Hi,Yes Headlice is a real pain in the well u know were!
The best thing i found that worked, was to wash my childrens hair every 3-4 days, and after it was washed i would have a spray bottle with vingear in it, and spray their hair, yes they did stink of vingear but it worked! Also washing there bedding and brushes often.
If all else fails shave there head and tell their friends, and the school,Hopefully that works it did for me, as my children told everyone "Go away if u have Knits". Nothin like sayings outa the mouths of babes! |

Hi Everyone.
When my daughter first got lice about a year ago, I tried everything to get rid of them. But nothing worked...
I came apon this company called BugBusters- Headlice Removal. They were fantastic! They came to my home and removed all the lice and eggs from my daughters hair, and all their products were all organic and based on aroma therapy.
They also do School checks and information sessions and donate a percentage back into the school.
I purchased the prevention spray and a prevention scrunchie and touch wood my daughter hasn't had headlice since.
So give them a try, Call 1300 657 594 or check out their web site www.bugbusters.net.au |

My mum actually taught me a trick with headlice. Before you wash the hair, rinse it with white vinegar. Then use a headlice treatment. Leave it on for at least 30 minutes before rinsing out. Put conditioner thru the hair and comb it out with a fine tooth comb. Remember to section the hair so that you get all the hair combed properly.
Wash all bedding in warm water with a little bit of the headlice treatment in the wash. Hang pillows out on the line in direct sunlight all day if possible. Comb hair with a fine tooth comb every 2 - 3 days, you can use the conditioner treatment again to make it easier.
Daily treatment. Mix up a bottle of 1 part tea tree oil to 3 parts water. Spray it on the hair daily and brush thru. This can be used everyday. I have been using this for the last 3 years and only ever had headlice once with the kids. We recommend it at the school. Keep long hair tied back when possible.
Don't forget to treat all brushes and combs too. Headlice solution in hot water and soak for a couple of hours. |

| I was a teacher here in the US and had sisters with lice so bad you would see them walk down their necks daily. I ended up with them and I learned that you have to treat the whole house, hair brushes, any hair accessories, and bag up any stuffed animals for over a couple of weeks. I would come home and take a shower so hot it was practically scalding and then blow dry my hair, making sure to get it very hot to kill any lice that may get in there during the day. I also used shampoo with tea tree oil in it which acts as a repellant. I only had the lice once and found eggs twice but there were no live bugs and I assume this is because when I had seen the girls in the morning and gotten a bug from them the bug had time to lay an egg or two before I got home for the shower and blowdryer to kill the bug. Good luck and stay on top of the problem and it will get under control. |

Hi, There is a business in Australia called BugBusters - headlice removal service. They do Head lice checks in schools, have great products for you to use and also come and treat the child if you prefer. They sometimes also donate 5% of your spend back to your school.

| My 3 year old and 5 year old foster childern are always coming back with head lice and I use tea tree oil. It really works. But the problem that I'm having is if you leave it on too long then it leaves burn marks. So be very careful. It truly is powerful stuff. |

Hi all, we use kerosene dilute with water 50-50 it does sometimes sting a bit but rinsing it through the hair then washing the hair after toweling your hair watch the head lice fall out dead we have used it for a few years now and it does help combat the lice as my girls are frequently coming home with them.
but find more in the heat humid weather here in queensland |

| The best results we've ever had was from a product called "Lice Buster" ... it's a mousse, available from pharmacies, about $12.00 or so. |

Head lice are a royal pain in the BLEEP!!! My Autistic son TRIES to get them so he can have "pets" and goes ballistic when I have to kill them. Fun.
All of the advice here is good. The Wild Child Quit Nits defence spray brushed through the hair in the morning is terrific, and it's all natural. I hate using the chemical stuff as we ( the kids and me) react to everything and they don't even seem to work very well.
As a single parent it is REALLY difficult to de-nit myself, but there is nowhere adults can go for treatment of this, so it's probably us infecting the kids, they just spread it faster!! I also have psoriasis so I'm always itchy anyway and don't realise it if I am infected. Any hairdressers out there, PLEASE have de-licing/niting salons!!! It's the only way to get on top of this!! |

We have had a real nightmare that began with head lice. Turns out the treatment was far worse than the lice itself. We used a prescription from the dr called Ovide - its a 5% malathion solution. I applied to my husband, children and myself. I began having flu like symptoms. It escalated to convulsions, chest pain, tight throat and shortness of breath. My husband called an ambulance which took me to the emergency room. They gave me anti-seizure drugs and meds to open my lungs. I was diagnosed with acute organic phosphate poisoning (malathion poisoning).
In addition to becoming toxic, the Ovide did not kill the lice! I continued to have convulsions multiple times a day for several months. I had to have help come in and take care of my children.
The reason I share our story is to warn you. I sincerely hope this helps you make more informed choices about head lice treatments.
Thanks |

| I always use the conditioner, but we haven't had it since I started using a prevenative sp? All you do is place 5 drops of lavender oil, 5 drops of tea tree oil and 10 drops of eucalyptus oil in a spray bottle full of water, spray the hair everyday before school. Make sure they are essential oils (they can be expensive) the cheap water soluble ones don't work. I have used this now for 2 years and have not had 1 outbreak, where we had it endlessly before. |

Use KP 24 but don't just do it once, do it twice. When you use it, put a shower cap over the top and leave it on a little longer than it says. The heat from the cap helps to kill them. Make sure you've treated EVERYONE in the house (not just yr daughter).
After treating it with the KP24, every second night before her bath, smother her hair in conditioner then use a fine tooth comb to comb her hair. With each comb through that you do, wipe the conditioner from the comb onto a tissue in order to see if there's anything still in her hair.
If you're having problems getting the eggs out - a hairdresser told me that you put baby oil on the hair and it will help the egg slide off the hair shaft more easily.
I've also heard of kids who are allergic to them and you may, in the end, have to take her to the dr's if you can't break the cycle. |

The most affective form of lice treatment on the market is K.P.24.
To reduce reinfection, wash all her bedding and school uniform including school cap and all hair brushes etc in the K.P.24 solution. There's one for hair and one for soaking of fabrics.
Spray your lounge suite and her bedroom, then close door for afew hours.
After 7 days, use hair solution again. Thereafter, tell your daughter to use plenty of hair conditioner from here on in. I would also notify the school, there's a chance other students may also be infected. |

| If you've tried nearly everything maybe you are getting rid of the head lice. Just that once you clear the head lice away, someone at her school might reinfect her so it looks like it's still there. It might be worth finding out who her friends are at school and if you know there parents ask them to check for head lice. Good luck |

| Get something like N A D s (why cant I type that word?) from the chemist, you need the shampoo first, then the combing solution solution and a fine nit comb. Treat the hair once and then you MUST treat it again a few days later to get any eggs that may have hatched (it tells you when on the bottle). It is best to do the whole families hair at the same time, and wash all bed linen and towells, and especially hats. Once you have gotten rid of them all you need to use a preventative spray daily. I use Wild Child, it is available from some Chemists, but also in Coles. You just spray it on after the hair is done before they go to school and it prevents the lice from getting into the hair again. I have used this on my kids after they had one attack of lice and they have never had it again. It is great and it doesnt smell like some of the horrible chemical ones do, so the kids dont mind using it. |

| Hi. I use conditioner, rub in in, then come out with nit comb. The conditioner gets onto the lice and stuns them for 15 or so minutes. We do this every week, in case any lice hatch, and I find its good to do even if we don't have them because it reassures me that we haven't got any, or we are right on top of any new outbreaks. My daughter is 5 and in kindy and they seem to be rife, it is so frustrating |

We have recently tried stuff called 'ecil' and its great. Its a home buisness which our friends run and it works brilliently. its all natural, no chemicals and you can use it like normal shampoo and conditioner everyday untill they're gone.
You get a 250ml bottle of shampoo and 250 ml of conditioner, but i cant remember off the top of my head how much, its around $25 though.
There buisness number is 0439110659.
You can call it if you're interested :) |
