Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
I am on day 3 of optifast and it sux....big time. I am struggling with my desire to just chew something other than steam veggies. I have 2 littles ones that i am constantly making food for, and i am finding it very hard not to pop that left over sandwich triangle into my mouth as i clean up. Plus i make hubby's dinner (my choice) each night and it smells soooo good. I know the reasons why i am doing this. I have my surgery booked for Oct 20th and the optifast makes it easier for the surgeon to place the band, but it doesn't stop it from sucking any less. I just needed to have that gripe....thanks....

thanks heaps for your comments!

I just went for my lunchtime walk (in the wind) and the kelloggs factory is near my work - all i could smell in the air was cocopops...got back to work had a optifast soup with some vegies thrown in (it really fills you up) and am back at my desk drinking water to rid myself of cocopop cravings :0)

Whens your surgery date?

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
I am on day 3 of Optifast and am struggling physically, but psychologicall got a massive boost when I jumped on the scales and realised I had dropped 2.5 after 2 full days on Optifast. So I am beginning to turn the corner - the inner crankyb%tch is slowing leaving and last night I didn't struggle with cooking the family dinner (meatballs and chorizo in spagetti sauce) after eating my cup of steamed vegies.

Found if I am really struggling the following helps:-
45 min brisk walk
miso soup
a big drink of water
diet jelly
hot water and lemon juice
a cleaning diversion (furiously go clean something).

Mind you my dreams are all so food related! I wonder what Freud would say :0).

11 more days till surgery. My sick leave has been approved and I am so so so looking forward to waking up after surgery.

Am going to give it a red hot go and try not to break the sacred covenant of "allowable food/drinks". Will keep in touch and let you know how I go (even if I fall off the wagon!!!) Good luck to you girl. Monica

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi Bec, thanks for the reply. Am off to see dietician today and start optifast tomorrow!!! Yikes!!! LOL When I saw the surgeon last week for my first appointment he told me optifast was the best product to use and that it's designed to get rid of as much fat around the liver before surgery etc. He reckons it can shrink the liver up to 30% pre-surgery which will therefore minimise the chance of injuring the liver/spleen during the surgery. Either way, I'm going to suck it up and stick to it!! it's only for two weeks after all. Can't wait for my surgery on the 22nd!! Yay!!

Thanks again for your insight and good luck with the surgery girl!!! LOL Let me know how you go. Good luck!! Monica

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi Jodie,
Hang in there - it is so worth it. I wished I had joined the forums before surgery just over a week ago. So much more informative and more understanding as everyone has been through the same experience.
Good luck,
Tyseena.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Don't be tempted by the Carbs when on Optifast. I ate two handfulls of cashews last Thursday night and it took two days to get back into the zone. It was like starting all over again. Spare yourself the stress and stick to the program. Miso soup helps. Mack

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
I agree with Pyretta, I love the optifast strawberry milkshakes, they are so filling and really tasty. I have had/still have optislim choc and vanilla which are pretty gross. Optifast is much more effective I find the strawberry fills me for ages. I am just starting my 3 week of it, b4 my op next Thursday. The first 4 days are the worst, then you have up and down days. Takes determination and willpower. Very good luck

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Jodie,

Yeah I had my Lap Band Placed 2 years ago. I should tell you though I was on OptiFast for 22 months prior to banding and shed over 60kg on it, so it does work if you stick to it. I have tried the Optislim and I didn't find it as filling or as effective.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Jodie,

Days three and four can be the hardest, just get through them any way you can, drink heaps of water, and you'll get there. Keep reminding yourself why you are doing it and yes I have alo found that Optislim aren't as nice or as filling as the Optifast. Go figure. Could be why they are half the price.

I am day 3 into 21 days of Optifast, I am having Optislim which they said was fine at the chemist and I also rang the surgeon and the girls there said that would be fine. This is the worst day so far, the shakes are disgusting and i am nearly throwing them up lol I am really trying not to make a sandwich......

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
The newer flavours that contain only 8 in a pack also contain fibre. Not only that they are much nicer than the choc or vanilla so they know people will pay more for them.

I really like the strawberry with frozen strawberries as it makes it ice cold. But so expensive as only 8 in a pack. Why is this?

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
One of the incision made during the surgery is for a liver retractor. Opti shrinks the liver making the retraction more effective and improving the view for the surgeon. Use the Opti and understand that it is for good reason. BMI is important to the anaesthetist and he will be pleased with any reduction as it makes his life eaiser.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi, Blonde. You're starting your opti, when I finish and go in for the op. The first 3 days are the worst, but if you can stick to it and get past that it does get easier. For me, I felt tired, fatigue'd, shakey, bad headaches. Now I feel fine most days, except very hungry at times. It takes sheer wilpower to not cheat the diet I think.

All surgeons have different views on opti-fast. I think it may do with BMI too. Some ppl don't have to do it at all. I watched a surgery of the lap band and not sure if this person had been on opti or not, but there was that much fat around the stomach, I don't know how they saw anything. After seeing that, I understood. Good luck with everything. Bec

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi, I'm due to start my Optifast on the 08/10. I'm being banded by Blair Bowden at the Wesley Private on the 22/10/09. I only have to go on it for 2 weeks. It seems most of you have to do it for longer? Maybe I should start now?? Have started a thread for Oct 09 bandits too btw.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Thanks Pyretta. I have just measured out one of the big glasses we have. It holds 500 ml. So I drink at least 4 of those, that should cover it as a minimum per day. Easy to drink all that in summer, but not so easy when it is cool. Will soldier on.....

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
bigkabus,

Make sure you are drinking AT LEAST 2 litres of water or calorie free liquids, you need it to flush the system while you are having the Opti. It really helps with the weight loss.
