YOU ARE WELCOME TO MEET MY LAB...WHO HATES WATER !!!! I have two, same litter, one male, one female. The male HATES water, any size, any depth. The female...jumps in puddles like a toddler! He loves the beach...the sand that is. It's not presenting a problem re grooming, as he will tolerate it, as I am 'alpha' dog. I remember my ex trowing him in the surf as a puppy when he was relunctant to try it out, I am sure this totally stupid act worsened the situation.

I need help... My mother maltese does not want me to touch her feet or nails, she growls and try to bite us. Any help?? I'm the second owner and thinks maybe the previous owners must have hurt her.

Hi Margaret

I found a few good articles on Ehow.com that help with your pet care. A tip i know of is try and brush your Maltese terrior daily to make your pet learn be tolerant & accept that it has to be groomed. Brush small sections at a time using a wire slicker brush. Use a rubber or nylon bristled brush to avoid irritating its skin. You can also buy dog shampoo that has anti tangle treatment to ensure that the knots are untangled before trying to even brush him after a bath.

If you are interested in pets i also came across this new pets website that has just been launched, i believe they will have a pet care section soon & you can sign up to the newsletter to help deal with your pet grooming. Visit www.buymypet.com.au

Hope this helps Margaret, good luck with the grooming

Cheers

We have a *** zu Maltese X she is adorable, however, she will not let us groom her in anyway, we know she has to have the hair under her eyes cleaned, I do that with wet cotton balls she used to let us do it when she was younger, though she has never liked it.She is now 16 weeks old and bites us whenever we attempt to groom her in anyway.I am hoping you can advise me on how to control her or help her to stop biting us? I hope you can help. We are senior citz and have a limited budget to work with. Thanking you. Margaret

Re:Grooming Your dog Reply to this message
I've never met a lab in my life that doesn't loooove water. A bucket of cold water poured over you outside is not going to be enjoyed by anyone though! I use a hose attatched to the spout in the bath and dont put any water on their head until the last minute - then clear out for the shake! Dogs like warm water too! And I find it's cleaner to disinfect the bath than watch the puddle outside for 2 days! Good luck and God help you with the drying, a lab can take a day to dry that double coat!!!

Hi I can relate to elephants message as I have a labrador too but she can be bathed and dried and will then go roll in the mud. So what's the point?

Re:Grooming Your dog Reply to this message
They may be a little easier to handle if you harness them while bathing them wether in side or out and tie them up until they are dry. A car chamois is great for drying them off quickly too

Hi! Was wondering if you have any hints on how to wash a lab easier? We have two that love rolling in the dirt and mud, but they don't like water tipped on them so we find it very hard at bath times!!! Help?
