| i've had the implanon in since early august (5 months now). i started bleeding fairly heavily for the first 2 months straight, then only light spotting. i'm normally a pretty emotional person but recently i have become more so. i've gained weight which is really noticeable to me because i'm usually only around 45 kg. because of this i've freaked out thinking i could be possibly be pregnant. i have been having sharp abdominal pains and pain underneath my ribs (something usually associated with heartburn and reflux) i don't know what symptoms are being caused by what, all i know is i'm in more pain and putting on too much weight for my liking. what should i do? |

I went and had my ultrasound to find the implanon and it has disspeared or was never put in my arm and did not discharge from the gun properly.
Thank god I was not charged the $350 to find it. I am now having a bloodtest which has to be sent overseas to see whether I have the hormone that says whether the implanon is even in there.
And if it is in my body, my doctor has no idea where it is and apparently there is only three people in the world that it has left the arm and travelled through the body. I think I will be taking this further because if it is in my body somewhere it has screwed with my ability to have children with my new partner if we wanted to. I wanted it out of my body because it is wreaking havoc on my body. |

| Yep, my Doctor never told me the side effects either. Now I've been told I have a fibroid and he asked if I wanted a hyst *** omey, I'm 36 what the hell, I'm not 66! Then when I asked to see another Doctor in the same clinic, they told me No! We got into an arguement and then I was told I was being discharged from the facility. I've had this thing in my arm since August 2009, and all I do is bleed for 40 days. My period stays off for 2 weeks and in that time that's when I have sex...I'm getting this thing removed from my arm Dec 10. |

| I am currently on my 2nd Implanon. I think it is the best invention possible. The first time i had mine i gained a lot of weight and bled irregularly but that outweighed the headaches i got with the pill. The 2nd Implanon hasn't bothered me at all just occassional itching from the area and my periods have STOPPED yay!!!. There is the weight gain but it is a small mercy to have to keep remembering the pill or having to endure weeks waiting for a doctors appointment for the injection pill every 3 months. I highly recommend it to anyone. As a big wimp i found insertion and retraction not a pain at all. Very pleased. There are numerous websites you can have a look at for further information. |

| It doesn't hurt that bad to get it put in(local anesthesia), it's getting it taken out that hurts. I only had it in for 7 months and fat had grown around the rod(the little bit that I had lol). It took the doctor a while to get it out and now my arm is super sore. It's a good option if you can deal with nasty side effects. |

OMG... reading all these posts I am getting very very freaked out! My gyno called me yesterday and has suggested the Implanon Implant in my arm as well as the Mirena in my uterus due to severe endometriosis... I am currently on the pill and stoping my periods but have had severe bleeding and spotting even on the pill - ultrasound showed no sign of cysts but the gyno is adamant for the Implanon and the Mirena at the same time.. I am very very concerned with this as it just seems so evasive and just scary to muck around with hormones - I realise that is what the pill does but an implant just seems scarier! I already have one child and am not planning a 2nd any time soon but it does concern me to see that it may be hard to fall pregnant on top of all the issues I already have (endo, 1 ovary etc..)
I am going to have to seek a second opinion as this is freaking me out! thanks for all the honest feedback which you normally dont seem to get from the dr's! |

I was told an XRay will not find it, I went to the Gyney today to see if he could find it, nope, still cannot find it.
An MRI is the way to go he said, and I said where do I find $600 to do it, there is also a blood test that can tell whether it has even been put into the body because he has heard of them falling onto the floor before even inserted.
He also said he has a patient who has also had hers dissapear and he thinks he may have travelled to her lungs because she had an all body MRI and could not locate it. It does not show up in your lungs.
The company needs to make a little locator on the implant for when this happens because apparently it is very common.
I may also have to have my arm operated on because he thinks he could see it on ultrasound but he is not sure and it could be so deep in the muscle I will need to have a general to have it done.
Had I have known this, I would never have put it in.
What happens if I wanted to start a family with my new partner, and cant find this, it is very scary. |

Hi all, I have had implanon in for 3 years and am due to get it removed this week. the first 6 months was heaven! no periods at all. after this they begun to be irregular. i didnt mind this for the first year but then they started getting very bad. i could be on a period for 2 weeks with 2 days off and then have another period! other than this i have experienced some weight gain in the past 3 years and it is impossible to loose any weight. i have also experienced some depression in the past year that may be caused by the use of implanon.
i have gone to get the bar removed! It is gone in too deep under the skin and the doctor could not remove it. i now have to go into hospital soon to get it out under an xray machine! so much for a simple proceedure to remove it! i have also found out that i have gaines 21kgs since i had implanon insterted! it only gets better. not looking forward to getting this out! |

I just went to get my implanon taken out to change onto the pill because I have gotten every side effect you could possibly think of with my 2nd implanon.
They cant find it, it wasnt where it was supposed to be and could not find it in an ultrasound, please make sure when you get it that it does not misfire and it is put into the proper spot, i have to have full scans now to find where in my body it is. |

Hi, thanks for that. I'll prob have to see a surgeon to get mine taken out & I'm pretty sure it can be removed for free.
Am having a CT scan in a week to see if that shows where the implant is. If that doesn't show it, will have to take the MRI route. Ungh, horrid.
cheers

Hi all,
I'm from Australia & have used Implanon implants for 7yrs. I'm on my 3rd one. Anyone else used them for this long?
My side effects were zero. No weight gain, no periods (yay!), no breast pain, no headaches, nothing. I was diagosed with clinical depression in 07 which *might* be assoc'd with the implant but I can't prove it. There was a lot of other stuff going on that can easily be attributed to that diagnosis.
Recently, my fingers go numb/tingly/cold, my arm pinches when I bend it. It must be pressing on a nerve so I want it out but it's gone. Today's ultrasound did not find it. The previous 2 were easy to find/remove.
I've read an MRI is the only way to find it, but can you do an MRI just on your arm????
Also, if it goes into the muscle, is a general the only to get it taken out? Owwwwww...
I'd really appreciate any feedback, thanx for reading! :)

| Implanon is a great contraceptive, but after 1 year with it Iam getting it removed. I have put on 6kgs and I believe it has been from the severe depression I have been suffering. I never got one period whilst I was on it, which was a real bonus, but the negatives have outweighed (literally) the positives for me. But everyBODY is different, so one must only try to see if it works for you or not. Just dont feel alone or wondering what is wrong with you, if 6 months in you are starting to feel really down and depressed. Get it taken out pronto. |

I just had mine removed yesterday after having it for just over a year. I've gained 30lbs. had headaches at least once a week, and would miss periods then get one that lasted for 14 days stop bleeding for 7 and then start again. It was just awful. I passed out yesterday during the removal as well. I will never get it again and I tell everyone I know, not to get it. I have no idea how to care for mine though. I was the last patient yesterday and the rushed me out w/o telling me if the care is just like the insertion or not. Can someone please help me with that part?

Hiya,
It is possible it will sort itself out. Everyone is different.
I never had periods with mine. But my sex drive went, gained 28lbs and wasn't as happy and positive as I used to be.
I got it out on wed and i feel great - i want sex and i am happy - but then that could be because we are ttc and it's an exciting time of my life.
I think we are bound to get side effects with any hormonal contraceptives. Maybe give it 2 more onths - see if what the dr says is right and if not- think of switching to something else.

| i got implanon in march so its been about 4 months or so over the past few months i have been getting depressed for no reason, i dont want to have sex with my bf, i have been so tired and angry all the time and i have gained about 30 lbs. the only thing that has been good is i dont have a period. i talked to my dr she said things usually get better after having 6 months but judging by everyones post it seems like it only gets worse. I was beginning to think i was just depressed and needed meds but now i believe it is just the implanon. thank you for all the posts good luck everyone |

| I had my Implanon for 2 1/2 years and loved it. I am deployed right now and it has been the best thing for me. I had a period once every 4-6 months. Right before having it removed I began spotting. I am def. having another put in as soon as I get home from this deployment |

| I my name is Jalyna. I have had the implant in for 1 1/2 years. I have had bad headaches every other month before my period. They were so bad that I had to go to the emergency room.I gained the 20lbs back that I lost when I had my baby, so now I am 40lbs heavier than I was before I got pregnant. Know matter what I do, I can't seem to lose weight. I started exercising, drinking more water, and trying to eater better and nothing! My periods were normal for me, except that I get massive cramps a day or two before I start.I NEVER had cramps before I got pregnant. My husband and I are planning on getting pregnant in about 6 months. I am going to try to get the IMPLANON out before I get pregnant, so that I can lose some weight before I get pregnant again. I was a size 14 before I got pregnant, now I am a size 18/20. Ridiculous, huh? Anyway, I would NOT recommend the IMPLANON to anyone!!! |
