Katie,

If you stick to it 9 days should be fine. Best of luck with it, it's not easy but really worth the effort.

Hi everyone - Just joined msg board. Saw doc today for surgery booked 11/9. Only started optifast today. Promised I would do it perfectly, as its only 9 days away. Is 9 days enough?

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi Marie,
Welcome and as you can see most questions can be answered on this board....thank god is has been great support for me/us leading up to banding esp.
We do have a September 09 thread started I will bring to the front and you can add your name if you dont know how just post on it and someone will help you just copy and past and add your name is a bit of a hassle if your only learning but no matter it all works out.
Are you having the 2 cups of vegies I find these are getting me through, I am now day 3 opti and finding the hunger isnt as bad or should I say cravings.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi all!
I've been reading over this thread for a couple of weeks now, and finally decided to become apart of it. I'm set to go in for my lap band on the 24th of September.. been on the Optifast for 2 weeks now and have lost 5 kgs. 3 more weeks to go, and I'm so excited.. can't wait to officially change my life. Finding it hard on Optifast, definitely missing the joy of eating HEARTY food lol.. but it'll be worth it in the end. Saw my Physician today, he was great.. very thorough in getting me prepared mentally, also. Got my Dietician and ultrasound appointments next Friday.

Good luck to all!

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
V,

Most chemists stock Optifast, or can get it in for you. Chemist Warehouse seems to be one of the cheapest places that isn't online.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Jennifer,

Probably not. A lot of the commercial soups have too many carbs. You could try something like bonox or borvil.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Need advise regarding soup !

Can anyone recommend any pre made soup that is suitable to use during the Opti stage? I know Miso soup is ok, Just wondering if any of the soups in the supermarkets are ok too?

Thanks in advance, Jennifer

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
...and just another thing.... remember on this journey, this period will pass very quickly, and you will be on to the next, and then you will be wondering how to get throught that period. I found the liquid stage post op to be quite easy as I stayed on the Optifast mainly and added some soups and drinking yoghurt (also had some juice, but my stomach got upset from that). I have been very hungry in the mushy stage. I am on to food now, and still hungry :) Hopefully my first fill tomorrow. Good luck to you all.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
hi All, Just made some of the Vegetable soup and it was absolutely beautiful. Even Hubby said he could handle eating it for the next 3 weeks. and I have found that having the jelly for sweets takes away most cravings for naughty treats. 4 days down, 17 to go. Cheers, hope you all have a great day :=)

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi yumyum...
Add a bit of caraway seeds (1/2 teaspoon) to the water when boiling cabbage and you will not have any problems with gas. I lived on cabbage during my optifast period and had no problems.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Leebee,

you may want a word with your surgeon or dietitian before your tennis tournament as you may need extra carbs for it. Just chat with them and let them know what you are up to.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi All,
I will be starting Optifast in 8 days. Was just wondering how people have gone on it with exercise. I need to play comp tennis two days a week and it is quite tiring. Am a bit worried that being on optifast only will leave me dizzy. Has anyone had any experience with this.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi all
on day 10 of opti, 8 more to go (surgery on 28th)...have lost 4kgs so far. Doing pretty good on opti although realised I'd been having too much cabbage and the gas was unbearable (to stomach and nose :o) have switched to lettuce.

Went to the dieticians this morning. Glad I read on forum about the enhanced primary care plan - even though I have health insurance (only ancillary), it makes things a little cheaper when I get more back from Medicare (than health insurance) and an added bonus of seeing an Exercise Physioligist to discuss exercise after band.

Bring on 28th August...

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
me and myown

I also did it for 3 weeks. I was 180kg. I think it all depends on how much you have to lose. I know people that have had to do it for 4 weeks and one person I know did 6 weeks.

Just bear with it. It is to get rid of excess fat from your liver so the operation can be done easier and they dont run into complications. I lost 10kg with opti.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
hi , my doctor said 2 weeks but the dietician said 2 to 3 weeks. So I started slowly and had 2 opti meals and normal dinner for 1 week , then 3 opti meals a day with 2 cups vegies for 2 weeks. Lost about 10 kg's and surgeon said liver was great.
Hope this helps
