Oh Alicia, your tastebuds are strange, and I mean that in the nicest way! If you want, I'll send you a cappacino bar to try?
Anyway, the local optifast chemist had Coffee and Strawberry shakes, mixed veggie soup which I hadn't heard of before and cappacino bars. I got the bars! Has anyone noticed the huge range of flavours available in the US for the Optifast range? They have honey nut & oat bars, peanut butter bars and tomato soup. Ymmmm, love peanut butter! |

Strawverry & Cappachino are new flavours and about twice the price of the chocolate & vanila. Not all chemists have them yet. Cheapest places to get optifast is pharmacy direct online. Greg's if you are in Perth or eBay which is good to get a variety as people sell off packets they do not like.
A good price for 21 chocolate or vanilla shakes is $39.95 for 6 bars about $18 for 8 soup $23 and the new cappachino & strawberry in 8 packs $23 . they do not do the new ones in packs of 21.

Applesauce,
Funny enough, I'm almost out of my Opti stock so shopping I must go. I have Cappachino on the top of my list. I'm lucky I guess. I live near a Pharmacy Direct store and the costs aren't too bad for the Opti.
Cheers,

Hello.
Well I just got back from buying more chocolate shakes and decided after 3 weeks on just chocolate shakes I would buy the chocolate bar things and the chicken soup. The chocolate bar thing was ok, I feel a bit sick now, I hope that not why. I will try the chicken soup tonight. I think I just needed a variety to get me thru till this time next week!

raenbowland others find getting the shakes as cold as possible as in ice helps the taste. If cost is not an issue with you most find the strawberry & cappachino shakes better taste wise. If you still can not stomach them then go back and talk to your surgeon about TF and using it as a total meal replacement or at least using the shakes and soups as 2 of the 3 shakes/soups you have a day. Again tho I can not stress enough talk to your doctor BEFORE doing that as some doctors will not allow any variation.

Ok. I've tried all the shake and bar flavours and I have yet to finish a complete bar or shake. Geez, it doesn't seem to get any easier. And the post-opti burp...yuck!
Phew! Got that grumble off my chest...feeling a bit better and glad its still hours away from the next feast! |

Dana,
Oh you did give me a laugh when I saw the bottom line for your post. ROFLMAO
Well it's the end of day 5 and I almost have to keep looking down to make sure I had the surgery. Really I am very good, no pain, satisfied on the liquid diet and actually enjoying so many different flavours now. LOL I haven't stopped grinning since I was wheeled into surgery and even the guys at the gym were impressed with me returning today. All the details are on the pyretta thread LOl.
Anyway I'm off to bed so I can get up and of to the gym again tomorrow.
Have a great night's sleep everyone, remember, every day you wake up, it's a good day.

I just thought of what I can call myself once I am banded.

Dana,
Your doctor certainly is very generous. All the other stuff you can have, I'm jealous LOL. For six months on Optifast I had nothing but chocolate or vanilla shakes, made with water and a very restricted list of vegies to choose from, and then only 2 cups a day.
Your body should settle within a week or two but what you are experiencing now is a sort of detox so yeah it's all good.
Best of luck.

Baneze,
A lot of water is good, it really does help to flush the by-products from using your "fat stores" out of your system.
Your body will adjust and the trips to the loo will become less frequent.
If you keep at it the way you are, weight loss is a certainty.

My DOB is 27/11. 1st Dr appt on 4/9 I weighed 164.7. On 26/9 I was 165 told I would need to do Optifast for 4 weeks. BMI 57. Binged till 2/10. Last Wed I started on Optifast. I figure 8 weeks can't hurt. Will meet surgeon for 1st time on 19/10. I want to reduce my BMI as much as I can. I have found the Optifast to be fine. I've only had Vanilla, berry bars, choc dessert and choc bars. Vanilla shake is definitely better done in a blender rather than just in a shaker. That way the icecubes make it colder. Frozen Berries added in and blended are really yummy. Just had that for tea. Choc Bar goes down much better with a cup of coffee with skim milk. Yummy. Berry bars are 'almost OK'. I've eaten worse stuff. Chocolate dessert was Ok but my least favourite so far. I really like to peel and munch on lebanese cucumber, fresh tomato, fresh sliced mushroom, crunchy capsicum, etc. I like to cut up veges like this to munch on raw. My Dr gave me the following:
"The Optifast diet ...may well be difficult to manage in terms of lack of variation. Therefore we suggest that you can have the following added into your Optifast diet. Mix Optifast with 300ml skim milk or water. Pureed berries or mashed banana may be added. *small piece lean chicken breast grilled or pan fried. * 1 piece of grilled fish per day. * steamed vegetables and salad but no potato or pumpkin. Low fat soup - 1 per day. *1 piece of fruit per day.
I think my docter is very generous.
I have a 1.25lt Pump bottle which I fill/drink at least twice per day.
I had a little chicken on the plane flight BNE-ADE last Friday. I'm sure that 8 weeks of this will be OK for me.
By my scales I have already dropped over 5 Kgs since last Wed.
I'm like another person who posted here. Have been going to the loo non stop so no constipation probs at all. It's almost like I'm expelling my liver. Must be all the yukky stuff in it that's being ejected.
Best wishes to all Bandits.

Hi applesauce,
Not sure about being related but I amazed myself by enjoying the chicken soup after reading so much about it.
I will take a look out for TF roast pumpkin as I love pumpkin soup normally and this may be an option for me post banding.
Right now just thinking about it is making me salivate. Nights are definiely my downfall and with my husband away this week I am going to be giving myself a sterm talking to to ensure I don't put anything in this mouth that is not on the program!
Just counting sleeps ... till 20 December.

Alicia,
I agree. Buy a Variety Pak first that is what I did as I had heard so much about what the taste of this Optifast stuff was like. So many call it Optiyuk that I just had to try it in a small dose first. I obviously paid too much through it cost me $34.95 at the Chemist in Casuarina, Darwin.
Glad I did it though as I found the vanilla shake to be a little unpleasant but the chicken soup tonight was actually very nice.
I don't actually have to start on it yet but thought I should give it a try to see how difficult it may be when I actually have to prepare for surgery.
I've planned to take the chocolate shake to work tomorrow for lunch and have the chocolate bar for breakfast.
The variety pak also gives you the shaker, which if you use it sensible (not like me) works very wel for shakes.
There is also a chocolate pudding the the pak which I may have one dinner time as well.
Maybe I'll actually lose some weight while I'm trying all this. But I am drinking lots of water too as I really have a problem at night - want to eat anything and everything and am fighting the urge right now!

Pyretta,
I tried the chicken soup and after hearing all the negatives about how awful it is I prepared myself for the worst and was amazingly surprised that I liked it!
I stupidly put the hot water in the Optifast Shaker, then added the powder and attempted to shake but that was a disaster as it didn't like it at all. So just opened up the cover and gave it a really good mix up with a spoon.
I enjoyed eating it and quickly stir fryed a few pieces of broccoli and cauliflower in the prescribed oil and ate that to back itup.
I am feeling very full and drinking cold water so I won't dehydrate.
I knew this Optifast thing would be OK once I decided to try it. It also gives me great confidence for my pre-op use of it from 6 to 20 December.
As my little grandchildren would say ... only XXX amount of sleeps to go ...

Alicia,
That is hardly a cheat. There were no carbs involved and the calories were minimal.
It won't put a dent in your pre op preparation as long as you aren't doing it all day.
Best of luck

5 weeks and nope no cheat ever BUt that doesnt make me some great person it makes me this very very weak one who knows if she slips she is useless at getting back on the wagon. I had a starting BMI when I saw the surgeon of 52 I need to get weight off for safety reasons when it comes to surgery as well as shrink the liver.
This is soooooooo not about being this perfect person, me staying on the wagon is about knowing just how NOT perfect I am *LOL*
