ok recipes sent. Jan we have a couple of those thingys. They are good for when you go on holidays. I never thought of using them for the slow cooker though.
My slow cooker doesn't stick or burn and you can just let it go without stirring. In fact that is what you are supposed to do. Mine came from Aldi for $30. They will probably be bringing them out on special again soon.

Yes you can get a seperate gadget to put between your power cord of the slow cooker and the point. We use them for all our chirstmas lights. They came from bunnings at about $4 each I am sure you will find them all over the place. People use them when they go on holidays to turn on lights. we have one on our fish tank for the light.
Can I put my hand up as well for the slow cooker receipies please for my sister. email can take any size mail kas123au @yahoo.com.au just remove the space to stop spammers harvesting it :)
many thanks

Sue, I have a Breville slow cooker - only used it twice but it cooks beautifully. Nothing sticks. I think it was $69 for the 3L size.

Call me a Ning Nong but I noticed in Sue's post, a 'timer' was mentioned. When I got my new slow cooker last week I was told they weren't made with an automatic timer which is what I wanted. Sue, are you implying you can buy a seperate gadget that controls the on/off switch of a power point? God if that's the case, I want one NOW!!...or am I barking up the wrong tree? I am gadget illiterate, can anyone answer this?
Also, which one is the yummy chicken curry recipe? I could really go a good chook curry right now lol.
Slow Lover,

While we are on the subject of slow cookers.....
If left unattended, the food in mine tends to catch and burn on one end. Its fine if I am home to give it the occasional stir, but if I am not there I always end up with a burnt bit.
Its a Ronson my mum bought for me, probably a cheapie (no offence meant to mum, but she does love a bargin LOL).
So my question is do others have this problem. If not, what brand do you have that you find is good.
Many thanks

Thank you heaps linda!! i showed mum and you should have seen her face light up!! "i can put it on when i get home from work, and then we can have it for lunch the next day!!" she normally gets home from work between 12am and 5am and we have the main meal as lunch here, and a smaller meal for tea, as its only me and brother here for tea.
We had the chicken curry recipe base slow cooker thing, and omg! that one was delish aswell!! |

Ha ha Pyretta I know it is a slow cooker but I thought they might dry out or overcook or something. Good to see you haven't lost any of your cheek whilst being under all the strain and problems of late keep it up

Hi Debbie
Some of the recipes are 8-10 hours cooking time so they would be fine. For others that need less just plug it in via a timer.
I have one brewing away as I type, it only needed 6-8 hours, so did not need to go on until later in the morning. I set the timer to start at 10am, so it will be doen by the time I get home. The only recipes that are a problem with this are the ones that need ingredients added during the cooking time. I avoid these ones.......
And they are extremely unlikely to send the house up in flames, unless there is something wrong with your wiring or the cooker itself. You can always get your appliance tested for your peace of mind. Other stuff is on when you are not home (fridge, cl ocks, etc etc). I am an electrician, and there is no way I would leave my low voltage downlights on when I am not home - huge fire risk - but the slow cooker - no worries.
cheers

I set my6 slow cooker going at 9am and sit down to dinner at 6 or 7pm.
It is designed to be left on and alone for that amount of time. Most recipes I have for the low setting state to leave it cook for up to 10 hours. The temperature is actually quite low.
That's why it's called a SLOW cooker.

| not if you put it on a slow setting Deb... or auto in which case it does the cooking and turns its self on and off just to keep the meal warm. |

Okay - Okay - I have my order in for a Slow Cooker/cor ock pot for Mother's Day. For someone who usually misses out on meat (unless it is mince) can I really eat meat done this way??
Also - hubby has a thing about leaving the cooker on all day whilst no-one is home - how will that effect insurances if the house goes up in flames he wants to know - Cheesh. |

Hi Bel, they are on the way.
Eel I have scanned some hints for converting ordinary recipes to slow cooker and also scanned my favourites from a Margaret Fulton recipe. The rest I collected from a very bored friend (at work). I am happy to send them if you give me your email address.
