Re:Organ donation Reply to this message
i have always been a supporter of organ donation. it wasnt until my partner passed away suddenly earlier this year that i realised how hard it was to actually give that permission. in my daze the hardest thing i remember was getting a call from the organ register saying he had put his name down to express his wishes. at first i couldnt bear to think about giving away any part of him, but i realise now how much of a gift it is that he has given to someone else. really he has no use for those parts where he is now, however his legacy can continue and he has been able to give someone another chance - which is what he wanted. he now lives on through several people which he has either saved, or given a better quality of life. and that gives me more comfort that he died for a reason

Re:Organ donation Reply to this message
If any of my organs are in good nick, and a match and can be salvaged, I would be more than pleased to hand them over to inprove the quality of anothers life or save anothers life.
I've told my family this too.

I think our own beliefs and acceptance about death go a long way towards the acceptance of the concept of organ donation.

For some families or loved ones who cannot accept that their loved ones have gone, the idea of organ donation would be appaling and they simply would not be able to condone it.

I don't think there is enough discussion in the broader community about organ donation or the importance of talking about that option with your family members. There's a great piece on The Punch today about somone's very personal experience of the process and is definitley worth a read:
