Hi there praying,
Well I am quietly confident that I am pregnant. For starters I know my exact ovulation date due to it being an induced ovulation, and I am now late, plus the test I did on Sunday morning had a very very faint positive line. And I know from past research that any line is positive. Plus from all the tests I have done over the last 2 years where there is zippo in a line, I am certain it is positive.
I will get a blood test tomorrow which will confirm it. I have all the similar early pregnancy symtoms I had last time. SO fingers cross when they call me tomorrow with the results i will get the news I am expecting....thanks for your thoughts.
Then as soon as I officially find out I will be in the same boat as you Praying....all just a waiting game.
Take care...will let you knwo on my results tomorrow

Hi Praying,
Everything you have described is normal... i didn't really get morning sickness in any of my pregnancies but i did feel nausious and on an occassion vomitt.. you will find that certain foods can exagerate the symptoms and it does come and go at odd hours not just mornings. Some people feel sick and are sick the entire first trimester so you are lucky :) The only major change i experienced was the period like cramps and an increase in Discharge. I generally didn't feel pregnant and i know that can make someone very nervous. I'll keep praying for you and hope the next two weeks goes by fast. All the best xx |

Hi Iprotos,
Thanks for all of your support, it is really encouraging to talk to somebody who has been through all of this!
I will try not to panic about the progesterone. I hope that in the meantime my over the counter cream is helping, even just a little, any increase would be great! I have less than 2 weeks to go to see my doctor so I am praying little miracle can hang on until then!
I do have a question about morning sickness. I haven't been feeling nauseated or anything lately, and no real pregnancy symptoms like I said earlier except the cramps, however, last night I woke up around 1 am feeling really sick to my stomach and ran for the bathroom and threw up everything in my stomach! It was awful! I felt better right after and had a couple crackers and water and went back to bed. When I woke up in the morning I felt just fine, and I have felt fine all day today. My question is, do you think this is morning sickness? Also, can morning sickness come and go...like can you have it one day, not have it for a few days, and then it comes back again? I wasn't sure if it was something you get and it sticks for weeks/months/however long, or if it is something that can spuratically happen.
Sorry so many questions, I am just new at all of this, and quite worried and nervous since my last miscarriage and all! Thanks again for all your help!
Midijola- I was thinking of you today. Hope all is well with you and that you have some good news :) :)

Hello Praying,
When i got the Positive at home i called the Doc and he asked me to go immediately to him and he prescribed me with Progesterone. Don't panic though as i said i have had two other pregnancies with no supplements.
Its quiet normal to get period like cramps on and off for the first 12weeks as long as they are not acompanied with blood, i found i got the cramps usually when my periods were due.
My personal advice would be to try and refrain from sex/orgasm for the first 3mnths they do suggest that high risks pregnancies or multiple miscarriages could be at risk with sex in the first trimester.
Well i hope your doing well and look forward to hearing all about your 20wk scan...that will come so quick! GL xx |

Hey Iprotus and Midijola!
Iprotus- How far along were you when your doctor put you on progesterone? I have recently moved to a new area and do not have a GP here, and the soonest my OBGYN can see me is 7w3d (Feb 7). In the meantime I am using an over the counter natural progesterone cream 3 times a day. I'm not sure how effective these are, but I figure it is worth a try. Do you know anything about these or if there is a certain time progesterone must be prescribed by a doctor before it is too late? I'm worried 7 weeks will be too late. Thanks for your encouragement, and congrats on your successful pregnancies!
Midijola- Good luck on your test tomorrow! You will be in my thoughts and prayers! You'll have to let me know the results, best wishes to you!
The regular cramps that I had for a week are now gone. I can't figure out if this is good or bad. Good maybe because my uterus was stretching for the baby and the job is done for now, bad maybe because I wonder if anything is even going on down there anymore? I'm patiently waiting to see if any more symptoms come. I have had sore breasts only in the morning when first getting out of bed, but they go away quickly, is this normal? Also, one more question, I am almost embarassed to ask, but I have heard conflicting opinions. Is it safe to orgasm during early pregnancy? I have heard that if you are at risk of miscarriage you should refrain from orgasm. I had one this morning (sorry TMI!!), and now I am worried I may have done harm. Do either of you know anything about this? Thanks for all your help and comfort ladies, and Midijola- good luck on your test tomorrow!!

Hi iprotus,
I actually quoted what you had said earlier to Praying as I thought what you had said was very informative as I didnt know prior to reading about the progesterone that it can be prescribed. Thanks for that as it is very useful. Sometime we just dont know what options are available unless we are told.
Praying I am going to do a test on Sunday. I am already booked in for a blood test for next Wed as that is a part of my tracking. I too have been having period like cramps since the middle of last week...prob about 4 days after possible conception. That is early for me to get period pain, almost 2 weeks before I am due. I am hopeful but still keeping check with reality.
With you still getting regular cramps that to me means that something is going on down there. I know I didnt start getting morning sickness etc..until around the 6/7 wk mark.Just try not to stress, you are doing all you can so it is out of your hands.
Just remember that our Heavenly Father loves us and knows what is best for us. Thanks for your thoughts...just counting down the days. I now I could probably buy a test that I could use earlier but that is the day I have decided on so I will keep to that. I guess I am trying to put off any possible dissappointment...take care

Congratulations for your Positive. Hope all is going well for you. I posted months earlier that i was put on Progesterone tablets for the first three months to maintain pregnancy..i was going through my Obyn at the time. i am sure that you could go to your Gp where he can do regular blood work and check your HcG levels and determine if your pregnancy will require the Progesterone. On the other hand i have had two other pregnancies since, where i have not taken anything to maintain a healthy pregnancy and with the help of God all has gone well.
Goodluck and God Bless your family and little miracle :) |

Hi midijola,
I have also heard that women with PCOS who take metformin through their first trimester have a lower chance of miscarrying, so I am doing this as well, anything to help!
I understand what you are saying about the progesterone. I will just continue using my natural cream. I have tried every angle and am unsuccessful so I will just use the cream and pray until my appointment. I tried calling my doctor and they moved my appointment up to Feb. 7 instead of the 21st so that is helpful, but as far as trying to get progesterone I talked to various nurses, doctors, pharmacists, and most of them were reluctant to give me any sort of advice until I am seen at my appointment, so I will anxiously await Feb. 7, but maybe the cream and metformin will be enough?!
Unfortunately I really don't have any symptoms of pregnancy except for constand period like cramping for the past 4 days. It has really worried me, but everybody seems to say that as long as it isn't debilitating or accompanied by blood I am ok, what do you think? I haven't had sore breasts or morning sickness, which worries me a lot, but maybe since I am only 4 1/2 weeks it will come? I'm trying not to worry so much but it's so hard being all I know is miscarriage!
So how are YOU doing? Have you reached the point where you can test to see if you coneceived this month? Let me know how everything is going for you and keep me informed! Baby dust to you this month, and all the ones to follow, and I will keep you in my prayers!

Hi Praying,
I only took metformin through and finished after my 1st trimester. Not sure if I was told to stop or what i cant remember it was 6 years ago now.
But with the natural progesterone creams I think in my opinion with any natural remedy, its not effective if you have a lot of unnatural things that you may consume. I think like caffeine, aspartame...etc. If you keep your body relatively pure of 'unnatural' things, they can become more effective...I hope I am making a bit of sense.
Take for example a heavy coffee drinker, they have a lot of caffeine so a natural alternative stimulant like guarana would have not have much affect? But like I said I used to sell a natural progesterone cream and many said they had had success particularly with PMT. So for some it was effective.
Just when you use it rub it into soft body parts...like inner forearms, buttocks and breasts....and if your anything like me, my legs, my tummy, my upper arms...the list is endless LOL
But in response to having faith I am a regular church goer and I too believe in our Heavenly Father and His son Jesus Christ. And I know that Gods will, will be done.
But lastly in response to you wanting progesterone...go into a chemist and ask to speak with a pharmacist. He will know more about natural creams opposed to prescription and may be able to give you advice.
I know with my pregnancy everyday I was grateful for the morning sickness and all the other daily symptoms we endure, because when you feel it all you know the baby is healthy because the hormones are making you feel ill. So each day consciously look for those symptoms and that will bring ease to your mind each day...good luck...keep me posted

(continued from last post)
as every month before, but we just have to have faith. The fact that you successfully had a daughter means something right?!? I don't know if you believe in God or not, but I really do and I am putting faith in him that he will see me through this pregnancy, and I will pray for you as well if you don't mind!
Keep me updated, good luck this month, and baby dust to all! |

Hey midijola,
Thanks so much for your response! Sometimes just talking with and hearing from others is so comforting. It's nice to know that I'm not the only one going through these things even though sometimes it feels that way.
Have you heard anything about over the counter progesterone creams? I know I have read through posts from other people and through research that progesterone suppositories prescribed by the doctor are the most effective. I have heard varying things that over the counter creams like the one I have (natural woman natural progesterone cream from GNC) are ineffective, then some say they are effective. I know prescription suppositories would obviously be better (some sources say they contain up to 100 times the amount of progesterone as over the counter creams), but I don't have access to those right now. Do you think I should call and demand to be seen earlier? I hate to be so pushy, but this is the life of my baby, and I'm not willing to lose another one, I don't think I could mentally or emotionally survive another miscarriage. I have heard that if the suppositories aren't started within 4-6 weeks of pregnancy, that it is too late and they don't do any good after this point. I also forgot to mention I am taking metformin 500 mg twice a day, so maybe that will help too? When you got pregnant with your daughter and pulled through ok, were you taking anything to assist you besides prenatal vitamins? Any creams, suppositories, or medicine?
Sorry for going on about myself, it just feels so good to finally have someone to talk to about this stuff!! :)
Keep your faith about conceiving this month. I know exactly how you feel. After trying for over a year I came to expect a negative test every month, but finally a positive came and I still can't believe it is real. I know how you feel about the miscarrying thing too. I feel the same way. I have never carried a baby to full term and I feel like this time will be the same as |

Hi praying for a miracle,
Congrats on your exciting news!!I think you are doing all the right things. When first reading your post I thought progesterone cream and you are already doing that. With my daughter I was just fortunate that she pulled through the first trimester. I have heard very good things about natural progesterone. It may be enough, as its more than what you would have in your body already.
I used to sell Jurlique and they have a product 'wild yam cream' which was a naturla progesterone and eveyone that bought it swore by it!!!
I know that having PCOS puts us at high risk for miscarriage. I have another week till I find out if I conceived this month. I dont have a good feeling about it, not just 'actually' being pregnant but cos we have been trying for so long that knowing my luck I will miscarry
I have heard of others being put on progesterone...this is pasted from a post earlier on this thread from iprotos:
"...My Doc put me on Progesterone for three mnths to avoid miscarriage as PCOS sufferers have a higher risk because of the hormonal issues..."
Read further down, she doesnt say much else but there is ways to get around it...maybe go see your GP, he/she may or may not prescribe for you....unfortunately the only other thing I can say is just try not to think about it too much...atleast dont let it consume you so it doesnt put more stress on you....Good luck, keep us updated!!

| Hi! I just read your message and I just wanted to ask you a question/get some advice. I had a "missed miscarriage" a year ago. Shortly after I found out I had PCOS. My husband and I have been trying for 13 months and just got a positive test a couple of days ago. I am very worried about my progesterone levels because I know I don't make a lot on my own (I didn't have my period for 6 months due to this and was put on provera), and it MIGHT be the reason for my last miscarriage. I am unsure of what to do because I would absolutely hate to lose another baby due to low progesterone. My doctor won't see me for another month, but I want to do all I can in the meantime not to lose the baby. I bought some over the counter natural progesterone cream and am taking this twice daily. I just wanted to know, did you do anything special during your pregnancies with PCOS to help prevent a miscarriage? Is there any advice you have to help prevent a miscarriage? Sorry I'm just a very worried mommy who wants to carry her miracle to full term!! |

| Hi there, just wanted to give you a bit of good news. I too have pcos and have since i was 18 (now 23) i had trouble getting diognosed as the doctors thought there was nothing wrong. When my partner and me decided to try for a baby unsuccessfully for 2 years i then found out i had pcos. They gave me hormone tablets called clomifine (not sure on spelling) and i conceived within about 8 weeks and had a healthy baby girl weighing 7lb 14 oz. So it is possible with a little help good diet and exercise. Hope this brings bit more joy. |

Hi Cornell,
I am sorry to hear about your miscarriages. What a traumatic time for you. I cant even imagine what it would have been like for you. I have been blessed with only one pregnancy that was successful using clomid. She is now 4. But having PCOS made the risk of miscarriage very high. I am now going thru fetility treatment again and had a scan this morning. It looks like I will ovulate in the next 24 hrs.
Altho going through specialists both times with my first child and now, I have never been on extra medication besides metformin. I am curious about the progesterone that iportus mentioned.
Cornell, what kind of doctor were you seeing before when you were taking clomid...an endicrinologist(hormone doctor), your GP or your OB? I am just curious as when i purchased my initial clomid the pharmacist asked me who prescribed it. Cos it has to be so closely monitored. The pharmacist would not give it to me if it was from a GP. I think going to a specialist will work in your best interest...good luck!!

| Hi, I wish my doc had the sense to put me on this as I have had 2 miscarraiges in 1 year. despite knowing I have PCOS he didn't prescribe any medication while I was taking clomid, so I got pregnant and miscarried at 6 weeks both times..I will be 38 next Feb and will try again but this time am going to a specialist in Monash, melbourne, hopefully he will monitor me and give me some medication |

Hi all,
I was diagnosed with PCOS about five years ago after i was trying for about 18mnths to get pregnant, i went on clomid and managed to fall pregnant whilst on my last cycle, we had already started the process for IVF. My Doc put me on Progesterone for three mnths to avoid miscarriage as PCOS sufferers have a higher risk because of the hormonal issues. Since then i had another child which was a complete surprise and currently i am seven weeks pregnant with my third. i did Tony Ferguson Diet for two months prior as its low GI, i think this helped. I did gain a lot of weight in my pregnancies and had to work hard to get it off but it was all worth it... i thank God for my children everyday.. goodluck to all and God Bless. |

Hi
I have PCOS aswell and gained weight really quickly.
I do understand what you mean with the Metformin making you feel sick, it happens to me aswell, although I feel that I only feel ill when I eat things with the Metformin that is not in accordance with my GI diet - which really is a fantastic healthy diet.
But eating chocaltes and "naughty" things if you like, always make me feel sick then with the Metformin.
I was diagnosed with PCOS about 4 years ago, I went from a size 10 to a size 18 in one year - It was like being pregnant and alot of people thought I was, due to this drastic weight gain, which really made me depressed and once my periods stopped I knew something was wrong and that's when I went to the doctors and got diognosed with PCOS.
However, before I started with the Metformin, which does help somewhat, I found that the best thing that worked for me, after doing a lot of research, was to eat ORGANIC. I tell you it's the best thing I could have done.
I went back from a size 18 to a size 14 in just 3 months!
So ever since, I try to eat organic where I can.
I know it is more expensive, but I would recommend it to everyone.
Not only did it help me loose weight, but my periods started again and I found my mood-swings stopped as well.
I also know now that if I eat too much non-organic food I can feel a change immediately; the chemicals in non-organic food can effect my body so much that I won't have a period.
I know everybody is different, but why not have a go for a couple of months, I am sure it will work, and if it doesn't atleast you will be helping with the environment by eating organic.
Good Luck! |

Hi Phil!
I wish you and your wife good luck at trying to get pregnant. I'm a fellow PCOS sufferer and so far I have had great success with Clomid. I achieved two pregnancies whilst taking it. The first was on the first cycle and the second on the second cycle, however, one ended @ 11 weeks and the other @ 21. My husband and I have recently started to try for another baby and we are hoping the Clomid helps us conceive again and soon.
Once again best of luck!

My wife and I just went to a reproductive endocrynologist (sp?) here in the U.S. My wife has not started on the meds, but she's just been prescribed Synthroid and Metformin. One of the things our RE went over at our initial consult was two different issues associated with PCOS. FSH and LH levels are apparently part of the PCOS syndrome. A normal PCOS case apparenlty presents itself with LH levels exceeding FSH levels. This, in effect, prevents your ovaries from maturing and releasing an egg. (An LH spike above FSH each month is the release signal for the ovaries. When LH always exceeds FSH, the ovaries never get the signal.) If FSH levels are less than 15 and LH exceeds FSH early in your cycle, then fertility treatment is likely to be effective. (Our RE said 40% with Metform alone, something like 85-90% with Metformin and Clomid, then ever greater %s with more invasive approaches.) However, if your FSH levels exceed 15, this may be a sign of early onset menapause (sp?) and could be not easily treated with fertility therapy.
I hope this is helpful (and hope FSH levels are good for you - we'll find out my wife's results in a couple of weeks).
Good luck.
Phil |

| i also have the same issue of losing weight. it isn't easy, however, i have found a low gi diet to be effective. i was advised by my doctor to see a dietition and she has really helped explain things. also, there are lots of books and information around about living the low gi way. i think its a great way of eating as you can eat everything in moderation, the biggest problem foods are potatoes, white bread and commercial cereals. the other plus this diet has scientific merit. give it try as i've found it rather easy to stick with. my dietition has also explained that exercise is a bit part of the picture, she believes its as easy as walking and that way you don't have to restrict as much food intake. |

Hi Bransrock - Have you seen the following website: www.forwellbeingaustralia .com.au
Their programs have achieved good results for a friend of mine, who was trying to become pregnant, in fact her Doctor encouraged her to do a TLC program specifically for this reason. I believe they have also had success with PCOS also. |
