Very nervious!!!!!

It is recommended you stick with what your surgeon has set out for you. Only he knows your personal requirements. if he hasn't mentioned meat then try and avoid it. If you are unsure you can always contact him or one of his staff and ask.
Most people are the shakes/bars and 2 cups of veg only, but it does differ from surgeon to surgeon.
Best of luck.

| A nice hot decaf coffee helped. Also, it is really hard to re-learn that you wait 20-30 minutes before feeling properly full and satisfied. |

Cat,
I always looked at it as a means to an end, knowing that by sticking with the shakes and restrictive diet I would eventually have an easier op with less recovery pain. I kept telling myself my old ways of eating was what got me to needing the band in the first place so there was no use in going back to it.
It really is a mind game, a head battle and one only you can control. it's not easy and i wish you well.

Pyretta, and others who did Opti for longer than 2 weeks:
I'm on 3 weeks of a restrictive diet and I've lost 7kgs but last night marks the point where I am REAAALLY sick of being on this and want to binge and go back to my old ways.
Getting absolutely so sick of the same foods. Celery, salad with no dressing, meat, chicken, canned tuna, cooked fish, protein shakes. BLECK.
So far I have just kept reminding myself that after having a massive pig out, I felt no better. In fact I usually felt sick, bloated and guilty.
It is like an antsy feeling, like if I don't go binge something bad will happen.
So bizarre.

Sonya,
I went back to intensive Optifast 6 weeks prior to banding. But I had been on Opti for 2 years. Very long story.
It really is important to stick with what your surgeon requires. I know a lot of people will say they cheated and it doesn't matter, but it really does. Not only for the weight loss and the liver shrinking aspects, but also it helps with the liquids stage post op and recovery seems much easier for those that follow their surgeons rules.
You will get some great advice on here but if it contradicts your surgeon then follow his guidelines, only he knows what he expects of you.

Blueeyednursey, hope you start to feel better soon. Good on you for losing the 12kilos that's fabulous.
I am on day 10 of Optifast and have lost 5 kilos. Another three days before the big day, I am so nervous, but can't wait for it to come now.

I am pretty sore and have a pain in my side and shoulder but hopefully will feel heaps better as the weekend comes upon us. Hope so as I have to go back to work on Monday arghhh.... |

S eljendi,
Please check with your surgeon that he will allow you to use the Optislim instead of the Optifast, some of them are very strict on it and if you don't achieve the results he requires you may have your surgery postponed.

Wow Caz
#rd December is less than a month away now. Trust me it will be here before you know it. Good luck with the sleep test tomorrow.
I got sick of waiting for the hosp to call me..so I called them. I am third on the list tomorrow so it should be all over by early afternoon.
I just had my last solid meal for a month...if you can call a cup of salad a solid meal :) And just showered with their special sponge so I am all germ free :)
Take care

Hi Caz,
Enjoy your sleep test. You don't know what wired for sound is until you have one, but at least it is painless. If sleep apnoea is the diagnosis, take heart, CPAP is good and makes you feel much better. I used to feel I was sleeping in Martin Place I was dreaming so much, no more.
All the best

Sonya,
The VLCD (very low calorie diet) is to make your liver less bulky so it is easier to get around during the op. Apparently it is the first place we lose weight, weird. I was given a choice with shakes but they must be total meal replacements eg have all the vitamins and even some fibre. There are about 4 or 5 that pass this test. Even though the calories are very low, if you do as instructed you probably won't feel hungry, also weird, but be sure to drink lots to flush out the ketones, a chemical our bodies make when we are using up our fat stores. Just follow the doctors orders and you will be fine. Hope that answers all your queries Regards

I believe the difference between Optfifast and Optislim is that Optifast is designed to replace 3 meals whereas Optislim isn't?
Optifast is backed by clinical trials in reference to adequate nutrition so that is probably why the doc's like patients having it.

I still have not heard what time I have to go in tomorrow so I am getting really anxious that they have screwed up.
I called the hopsital and apparently I have to wait for the ward to call. This waiting is making me very nervous

Hi Kylie,
My op is tomorrow...arrgghhhh
The Optifast for a month is tough. But just keep thinking about the end result and it becomes a bit easier. I occasionally had 2 cups of vegies a day if I found it tough going. Don't forget you can also have diet jelly (the lemon and lime one is really nice).
Good luck with it.
