Hi Debbie

so had to eat something, had 1 cup steamed vegs and an apple.
hoping this is the way to go?
Cheers
Anita

Hey Ness,
Don't be too hard on yourself...you sound like you are doing really well...we all have our breaking points though. My doctor never told me about Optifast, I was banded at 165kg. I had gone to a naturopath though a year or so before that (when I had gallstones) and he put me on a "diet" eating heaps of food, including 3 tablespoons of olive oil each day with lemon, chicken stirfries, etc...and I was losing 3kg a week and the fatty liver reduced massively. For me, I no longer have access to this guy...or I would be back for sure...but I need a plan, it seems and Optifast is the easiest one for me at the moment, that requires little thinking or preparation to get me back on track and a big boost of weight loss going into the New Year. Stick with it...try lemon in your water as an added bonus (it apparently helps a fatty liver) and weight loss too (and allowed on the Optifast diet). Only 7 days, you can do it...I'll be tagging along beside you.
All the best,
Debbie |

Hi Ness,
I think it is important to not beat yourself up about it to start with. I gave up smoking as well prior to surgery and i couldnt tolerate the optifast at all it made me gag and throw up. I then went onto green vegies only with a small amount of protein from fetta cheese or fish at dinner time. I managed to loose over 7kgs.
Having said that by doing the optifast it shrinks the liver which then makes the surgery easier and the recovery time is better. If you can tolerate the shakes, soups and bars then stick with it and I used to keep about 1 cup of my vegie allowance in a bowl which I would take to work with me for when i got the munchies, raw cauliflower, capsicum, celery, cucumber and tomato.
Good luck with it all but dont beat yourself up about it just do the best to get back on track tomorrow.
Best wishes

Hi Deb and to everyone else,
This is my first message, though i have been reading your messages for the last couple of weeks (and have been busting to join in) which has been great as I have gained good info for my upcoming lap banding which is scheduled for Monday 23.10.06. I am a little worried though, I gave up smoking..yeah...about 6 weeks ago and was advised by doc to go on Optifast for 2 weeks prior to op...gee it is hard. I have been pretty good, no chocolate or anything real bad, but haven't completely stuck to it...I am near beside myslef thinking that I will wake up and it won't have been done........does that happen often does anyone know? I weigh in at 114.8 this morning...

whoohoo...survived my first day of Optifast...and feel stuffed, actually. Did the shake breakfast and lunch, 2litres of lemon water..stir fry for tea and choccie mousse...full as a goog !! I'm a bit confused, the chart shows exactly what i have eaten (with no additional foods) but on the back as a list of additional foods to have during the intensive phase (tiny bit of fruit), 1 serve dairy, tea's ok but coffee not (no caffeine)..i though tea was caffeine. Oh, well I've had my fill for the day...very contented...day 2 here I come !!

Hi Megs
Check with your doctor, are you the same Megs on the Gold Coast? If so I'm from Gold Coast and I didn't have to order OPtifast, my doctor's staff ordered it from Wesley Hospital in Brisbane sent it to me the next day with an invoice and I had 30 days to pay for it.

Hi Megs,
I don't know if you can buy Optifast from its site:
www.optifast.com.au
I get mine from the local chemist. I rang them yesterday evening (Sunday) and it was there this morning !!...very good service, I must say...once you buy the product, you go to their website put in the barcode from the box, that joins you up as a member and then they send you newsletters, etc. Unfortunately, I have lost my orginal details I logged in under...and not accessing the info I need at the moment (waiting for my email back from them !). Anyway, they send you recipes, etc...quite a good little service (should be for the cost !!).
Cheers

Debbie,
I measured the raw veggies first and then steamed them. I was told 1 cup of veggies by my Dr.

I have to start this stage in approximetly 2 weeks and I'm certainly not looking forward to it. In fact I sitll have to purchase some of it. Does anyone know of a site that I can buy it off?? Or is it cheaper to try and get it on ebay?

Hi Debbie,
The veggies should be low-carb ie green leafy, and steamed. Do not use carrot, parsnip, sweet potatoe or pumkin as these are high carb.

I know this is a dumb question..but the 2 cups of veggies...is that cooked or raw ?? I've checked the Optifast brochure and website but doesn't really say. I would like to cook them up in a stirfry or soup...and not sure if I should have 1 cup or 2 when they are cooked. Also like V8 juice (it doesnt mention that on the brochure) and that has all the allowed veggies but not sure if I should have 1 cup or 2 of that, either...can any of the Optifast gurus clarify that, if possible.
Thanks,
Debbie |

I'm halfway thru my first day on Optifast (even though banded some time ago) as I really needed to get back on track with a plan laid out for me. I've been pretty good over the last 4 weeks, but noticed the latter part of this last week I was starting to falter, so decided to do Optifast...100% after hearing so many success stories on this site. Had my breakfast and lunch shake, 1 litre of water today and realised I really love the texture and feeling of chomping on food. I'm certainly not hungry (having 7ml in 10ml band) and think this has been my biggest downfall...not the hunger...just love the taste and enjoyment of food (and boredom...although I am at work today)...no matter how little of it and how often I have it.
I'm actually looking forward to my veggie stirfry for tea and Optifast choccie mousse for dessert. I am going to do this by hook or by crook (as they say)....and going to drive you all nuts posting my progress...please will me all your WILLPOWER to stick with this and be driving our family ski boat by Xmas !!!
Thanks,
Debbie |

ooh, I know what you mean Anita...I also had a blow-out on Saturday night at a friend's bbq...I was doing ok until they brought the desserts out. I have decided after 4 weeks and being reasonably good, I need a bit more structure and a plan...so I've started Optifast 100% from today (instead of as an occasionally meal replacement every other day)...gosh I hope I get thru Day 1 ok !! I will do the shakes breakfast and lunch...stir fry and soup for tea and have bought the choccie mousse for dessert...I think that will be a good plan for me...hopefully !! If I can be really good, I hope to be on it until Christmas and give myself a huge boost to my weight loss for the New Year.
Good luck to you to..I'm riding with ya !

HI all.. I really like the Optifast bars - more expensive but so convenient. I have ordered lots of them... feel more of a treat than the shakes... Despite that.. I have not been very good but tomorrow....

Thanks Leanne,
I rang my chemist this arvo to order some Optifast...as I think I'm going to give it 100% for at least the next 2 weeks to give me a boost and see how I go...I asked for the asian soup..and she was going on it wasn't on her list, blah, blah..and asked her to check again "it must be there"...oh dear, ooops...LOL. I finished up getting the 2 flavoured shakes for breakfast/lunch...have my stir fry veggies with soy sauce (as suggested on the leaflet) and a choc dessert ... wish me luck !! |

Hi Pyretta and Debbie
Glad you pulled me up on that one Pyretta, the Asian Soup is actually Tony Ferguson not Optifast, sorry to have mislead you.
The RDI and Calcium intakes are correct for Optifast I just got confused with the Asian Soup brand.

Leanne,
I haven't heard of or seen the Optifast Asian soup. Has it been out for long? I haven't been able to find it anywhere here in Melbourne or any mention of it on the Novaris website.

Hi Leanne,
I like up and go and sustagen too...so maybe our tastebuds are similar...I might give the asian soup a go...stir fry sounds good with my 2 cups of veg, as a soup or a sauce to pour over the veg...trial and error...that's me !!
Thanks,
Debbie |
