| I felt heaps better within about an hour of having the implant removed. Shocked me actually how quickly I began to feel normal again. Takes a few days for the bleeding to subside fully but with the help of the pill the bleeding has pretty much stopped and my moods are so much better now. My friends and fiance have noticed a massive difference in me. If you are feeling the way most of us have described I would recommend getting it removed and going onto some other form of contraception. Saved my sanity and my relationships. Dont forget to use two forms of contraception once the implant is removed, eg Pill and condome for first seven-fourteen days :) |

| Had the damned thing removed today after nearly 8 months of insanity. I was bleeding every single day, experienced bloating, pimples all over my back, cramping and had no desire for sex whatsoever. Oh, and i was rabid with PMS symptoms. Screamed at the drop of a hat and had zilch tolerance towards my 3 children. I want to be normal so badly and i'm also worried of my hair thinning. When i had implanon my hair was really thick and grew so fast. I just pray i won't experience the opposite. |

| I think Im going crazy! I had the implanon in for 2 and a half years. I took it out over a month ago as I had bad side effects. I ad irrigular periods, mood swings, felt depressed and very anxious and no sex drive at all. I didnt really know what was causeing it because I was never told about the side effects. Only by looking up the internet did I realise how mush it has affected me. The problem I have now is that I am still very anxious all the time. Its drivin me insane, I just want to be my old self again. Is it normal to feel like this after having it out??? Any suggestion will do, I jus want to get sorted! |

| Hi mate, I experienced that same heavy bleeding as you for two and a half months. Wearing pads all the time, feeling extremely tired and very depressed. The doctor sent me to get blood tests for my iron levels which came back borderline, but would have been worse had I not had it removed today. Not only did I have NO sex drive whatsoever I found when I did manage to have sex with my fiance it was uncomfortable and very messy due to the heavy bleeding. Having to shower and change the bed sheets everytime you make love is not the most romantic thing in the world. I know exactly how you feel and can empathise with everything you are saying. It would be interesting to know how many others there are out there experiencing what we did. |

| Hi I have just had my implant removed after only having it in for two and a half months. I experienced extreme mood swings, periods of depression which I couldnt easily get myself out of and on the opposite scale massive highs. I didnt realise just how much this was affecting my day to day life until my fiance said to me one night "I just want the old you back". I was so tired all the time and neither of us knew what mood I would be in at anytime of the day. I didnt know myself anymore and felt like I was in a total strangers body. I have a three and a half month old beautiful little girl and cant afford to be flying off the handle or crying at the smallest things. When the implant starts to affect your relationship with the people you love the most you know its time to get it removed. I lost almost eleven kilos on the implant (something I cant afford to do since i am naturally slender and tall). Please if you are seriously thinking of getting the implant read all the information available on it first and ask anyone you know who has it how it has made them feel. And if you have experienced any of these feelings or any negative side effects and want it removed make sure you are firm with your doctor because many doctors are reluctant to remove it. But its your body, your relationships and its your choice. |

| I have had the implanon for nearly 3 years, im due to get it taken out April '09. I am hoping to get it taken out sooner though, due to my weight gain, which has gotten up to about 15kg. My periods are also irregular which is frustrating, and I also have a very low sex drive. the only good thing the implanon has done for me is stop my severe period pains, which used to sometimes put me in hospital. Does anybody know if the weight comes off after you get the implanon taken out. Im not even a big eater, and am still 15kg overweight. |

| I have heard some good experiences on the implanon but mine was definitely horrible. I got it put in and asked the doctor about any side effects he said nothing at all and that it should be fine. As soon as it was in my arm i felt tired, sleepy and extremely moody, i felt like i wasnt really here and very out of it.. at night times i began to have panic attacks and couln't breathe, i went back to the doctor and told him what was happening and he said to just wait it out bcos my body was getting used to it.. i still did not feel normal after a week of the implant on my arm infact i became moodier than ever yelling at my family over anything and feeling anxious, couldnt sleep, was unable to breathe properly and still felt out of it, it was the worst feeling ever!!!!!!! i finally decided to go back to the doctor on the 2nd week and said to him it has to be the implant and again he said no no its probably just you & to give it more time.. i was so angry, tired, feeling horrible and unable to breathe all the time and asked him to remove the implant, again he almost argued with me that that no i should just wait it out as it would probably pass, i then angrily demanded he remove the implant from my arm which he did and guess what? within a few minutes, I went back to normal, no more mood swings, no more anxiousness no more being angry and like i wasnt here.. i felt normal again! it was great!!.. i will never ever everrrrrrrr go back on that again! I don't think my body can handle whatever is in that. If anyone goes on this and does not feel well after the 2nd day unless you want to wait and feel like *** for 2 wks get it taken out!!!!! |

I'm going to have my Implanon taken out tomorrow as my husband and I want to try for a 3rd child. I can't believe how many messages there are on here and how most of them are negative about Implanon!
I was extremely happy with it, I've had it in for a year, like many other people on here, I've found I have periods that last about 8 weeks and then nothing for a month. Not much fun but something I was prepared to put up with.
But then lately I've been confused about the ammount of weight I've put on over the past few months, and my lifestyle and eating habits haven't changed - after reading a lot of these messages I would be inclined to think that the reason would have to be the Implanon!
So now, I'm not so sure it's so great and am seriously considering not going back on it after baby no. 3.
Finger's crossed that my fertility gets back to normal more or less straight away as the doctors say should happen and that it's not going to hurt to much getting it taken out - very nervous!! |

| I've had my implanon in for 5 years, I don't think this is right is it, from what I've read here it should only be in for 2.5 - 3 years? On my appointment card it says Dec 2008. I have just called the doctors after reading this. I have bleeding for up to 6 weeks with a 2 week break. I have gained so much weight it's unbeleivable, probably around 40 kilos. When I had mine implanted the doctor told me this was so much better than the depo injection, with little side effects!!!! |

| Hi my first implant caused me no problems at all, i do gaet sore breasts and irregular periods but they only last 3 days every 3 months so they arnt too bad. I di have some periods that lasted longer and would go for a couple of days then return but i thought it was all part of the implant. I have noticed my hair thinning thinking it was just getting older! I am 38 yrs old so that probably is part of life too. I had my implant removed and another one inserted with only a slight bruise in the area. i've had the same effects as the last one but im alot grumpier and moody lately as its due to come out next month so i wonder if its wearing out already thats why i have bad moments more often.. My breasts have increased in size but thats due to putting on weight as well. I was a size 10 but now i just fit into size 14 on a good day! |

| Hi i have had two lots of implants and about to have a third but after reading these posts im changing my mind.I too thought the implant was great no periods and not having to remember to take a tablet every day was a bonus. I have a period about every 3 months and they only last 3days most times and not much blood. My mood swings however have been a night mare. I thought it was just me that i am a HORRIBLE PERSON I cant make anything better in life so i went on anti depressants as the dr suggested would fix everything yer right it did work well for years i had a great life, raised to great boys but this year i decided to take a break from the tablets and my life has done a full swing back to the B----- ! i thought it was from the antidepressant wearing off but maybe it isnt.I walked out on my husband (we are back together now)i hate my life i get angry at the most stupidist things i cry, i have put on weight,i even yell at my kids for no reason. thank you to all the ladies that have posted their thoughts on here it has brought light to my life THANK YOU ALL. |

| i had implanon inserted in july this year. constantly tired, sore boobs, more emotional than "moody", and put on around 7 kilos since (i go to gym 4 times a week so no excuse there), lack of sex drive and headaches. prior to this i was on the depo needle for about 5 years. Depo was great - never got my period or any of these other symptoms. Sure they tell you side effects, but not to what extent you will ahve them and the more people i talk to the more i hear bad news. i also know 2 others that did not stop bleeding constantly for 8-12 weeks. The only reason i came off the depo was because we want to start a family next year and apparently it can take up to 2 years to get out of your system. i had the implanon removed yesterday, and thanks to the doctor who implanted it too deep, i can hardly move my arm, it is swollen and have been told i will end up with a nasty bruise (not to mention $110 out of pocket for the procedure). i am now on Yaz - fingers crossed as i am so over this "pill" business. |

I recently had Implenon inserted into my arm, and so far so good. It has been a very very short time, but we'll see.
I keep reading where all these women had the bleeding and side effects. Not to be rude, but if you read the information they gave you, you would be prepared. It tells you that you'll probably have irregular periods. It tells you that mood swings COULD happen. It just varies for the person. The Depo shot does the same stuff. You just have to give it a shot.
Personally, the NuvaRing was the best thing invented... but it's darn expensive. (Planned Parenthood gave me the Implenon for free.) |

Hi,
I have been using the Implanon Implant for 10months.
In the past ten months I have had the worst migraines I have ever experienced. I get them almost every day and they are excrutiating.
I have also, like many other women, experienced the mood swings, depression and weight gain.
I am 19 years old and have gained at least 10 kilos in 10 months and I work out and exercise more now than I did last year.
I am having the Implanon removed today as my boss is just about ready to sack me because I have too many days off due to my Migraines.
I ahve not had my period in 10 months though which is a +. |

| Read your message so I had to reply, most people I've spoken to have just bleed most of the time with the implanon being in but your like me just the odd spotting. I've had mine removed for nearly 2 weeks now and still no sign of a period and I'm trying for a family as well. I've also had the same symptoms since having it removed, but i'm not pregnant and i've been doing ovulation tests as well & also nothing. I was told to go to the doctors if i've not had a period in 6 weeks since removal. Good luck |

Hi
I found this site today and find it worrying that nobody seems to have the same problem as i have. I have had the implant for just over a year now and it sounded great at first. After a week of it being inserted, i came on an extremely heavy period which didnt stop for 7 months!!! (apart from a 2 day break) I went back to the family planning clinic where they suggested to give it to a year and it will settle down. So after 7 months i was having a two week period and then a week break. I decided to go back to the family planning clinic again where they suggested i have tests done for STI's. I was 99% certain i did not have one but took their advice anyway. So 2 weeks after a very uncomfortable examination, i was told i was clear of any infection so I am having another appointment with the clinic in the next few days. I seriously would not recommend this birth control to ANYONE, however, i think im going to stick it out until the 18 months mark as i have been on 2 types of pill (which made me stupidly moody and lose all sex drive....so whats the point in having birth control when you dont want sex, right?). Oh and another thing i forgot to mention - i am now on iron supplements as i now have iron-defficiency anemia. If ANYBODY had a similar problem, please get in touch as i love the idea of the implant but not having a very good experience.
Thanks |

Hi,
I am wondering if anyone who has had the implanon in for OVER 2 YEARS has ANY COMMENTS on WHAT HAPPENED AFTER THAT time... did they notice any changes at that stage perhaps related to the concentration of the hormone wavering? I in particular are beginning to notice slight weight gain but shrinking in the bust area and thinning of my hair. I get slightly heavier periods/spotting when it occurs and when it does it usually lasts longer (a couple weeks compared to a couple days in the previous years). I am especially interested in hearing if anyone else had experienced breasts shrinking or thinning hair. |

| im only 17, when i started having sex at 16 i thought Implanon was the best choice. ( since i only had to get it replaced every 3 years ) My Gyno told me i would either have little to NO period. She also never mentioned at ALL that i would have any mood changes. Im a teen, so of course im already depressed and i already have anxiety issues. Now after almost a year of Implanon, i have had my period once BUT... it has been for over 2 months long. YEAH! try having pms and no sex for over two months straight. Im officially pissed off. Now the real question. Does anybody recommend any other B.C.????? |

I have not had one period since the day i got it, i have morning sickness everyday, i have put on 10 kilos, i used to be a size 8 im now a 12. i havent changed my eating habits and i still regularly excersize so i know its directly from the implant. im removing it at the end of the year because i cant handle it anymore i feel like im pregannt 24/7 im sick and tired of always being sick and tired. i definately dont recomment the implanon and i wish i never had it put in. i gain weight everyday i hate it!!! |

Hi, I have had the same side effects as mentioned by alot of ladies here
i had the implant put in about 8 months ago when i was 20 yrs old and had a healthy weight of 58kg, i am now 21 yrs old, have put on almost 10kg and eat the exact same foods i did before, and i am exercising even more! i have the same job live in te same house, the only thing that has changed since i put on weight was that i had the implant put in. I now have no sex drive what so ever, have my period almost every 2 weeks for about 6 days, i just want to sleep all the time. i also had to be put on anti depressents as i was constantly crying and upset about nothing, i have terrible mood swings and now suffer from claustrophiobia. 8 months ago i was a confident, healthy slim 20 yr old. now im miserable depressed ''overweight'' 21 yr old. i am having it removed in a week or so and i have everything goes back to normal. i also hope i dont have trouble in having children when i plan to in 5 yrs or so. thankfully my bf is still by my side and hasnt left me after the past horrible 8 months! congrats to all the ladies who are pregnant after having it removed, and all my luck to ladies who are trying! xx |
