You'd be surprised at how resilient kids of that age are. I went into labour just before 3am, didn't have time to call our friends who were going to watch our 2yo (she was turning 3 the week after). I gave birth (in the car) 16mins after the first contraction, we'd only been driving for 1-2 mins, our daughter was in the back saying "it's okay mama, it's alright." as calm as anything, trying to comfort me. Just make sure that if they do have to be there with you, make sure they can't see anything too graphic, as this may scare them.

i would get in touch with your community clinic or a local church and see if there is some kind of help they can offer. Don't stress these things usually work themselves out. You watch, someone will more than likely offer you assistance :) I have a 4 1/2yr old a 3 yr old and 3 1/2 month old...Goodluck with the delivery, hope it all works out xx

No one to watch kids during birth.... Reply to this message
I have a soon to be 3 year old and and a 4 year old, both of whom are excited about our upcoming addition to the family. The baby is due at the end of December or early January. My husband and I have both lost our parents and have no family and have recently moved, so we don't really know anyone. I have started to worry recently about what we'll do with the kids when I go into labor. I'm not sure it would be appropriate to bring them into the birthing room, since they're so young. Yet, if I go into labor unexpectedly at - say, 2 a.m., I'll have to bring them with me, unless I can think of something else. We live in a rural area, so not a lot of neighbors around either. Anyone have any ideas/suggestions/comment s?
