Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Day 7, weigh in day. I have been the same weight since day 5. Loosing 2.8kg and seemed to stop loosing since about day 4. I have gone by the book, have cut out sugar free lollies for a couple of days, and had a small amount of s.f. jelly. My body must be fighting it. I did better on Atkins I lost 4 kg in 3 days on that. Just a bit disappointed all my hard effort has paid off. I hope I can loose some more next week. I will try doing a bit more walking with the girls if it ever stops raining long enough.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
bigkabus,

Try not to overdo the sugar free stuff. some of it is still high in carbs and it will undo your hard work on opti.

I limited myself to 2 bowls of sugar free Jelly a day. if you want to eat a bar, I suggest using the Opti bars for meal replacements. You will find if you can drink more water you won't need the sugar free chocolates and lollies.

Some people find it easier to have a shake for breakfast and lunch then a bar around 3 or 4 pm then the veggies at night with jelly for a night snack if that helps.

You could expect to lose between 3 and 4 kilo per week if you follow the rules. Cheers Louise

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi, day 5 today. Going ok, haven't blown it yet. How much should I loose in the first week (avg) as I know everyone is different? I would love to drop 10kg in the 3 weeks pre-op. Wondering does anyone know if you can eat sugar free chocolate, or atkins bars? And how much sugar free lollies and jelly is to much? Like they say only 2 cups of vegies, but how much is to much on the sugar free stuff. Just a bit worried I will eat to much of it. Trying to drink more, but that is challenging sometimes. October 8 feels so far away..

Hi Maralyn
I was banded in July & lost 10kg on Opti. My Dr was thrilled with me & said there wasn't a fat cell to be seen on my liver. My guess is yours will be more thank thrilled with you losing 12kg. Good luck with the op. Best decision I ever made.

Marilyn,

I'm not sure how much you were hoping to lose in that time, but it sounds like an excellent result to me. Four weeks and 12 kgs? I'd say that's about as good as it gets! :-) Be very happy with yourself - you've done well.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
ness - I don't get gastro but I do get a lot of stomach pain on the optifast. I think it's just that you chuck a whole heap of chemicals onto an empty stomach. That's sort of what it feels like for me! I'm sure it will get a bit better once your body adjusts. Most people have the opposite problem!!

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
for me,

It would definitely be best to check with your surgeon about using an alternative shake. Some are fine with it but others insist it MUST be opti.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi, I'm a newbie (soon to be banded - cannot wait) and I was wondering if I was able to use Atkins shakes rather than Opti for this stage. I know they get me into ketosis as I've used them before (on one of my countless previous LowCarb diets - lol) - so if the aim is weight loss and ketosis would Atkins shakes be okay? Would I be best to check in with my surgeon about this?

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi Trish! Thanks :)
I am having the 2 cups of veggies also.. I was loving it for the first week, but now I'm sort of "veggied-out" Lol. Drinking the 2-3L of water REALLY REALLY helps.. the first week I was extremely strict on it, drinking 1.5L bottles, one after the other. This second and third week I've been extremely busy with work, so drinking less.. it makes SUCH a difference to the hunger feelings. I'm feeling good though, and my skin is looking good in result :) Just can't wait for the surgery, 3 weeks isn't soon enough.
