Trish, here is a link to one of the patterns. The program gratefully receives any items you can make, try searching for free patterns on the net, there are heaps.

Or if you would prefer I can scan and email you the booklet.

Hello, I too live quite a way from a Guardian Chemist - even rang to see if they would post knitting patterns but no they don't - I guess the cost of postage... Did you know how to get patterns on line???
appreciate any help you can give.

The message this year (as was last year) seems to be jumpers etc for older children (2 - 10 years), although babyrugs and crochet balls are included in the book.

Re:SUNRISE - Knitting with Guardian Ange ... Reply to this message
Over the years a variety of patterns has been printed in the various Guardian Angel booklets. As far as I am aware, all items are accepted, whether they are this year's patterns, patterns previously printed, or one that you like to knit. Personally I found that some of the patterns in the past were too flimsy and delicate to do a decent job of warming a child, and so my group and I tend to knit jumpers that are roll-neck (or close to) and that tend to be solid rather than full of beautiful design holes. Perhaps I am being too practical here. We knit matching beanies and sometimes scarves to go with each jumper.

Hi everyone,
Just wondering do we have to knit from the pattern book?? I have some simple little jumpers, about Size 2 that I'd like to donate somewhere (I knitted them for practise when I was learning to knit)but they are fine, so can I donate them. They are also only knitted in Acrylic wool. Could they be used, do you think??

It's already July so this is a little late...I just saw Mel's article in one of the women's mags this week. I have been knitting for Guardian for the last two years, but only just got around to it this year as my youngest is 7 months and keeps me busy :o). However I have a cardigan and blanket that I didn't finish last year so working on those now. I always use 100% wool because what's a few extra dollars to me when those poor children are cold. Having a toddler and a baby it breaks my heart to think of children who may be lonely or cold. I also intend to donate to world vision for postage costs. Anyway one question: I was wondering what garments are needed most?

Hi all, I am knitting the Classic Texture Jumper, I purchased the wool from ebay for $19.95 9 balls of pure wool, I recommend Ebay for good quality wool that doesn't cost a fortune. Just click onto the ebay site, type in Cleckheaton Country into the search field, and it should bring up a list of wool to choose from. Also they seem to be having problems with the website re downloading all the patterns, I hope they fix this soon. I also note that we are able to post our items to the pharmacy's now as well. Happy knitting everyone.

Re:SUNRISE - Knitting with Guardian Ange ... Reply to this message
I started knitting for the program 2 years ago. I don't get much time to knit but so far I've completed a few scarves and beanies, the big 9x9 blanket and am currently attempting the tunic from the 2006 booklet.

I saw the segment on Friday, and I was a little disappointed, I guess you could say. Mel showed 2 institutions. One with broken windows, no heating, looked really cold, and another that was helped through world vision a few years ago and the beds looked nice and warm, colourful, a more happy place (if it possibly could be). Then Mel started distributing woollen items to the children in the second institution. I would prefer them to go to the cold institution where they were so much more desperately needed.

Are there only certain homes where the garments will go, or will they be equally spread throughout the region?

Thanks Lynne, I appreciate your feedback. I'm hoping more patterns will go online as my nearest guardian chemist is 100km round trip away. the local chemist used to be a guardian one but for some reason they stopped after last year's collection of jumpers etc.

Good luck everyone, happy knitting!

Hi Mel,
I am also requesting the patterns to be downloadable from the computer as we don't have a Guardian Chemist in our area. I have a huge circle of knitting friends and are eager to start.

Re:SUNRISE - Knitting with Guardian Ange ... Reply to this message
Hi Mel,
is it possible to make the patterns downloadable from the computer - all I can get is a beanie and scarf pattern and would really like to make something that covers more - also, are squares required to be sewn together for more blankets and if so do you know the measurements?
I did try emailing the G.A pharmacy in Castle Hill (my nearest), but have had no reply.
Thanks for your help - this is a lovely thing you're doing, I cried when I watched the stoy about those poor children.

Hi Everyone

I really want to contribute to this great cause however I am trying to find a Guardian Pharmacy and there isn't one anywhere close to me and with the price of petrol I cannot drive an hour return trip to drop of my items. Is there anywhere else I can drop off my items or even post them to?

Hi there!
If you go to the sunrise site on yahoo and click on the knitting story it will take you to where you can download patterns. Also I think from memory you can also just go to the guardian chemist site as well. I am actually using patterns from last year as am a basic knitter and was not fussed on this years for me to knit anyway. I hope tis helps.
Regards
Lynne

Re:SUNRISE - Knitting with Guardian Ange ... Reply to this message
Hi Everyone,
I can't get to my nearest Guardian Pharmacy for a while, it is about 50km away and I work full-time and have a young child on my own so time is short during business hours. Is anyone able to email me a copy or tell me if it is published online, please? I've knitted jumpers for Guardian before but the place I got the pattern from is no longer a guardian chemist. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
Warm Regards
Anne

I do know where Armenia is,my husband is Armenian. I can't knit but I can sew. Could I make some polar fleece jackets with hoods? They are warm & keep out the wind. Alternatively, if I bought some wool could I send it in for others to knit up? Jean marashlian

Hi johnsongail55,

I just finished a scarf (my very first knitting product) using my own patt, k2 p2 all the way.
I am trying to follow the patt in the booklet but not sure how. Could you please help me a bit on that?

Thank.

Re:SUNRISE - Knitting with Guardian Ange ... Reply to this message
To Mel. My next door neighbour & I are busy knitting items for world vision. Last year when we first met she came to my house to find out if I could knit (I love to knit)& if I had a spare set of knitting needles ( which I did). A friendship has been formed, I have assisted her when she has had a problem as she is only just learning. Last year we did scarfs & beanies, this year she has become confident enough to attempt a jumper (her very first attempt at doing this)with some guidance. Helping others in need can also form friendships.

To Mel,

I haven't got time to knit lots of things this year will this be on again as i will start to use up my odd balls of wall and stash them away for the next one. I am 26 weeks pregnant and working part-time, studying a business admin course and trying to keep things in order around the house so i dont think i'll have time to knit anything this time but i do want to do it in the future. Please let me no by emailing me at steggs11@yahoo.com.au.

Thanks
Janifer

Re:SUNRISE - Knitting with Guardian Ange ... Reply to this message
Hi Georgie, Well I have started with odd balls that have been hanging around in the cupboards, and have knitted some beanies. I noticed that a wool blend is acceptable so out comes my odd ball wool blend stash. I think I'll stick with knitting beanies at the moment as they are quick and I can almost do them in my sleep. I knit them in the round so there are no seams to sew up when I'm finished. I'm flipping thru my huge pile of books and have found some mittens and fingerless gloves, so that will be my next venture, for mittens it says 1 ball for toddlers. I have scoured the internet for quick ideas on knitting patterns for charity and was amazed at the number of people who create wonders for others. Happy knitting Sue
