Hi everyone, I have just started optifast myself today and have been reading all of your posts, I am so glad I found them, it is really good to hear everyone's views. I tried to log onto the optifast website but am having trouble at first I wasn't sure whether it was my computer, but have just tried mine at work and still having a problem. Has anyone else come across this. Any way guys I will continue to read on and I wish everyone luck in their optifast journey.
Cheers

minieme its not at all wrong to have veggies for tea its nice to eat at least one meal with your family my dietician told me i could have a piece of grilled chicken or fish with my veggies the size of a deck of cards, as long as you stick to the optifast for the 2 other meals
good luck when you start on monday :)

I am having my op next tuesday and have been on the optifast 11 days now and 4 kilos down.... I have been replacing breakfast and lunch and having veggies and soup for dinner, the first 2 or 3 days were the hardest but dont even feel hungry now... believe me it does get easier, I will probably finish the rest of my optifast while I am on the liquids phase

I am going to have my opp next week and I have tried and tried to keep on track with the optifast and have had no luck. I don't know how to say this, but, its it normal for opitfast to come out looking the same as it goes down? I had my gallblader out last year which I think could be the problem.

| Hi Trish, I have been on Optifast 3 times a day for nearly 3 weeks. I lost all hunger pains on day 2! Day 1 I was lost wanted to eat felt empty. Day 2 easier could eat but knew not to. Day 3 no appatite at all. I do not get any hunger pains. Just take it one day at a time and you can do it. I ate sugar and fat free lollies if I needed to. Diet Jelly after tea vegies. If you need to just have a small salad for lunch. this was a lot easier than I thought it would be. Your body will adjust to it. Don't cheat. It works. karen S |

Hi Melbguy,
I was in the chemist the other day and they had a lolly type thing that helps control hunger pains. I am about to start optifast and thought these might be good to have in my pocket in case of the hunger pains come on while l am work. I sip on water all day drinking about 2 litres per day
Cheers Trish |

I have now been on opti for 45 days which is 3 shakes a day 10 grapes at dinner and lunch and a diet jelly at dinner also along with the 2 L of water, i was last weighed 2 weeks ago and was down 15kg's.
My Dr wanted me down 20-25 by Op which is 21st May so i think i will get there. Just wanted all the people who are struggling to know you can do this i know it's hard but you need to be strong i have been weak for 31 years so being strong for a little period of time till op is easy for me- remember why we are all doing this and look deep for yr strength and use it.. You know you can do it ...
The only tip i can give is always have a bottle of water with you and any time your feeling hungry skull it trust me it works also always keep chewing gum on you sugar free of course it helps so much with my hunger pains. |

Hi,
I was wondering do you have the optifast 3 meals per day or just 2 and have a regular meal for the 3rd one?? What is the best to drop the kilos fast? I go back to see Mr Nottle on the 9th May and want to kick 10 kilos first. Since Saturday l have lost 3 kilos with diet and exercise but dont think the weight loss will be that good after the 1st week fluid loss. Any suggestions will help |

Hi All
I am having a clean out of my pantry and have a few things here that I bought for post op eating and drinking and did not use. I would like to offer them to anyone who thinks they will use them. If you would like some of these things, let me know what you'd like by dropping me a line at smbangel@hotmail.com and I will let you know where I live and you can come and pick them up. I am in Joondalup so that might influence your decision about whether it is worth the trip here or not.
There is:
- one tin of French Vanilla Sustagen - 400 grams
- 2 small bottles of sunraysia prune juice
- 4 cans/tins of baby food
- 2 packets of peppermint tea
- 3 squeeze sustagen drinks french vanilla and chocolate
- 2 chocolate up and go's
Cheers

Hi everyone,
I am pleased to report that I am back from Margaret River after attending a very close family members wedding at a winery.
It was beautiful weather, and the wedding and co cktail reception in the yards was absolutely wonderful. I got to catch up with a lot of family I haven't seen in a while, which is always good. The wedding itself was lovely and very family /friends orientated. The couple involved have not been together all that long, but are mid 40's, so it wasn't a huge indulgent wedding.
The good news I have to report is that I had a few wines (all from the winery and delicious I must add) and the finger food was all delicious. The great thing is that most of it was small serves of protien, so I don't feel I have mad a huge dent in my no carb/Optifast time.
There were things such as Half marron's served in the shell, a scallop served on a bed of corriander leaves and topped with a smidge of chilli jam, small skewers of beef marinated in black bean sauce, little balls of mushroom, brie and artichoke hearts mixed up - admittedly these were fried, little rolls of proscutto wrapped around chicken breast pieces. It was all really yummy, but as there was not a lot of fried stuff and not much carb's, I don't feel too guilt ridden about ruining it.
I can't stomache the Optifast, so I had a try of my Mum's Terry Ferguson shakes and can keep them down, so she got me a stack of flavours to try and all the soups (4) to try. So I am doing the TF shake, OF bar, TF soup thing for the next three weeks before surgery.
Good luck all of us.

Hi Nat,
I'm sure you will do some good being on Optifast for nine days, you are certainly not going to do any harm!!
My surgery is in 4 days and I have had a bit of an on/off Optifast program too.
Optifast is hard enough to do at any time but when you know that at the end of it you are no longer going to be able to eat some of the the things we are missing out on, it makes it even harder!!
I just keep telling myself its all going to be worth it.
Good luck!

Hi guys. I was doing optifast at the begining of the month and was doing great then I hit easter and made the fatal mistake of having a bit of chocolate, I then went off the rails for a few days having "last meals" got a hold of myself then was doing great for another week then it was my 6yr olds birthday and was baking for her party and went off the rails again. Now I am starting again tommorow and am a bit worried cause I only have 9days left till my op. Do you still think it can do some good in those 9 days?. Gee I could shoot myself for not being stronger. I really should of come on here earlier for motivation.

Hi I'm an Optifast Survivor and here are some tips I found useful.
Always make shakes with cold water (250ml) and ice.
Add a few drops of orange or peppermint essence to the chocolate shake. (The orange was my favourite)
Add a few drops of vanilla or strawberry essence or a couple of teaspoons of instant coffee to the vanilla shake.
The berry bars were so much nicer than the chocolate ones.
Also the peppermint or orange essence works a treat in the chocolate dessert.
Puree 60gms of strawberries (1/2 the daily fruit limit) and pour over the dessert as a sauce.
Always make the soup with cold water and add some chille powder. Steam the vegie allowance, put in a soup bowl and pour soup over. Extra heat in microwave if required. Sometime hot vegies heat soup up enough.
Try chopping up the vegies and stir frying them in some worcester sauce, chille powder and at the end add a bit of soy.
Good luck |
