I've had Mirena in now for almost 2 years now and I'm thinking about taking it out (by a proffessional of course) it's giving me all the side effect you can have, bloating, thats not the word, I feel like i'm going to explode at times, headaches, tender breasts, pimples, my siatica nerve at the back of my leg, depression, mood swings, and I can not loose any weight no matter what I try.
I go to the gym 3 to 4 times a week and try to excersise the other days, I'm active during the day all day, I'm at my wits end with this, I went to the doctor and got some weight loss tablets to see if this helps with my weight, but I've only been on it for about 5 days now, its wonderfull cause it helps with the appetite, and I'm not feeling bloated at night.
I'm glad that their are others out there that feel the same way about this product. Good Luck ladies
If anyone has any other suggestions please post........ :) |

Hi kylamessina,
I have had my MARINA (where my husband thinks he should park his boat) for the last 12 months!I am in the process of making my appointment to have this devise removed. it has caused every symptom you have said & some. My husband & I do not have a sex life since the MARINA, as spotting occurs 3 weeks out of four!I have experienced cramps from my groin down to my knees where i have never before.I have also been bloated day on day off.I have gone from a size 10 to 14 in one day! I don't know the answer, but if I find one you will be the first to know. Cheers Jo |

Hi. I got my IUD about 18 months ago. YIKES. I went to the doctor and complained because all I do is bleed and he said it is normal. I cramp like crazy at times, and I HAVE to wear a panty liner at all times because I spot blood. My sex life has went down heal because of it.
People react to the marina in diffrent ways. I will continue to try to handle what I am going thru, but I wish you all the best of luck. Most people tell me good things about it, and they love it. |

Hi,
The Marina has a life of 4 to 5 years so it sounds like you need to get it replaced. I have had mine for 2 years and yes it does really hurt when inserted but it works really well, so you have to weigh up if you want heavy heavy periods or a bit of pain for a few hours. I had extremely bad periods for years and am so glad I got the marina. Just make sure you have regular smears by your gyno then he/she will check the marina to make sure all is fine. I am in my 40's and the docs reckon the marina helps your hormone levels as you go into menapause. |

| Hi, just wondering if the device is noticable when it came out. I had one inserted in March this year and had about 4 mths of spotting then nothing for 2 mths then this month I'm bleeding again. I am very bloated and I have bad cramps that I thought I wouldn't experience with the device in place. Just wondering if anyone else has experienced this. Cheers |

| I had the Marina Device inserted in May however I noticed that I was losing fluid down there. When I told my doctor he said that's your body trying to reject the IUD. In July the IUD came out in a big clot during a period. During the time I had the IUD in I had no mood swings. However on the day I lost the IUD my husband noticed I was "edgy" - then the thing came out during the day. So I went back and have had another one put in and within 24 hours both my husband and I have noticed a difference in my moods, however I had a very heavy period since insertion and I'm discharging fluid again so I think my body is beginning to reject it again. I'll know next month. I do get very bloated two weeks before a period. I can't say that I've put on weight but am having problems with fluid retention but that could be a number of things including the Betaferon I take for multiple sclerosis. Personally I think the device is worth a go - I won't have another one put in if I reject this second one because quite obviously my body is sending me a message that it doesn't want it in there. I'm not at risk of getting pregnant, I just have such painful and heavy periods that I get very distressed because I can't find a pad big enough to contain the flow. If you are considering having one put in, please give it a go - you can always have it out. |

Hi there
Your message has given me peace of mind in as much as that I am not suffering alone (!) and also because like you, I am experiencing weight gain and awful bloating. I feel like a telly tubby! No matter how much I watch what I eat, it makes no difference. Did you lose anything after monitoring your diet? Do you think it's definately to do with the mirena? I too have very sore breasts, like symptoms of early pregnancy. OMG! Thank God that's an impossibility....(I'm 42) would love to hear your progress. The only other thing I can put the weight gain down to is lack of exercise ..............! Mel |

Never, never, NEVER take any medications before surgery unless 1.) you take them regulary or 2.) you have been instructed to do so. If you want to do this, but cannot tolorate the pain then have your doctor do a local or knock you out for the proceedure.
If you take meds before a surgery and your doctor does not know, you greatly increase the risk of things going wrong and this includes losing your life.
Think I am being over dramatic? Here are the meds I take on a daily basis:
Cogentin
Seroquel
Wellbutrin
Provigil
Topamax
Flovent
Nasacort
Vicodin
Depo Provera
The effects meds have on a person, including side effects, almost always become amplified if another med has the same or similar effects, again side effects included. That is the reason why a doctor is supposed to ask you what, if anything, you take BEFORE they treat you. They do this because often your doctor will need to adjust a dose of a new prescreption or prescribe a different medication all together. Your doctor will prepare for your operation based on what is known. This includes what to do to save your life if something goes wrong. If you take something and don't tell then you run the risk of adverse reactions; either from an initial reaction or because the mystery med your doctor doesn't know about reacts with whatever they try to revieve you with.
Showing up for your surgery and saying "By the way..." may actually cause you to have to reschedule all together. Work out a plan with your doctor if pain is an issue during or after surgery.
Now my question. I want off those meds I listed if possible. I had an ablation, but I am young with a really small uterus so it didn't really work. They put me on depo, but that isn't working. I opted have my uterus removed and was wondering if anyone had any info on that proceedure and its aftermath. |

Hello all,
I guess no one has mentioned any thing like my experience. I tired to get Mirena inserted but my Doc was not able to do it. Enormous pain and discomfort for nothing. Apparently my cervix is longer than normal so although I did dialate as required but still my doc could not place Mirena. I am not sure If I want to go through that pain again. Any advice??? |

| The removal is a lot less painful than having it put in- It is supposed to settle down and get back to normality pretty much straight away cycle wise- I personally think this depends on how long you have had it in and how quickly your body gets back to normal- best of luck with it all Becks |

It is not mandatory to get a period to remain healthy!!!!! and keep the weight under check!!!!! Getting your period or not has nothing to do with your weight! let alone remaining healthy!
Go and see your doctor and get the facts right, i have never heard such misleading rubbish.
The health benefits of the Mirena may be suitable for women approaching menopause as it provides effective contraception and can continue to be used as the progestogen component of hormone replacement therapy.. |

| I had the Mirina put in about 9mnths ago after the birth of my second child as I am unable to take the pill. I hated the first three months with the constant spotting, period like pains and constant bloating. That has since settled down but I have also had two really bad bouts of mood swings, almost to the point I thought I was crazy. Now 9 mnths on everything has settled down, no periods whatsoever, and only the normal PMT when cycle 'meant' to be taking place. Personally I dont like the Marina at all, just the idea of a foreign object in your body and the extra Proestrogen it expels (albeit very minimal). Looking forward to having it removed once we decided on no more children and hubby gets the snip. |

| Hi I am 40 years old lady. I had put Marina coil a year ago. Ever since i got it inserted, i am not having my perids. I get little spotting sometimes. I have been putting on weight (though not much just a kg and half only) but this is despite of my workouts, my yoga,my slimming treatment. Nothing seem to work. I have beocme pale too. I am more worrie about not getting my monthly periods. All this is making me nervous. It is mandatory for women to have periods to remain healthy and keep the weight under check. Am i reaching mannopuase so soon because of this coil ? should i get it removed. I feel sleepy too most times. Though no change in my sex drive. Kindly advise if i shoul continue with this coil or get it removed? if i get it removed ,m the what is the other alternative ? surgery (tube tie) or anything else ? |

i had endoetriosis lasered 4 years ago and have a 3yr old and a one and a half year old. i got the coil about a year ago and have had no bleeding, but recently had breast tenderness and my stomach is huge. just makes me think what is happening to all the blood that is usually passed in a period. is this causing all the bloating. is this safe ?
_________________________ _________________________ _____
The coil stops the uterus from lining in preparation for an implantation (fertilisation) so if the wall of the uterus does not line you cannot get a period! because there is nothing to come away.... so there is no blood swimming around in your pelvis causing the bloating!
It is very safe! |

Its pretty obvious the Mirena is not for everyone...fortunately for me it is!
I have had the Mirena inserted twice, i am in my seventh year of having mine, and it has been the best thing since having heavy periods for years, i now only spot, no weight gain or tummy swelling, no mood swings!! |
