Like you I have a Jewish ancestry (Grandmother). Americans and Germans are very touchy about the holocaust. According to older family members this has got worse since Israel was "created" and has intensified with Israel's treatment of the Arabs.

personally I wouldn't worry about it. People will always find it easier to try and forget then face up to facts.

Facebook Folk Refuse the Holocaust Reply to this message
Over the weekend, I made a comment on my facebook about VWs connection to the natzi regime. Never did I imagine that the following day there would be such a frenzy of messages, support and hate mail from people around the world. Some I knew from my friends list and others I had never met before.

As a girl I was raised in a Christian home but through my mothers blood line I am considered Jewish. The beauty of Judaism caught up with me later in my life and I fell in love with my heritage, my people, the teachings, and the culture of where i came from. Part of that Culture and heritage is remembering the Holocaust. To remember is to never let it happen again and as a Jewish woman it is my responsibility to pass this memory on to my future generations.

The thing that shocked me the most was that in this day and age, The holocaust or any mention of it is so taboo. In amongst my hate mail I found a message from a young German lady who stated that she knows about the horrible reality but would prefer to forget and move on from there as thinking about it only made her upset.
I was then continually attacked by her boyfriend who falsely claimed that I called her and modern day Germans natzis, when in fact I never even mention Germans or Germany and clearly she was no natzi. He also said that I had a brain between my two ears and I should use it, that I was ignorant and absurd for bringing up such issues on facebook.

So my question I leave with you...
Have we become so politically correct that we cant state a simple truth without being attacked for it? Have we become so blissful in our ignorance that we can not handle the horrible truth that once was? Have we become so self indulgent that a general honest comment about history has become a personal offence?

pls note that i have spelt natzi incorrectly as yahoo will not let me post the correct spelling as it is considered a swear word... yeah, Im serious!
