Hey :D
Im Paige, and im about to turn 18. I used to be what people call Emo... or Gothic. I used to also like your daughter... cut my arms. I didn't do it to kill myself, i did it i guess to block out the mental pain with the physical pain i felt. I no longer do this and im a much happier person now. My father caught me doing it and that was the first time i ever saw him cry. :(
Honestly Mame, your daughter might be depressed. If she has alot of negative thoughts or maybe even self-esteem problems, it might be best for her to see a counselor. I went to a Family Counselor, not a shrink or a psych. Medicine unless in extreme cases usually doesn't help. But having someone not affiliated with your school or family to talk to really helped me. Now i talk to my parents about everything. I hope you take my advice :D and i hope your daughter gets better

I used to self-harm as well. As a teenager she probably won't want to talk to you but be persistant. Try getting her in a neutral place, not her room (her territory)and try to be non-confrontational. If she won't talk to you, ask her to write whatever she is feeling down, no matter how bad, and that you will read it. Hope this helps.

My teenager is cutting herself on her arms - I only discovered today and I am at a loss as to what to do. She's unaware I saw the wounds. She's become very moody recently and no longer chats to me or her dad about day to day stuff like she used to. Can anyone advise me how best to support her? Should I tell the school? I've made a doctor's appointment for us both for tomorrow. But I'm worried sick. Please help.
