Hello I was 18 when I found out I was pregnant I was very ill and couldnt keep anything down and had bad pains in the right side. I kept having to go hospital to have drips in but evertime I came out I was very poorly again, the doc said it was just the pregnancy so told me to try eating the shakes that help put weight on, that made me worse. One night I wke up in so much pain that I was taken to hospital and the ambulance man thought I was having a misscarrage (at this stage I was really upset and 4 months pregnant) Went for scan and found I had gullstones, at 1st they didnt want to op on me then decided to when was 20 weeks. I had the op but then I internally bleed, I was so scared for my baby it was horrible. But my baby was fine and was born a day late very healthy. Now im trying to have another baby 4 yrs later, been trying for over a yr but nothing. Im feeling sick last few days and got crampy pains in my tummy. Now I know I should know if pregnant as have been once before but im wondering if I only found out I was pregnant before cos the gullstones were making me sick.

hello. my name is kelsi and iam 33 weeks pregnant. i was admitted into the hospital today and after all my tests and an ultrasound we found out that i have gallstones. my doctor looked at my ultrasound pictures and he said he wants me to wait until i have my baby girl to take them out. during your 3rd trimester my doctor said it is too risky to take them out without taking the baby as well. my ultrasound shows my baby is only about 4 pounds right now so he wants to wait the next 3 to 6 weeks becuase thats about how long i will carry her. it put me into pre term labor already but its still more safe to wait until she comes. pregnancy progresses these things. good luck.

I have only just recently had gall stones/had my gall bladder removed (surgery last month & on the tail end of my recovery period).
My partner & I were TTC mid this year following the stillbirth of our daughter at the start of this year when I got sick June & luckily for me it put me out of action because August I got diagnosed with gallstones. And it was very lucky that I wasn't pregnant as I spent the following 6 weeks with severe pain attacks (twice I had to be hospitalised) & had to have an endoscopic procedure to remove one lodged in my bile duct to boot.
I would recommend anyone in a situation like mine, to have the surgery before TTC if possible. It was explained to me by both my GP & my surgeon that a lot of doctors don't like to do the surgery during pregnancy (they place you on a diet like the very, very bland one I was on), especially in the last trimester. |

Yes, i would get the stones removed (gallbladder) before you get pregnant. 26 years ago i was pregnant for the first time... started having horrible pains in my six month... doctors thought i was having labor pains but the pain would stop as sudden as it would come on, well two weeks after i had my first child i had to have my gallbladder removed. Guess what, those gallbladder attacks felt just like labor pains ,i just didnt know it at the time. My gallbladder was so bad that i was in the hospital for two weeks....my husband would bring my son to the hospital so that we could bond... but that was 26 years ago i was only ninteen at the time....im sure that they can remove your gallbladder alot safer now....good luck.

I am 32 years of age after my son was born 6 years ago i started to have this very bad pain in the center of my stomach and no pain killer would stop it. Went a doctor and was told it was acid reflux.I am pregnant again and was getting the very same pain , went to the doctor and was admitted to hospital. I was told by a doctor that i have something called pancreatitis and this is cause by gallstones and that i have to have surgery.I am very scared about having the operation . What can i eat that would not irritate my stomach.

Gallstone is really painful especially when you're pregnant and it's scary and seems very risky if you go under surgery with a wrong surgeon. I am pregnant too and I'm so worried about this painful thing that's going on me. The only thing that I think of to try is to drink a lot of apple juices because they say that it can soften the stone so i guess it will help to lessen the pain.
I saw some procedure on how to remove the gallstone naturally on the internet and i want to try them maybe that can help us too. |

Hi, Im 31 and I'm 13 weeks pregnant and I had gallstones for 9 years, but never had an attack. 5 weeks ago i started having the worst pains EVER!! I realized it was gallstones. I just had a procedure done 2 days ago 4/8/09 that is called an (ERCP). Depending where the stone is (if it's in your bile duct) they can remove this way. It's not invasive at all. They go down your mouth while your a sleep and make a small cut to release the stones. You may need to go back later to have your gallbladder removed, but you would feel so much better after this procedure :) they suggested to remove my gallbladder I'm 16 weeks pregnant well into my 2nd trimester(less risk for the baby) If you are in your second Trimester you are able to get the surgery to have your gallbladder removed. I consulted with 3 GOOD dr.'s (obgyn, general surgen, and a GI specialist) and it was highly recommend to remove the gallbladder as the stone can go back into your bile duct again and you would have to do procdure all over again since the body heels it's self in about 6 weeks. I don't think the baby can kick your gallstones..lol...but pregnacy tends to aggervate gallstones meaning it's only likely to get worse then better. I hope this helps you! Whatever you do...do some research on the dr's you choose they are not all educated and experienced the same. Good luck :)

Hi, I have had gallstones all my life and they caused me alt of problems when I was younger but ahve been living with them ok and am now in my 30's. My husband and I are starting to try for a family and my dr told me that I need to have my gall bladder removed as it will cause me problems through my pregnancy. I only have one large gall stone which the dr thinks is the 5 I had now all stuck together as one. Would you recommend that teh surgery before pregnancy is better than waiting and seeing if I am ok through the pregnancy??

Hi there. Can't believe your situation mine is exactly the same. I was tested for cholestasis first, thank god it wasn't that. Is your liver slightly swollen when you have an examination too? My pain starts in my back around where my bra strap would sit and frequently in my front too under my breast always on my right side. Mine is like a burning sensation in my back, very painful when I've been working. I've been signed off until my due date which is the 28th Feb. Let me know how you get on.

I am on my 35 weeks now and having trouble with the pain in upper right abdomen, i had my last check up just today and my doctor advised me to have an abdomen ultrasound. I am so worried when he told me maybe i had gall stones in my gall bladder. The first time I felt this was when i was on my 24th weeks but my first OB just gave me pain relieving gel, she said maybe just muscle pain because the baby is getting bigger inside me. But the pain continued and becoming worst. I got worried. I will be doing my ultrasound now after not eating and drinking for 5 hrs, I am hoping and praying that I dont have it. I got courage from all the stories i red here. Wish me luck moms and moms to be..

I'm on my 3rd pregnancy and I found out I have gallstones with me second one. Still haven't had anything done with it as it hasn't seemed to be causing me any problems. I do know how ever that my Doc told me that it's common for women in child bearing age to get them. Mostly due to the amount of calcium we intake. Just builds up in the gallbladder. I've also been told I have acid reflux and or GERD due to the gallstones while I'm pregnant. When I'm not pregnant I get mild acid reflux once in a while. So in my case it's all hand in hand I guess.

I figured out that I had gallstones about week 24. I thought I was having horrible heartburn. But everytime I had an attack it would be worse then the last. I was at KFC in the middle of a piece of chicken, when I almost passed out in pain. I had 2 more serious attacks, both in one night. I was laying naked on the bathroom floor, in the worst pain of my life, throwing up and became covered in sweat, but I felt freezing cold. I decided to search the internet for an answer and I found out about gallstones. I told my doctor, who then ordered me an ultrasound of my abdomen. They could not get me in for a month. I decided to take matters into my own hands. I changed my diet DRASTICALLY. No red meat. No fast food. No butter. Low fat cheese. No coffee. No chocolate.
I have not had a single attack since. I am now 31 weeks, and I believe I can make it through my pregnancy. I had my ultrasound and it said I had stones, but my doctor refused to do anything until the baby is out. Before I thought I was going to die, and that there was no way I could make it to 40 weeks. I really thought I would go insane and kill myself if I had these pains every night. I really recommend googling gallbladder diets and really sticking to them. You can still eat quite a bit and not suffer. THERE IS HOPE! :) |

I'm 31 weeks and some odd days pregnant, and just recently went to the ER, for major upper abdominal pain, on the right side and also in my back.. my doctor thought i was having acid reflux, though they treated me for it and the pain was still sever.. they ran some tests and ordered a sonogram, and diagnosed me with moveable gallstones.. now i'm struggling with the fact that they wanted to take my baby only at 31 weeks, and remove my gallbladder.. i had to undergo some other tests, and found that i had an attack.. does anyone know if the attacks go away ?? and about how often do the attacks take place? The Surgeon decided that i wait 3 more weeks before they operate, and take the baby.. I'm very worried because unfortunately 34 weeks is still not FULL TERM! if anyone can help me with this with advice it would be awesome... Thanks! --_ AnDrea!

I just had my son on April 7th and he was preterm. I can believe now it is because of gallstones since I have had several attacks since then and went to the er just recently and told me I had them. I had 3 of the same attacks while I was pregnant which ended up in me in labor. I thought maybe my contractions were being onset by a problem but the dr didnt think nothing of it till I was hung over in pain for the 5th time after the baby was born and he did an ultrasound and sure nuff it was gallstones. I wouldof been able to hold my son in longer since I was already high risk if the dr had examined me better but I guess 3 911 calls isnt enough to trigger an emergency reaction to something might be wrong rather then labor. Oh well he was my 4th child and my last and hopefully they can do my surgery next week and I will be off pain meds and not cry at 4am with hurt..lol..I am 24 and never even knew about gallstones till now.

I am 24 weeks and my doctor thinks I have gallstones, but my pain is on the left side. it is so horrible, the worst pain I have ever felt. It has knocked me to my knees more than once. My OBGYN told me it was a gas bubble but with the treatment he suggested i am still in a horrible amount of pain. I sure hope that I can get it figured out.
