is possible to tricycle the tablets which would only make you have your 'withdrawal bleeding' four times a year.
When you come off the pill it will make you as you were before. There is no solid evidence to prove that a person that takes the pill will always have better periods once they go off it. |
