Hi gostorm
I started my optifast yesterday, the first one was ok and by the second I didn't find it that bad. It doesn't taste bad but has a taste of its own if that makes sense. I managed yesterday with two shakes and then veges but today I'm hungry so I think I'll do the three shakes for sure.. yesterday I just didnt feel like three.
Thanks for the prices Bel..same as my prices here at chemist warehouse, although they do have the soups. I only got shakes though, thats just personal choice for me |

...how bad does optifast taste??Some refer to it as opti yuck....is it that bad? can you compare it to anything? 10 or so years ago i tried vanilla modifast, that was grosssssssssssss, like thickened paint.
anyway my surgeon is jason winnett and he wants me to do it two weeks before the surgery...does your stomach still grumble while youre taking optifast...hunger pains???thanks |

Hey there gostorm
Your welcome Is there a reason why you can only have milkshakes and no other optifast?

Hi all, just a quick note to give you the prices of Optifast if you live in Melbourne the Chemist Warehouse has them on special until Sunday 30th Dec 07, this is what i got yesterday.
Optifast Vanilla Milkshake - 21x40g $42.99 (Usually $49.99)
Optifast Choc Bars - 6x70g $17.39 (Usually $19.95)
Optifast Beryy Crunch Bars - 6x70g (Same as Bars Above)

| so far I don't feel too bad, tired but then I've been in a spring cleaning mode all day. The headache is slight and I had my 2nd shake about 3hrs ago, I'm getting a little peckish but I don't think I want another shake. Lots of the veges for dinner so that I can have the " eat " sensation with my partner. |

anitaband yeap headaches and feeling rotton for upto 4 days can be the norm as your body adjusts and misses its little fixes. After tht most of the hunger goes away along with the ikky feeling if you stick to the shakes and the low carb veg only.
Good to see so many getting ready for their wls in the new year, you go guys :)

cool andrea
I was told to start my optifast on Jan 1 to be banded on Jan 14th but I brought it yesterday and thought what the hell! start today. I've had a bit of a headache today but that could be because my body is in shock at the lack of caffiene, chocolate and the much smaller dose of nicotine!! Otherwise all is good |

Thanks Kas & Anita
I am happy to do the Optifast journey with you Anita. How many days do you intend to be on Optifast for?
I did really well on Optifast before my op and I'm sure it helped because the op went really well and my recovery was great. Good luck with it all.
I am feeling well, so far no hunger either. Like you say - 2 down 1 to go today.
Andrea
PS I will be on it as long as it takes to lose 23kg. |

| Thanks kas and andrea, there are a few of us starting optifast today and I'd have to say that with two down it's better than one. I haven't been hungry in between ( first was about 9am, 2nd just before 3pm) but I"ve munched on a carrot or two just to have that chew feeling! |

Hi
It's my first day on Optifast today too. I am not being banded soon. I was banded and had fantastic success but am not banded now. Alas, I have put on weight again which I am determined to lose. It felt so great to be at goal and I want to recapture that feeling.
My first day is going really well. I had a tomato and some lettuce at midday and two shakes (chocolate) so far. I feel so much better already just having decided to get stuck into it all again.
I noticed someone else started Optifast today - good luck.
To everyone just embarking on the lap-band journey I wish you all the best. It is still the best thing I have ever done for myself.

My op day is 14th Jan, and my doc wants me to do Optifast for 14 days prior. I promised myself I would start earlier, on Boxing Day actually. But haven't found the willpower to start yet. We are going away for the weekend, and I am thinking I may wait until Monday and start then, that is two full weeks before my op. I have tried the chocolate Optifast but not sure how to keep it up for the length of time required. But like some of you folk say, we have to do what we have to do. I don't want to wake up from my op not being banded, that would be just heartbreaking. I am still reading all I can here online and still learning so much of what it is all about. Good luck everyone that is on Optifast and for your op coming up.
regards
Maggie |

Oooooh myyyyyyyyy!! The first of the optifast is swallowed. I chose chocolate because in my mind I felt I was still getting a treat! I followed all the tips here and made the water as cold as possible..ready to go?! ..nope.. the blender decided to play up, in a panic now I had to control myself as I imagined my cold water gaining warmth. Then WhHHirrr! Away went the powder sitting on top of the water and yum! chocolate shake before my eyes.
This board is full of honest people so I'm going to do the same..that tasted..ok..not great! not sweet! but ok. I am unsure about the smell, it's something like wheatgerm to me but I've done it, I"m on my way, a few days early but determined. |

Mic,
My personal "cure" for the bad breath was to pick a parsley leaf or two from my herb garden and chew on it, or if I was out, one of those listerine melts or even tic tacs in a pinch, but only one at a time.
Best of luck with it, and if you get the bad breath it is a good sign you are in ketosis and burning all that fat away!

Hi Pyretta,
Hi Lo is Hi in calcium and low in fat. One step up from skim milk I think but I can go skim milk. Just cant go coffee black. I have read that bad breath can occur as well. How did you combat that? |

mic,
I'm not sure what Hi Low milk is but I was warned not to have coffee because it was a diuretic. I was also told that if I wanted coffee during the day I should increase my water consumption by 500ml for every cup of coffee. I had my coffee with skim milk and hermasetis sweeteners instead of sugar. Some days I was drinking over 4 litres of water. LOL
Best of luck with the Optifast stage it really is worth it!

RT,
What a time of year to be on the Optifast! I'm sure everyone has a bit of a slip up on that program, we're all human (I've tried it before, but doing it for real on 1st Jan). The calorie content is so low once you get back on track that it should only take a couple of days and you'll be back into the right mode to shrink that liver. Don't beat yourself up, just think "that was yesterday but now it's time to knuckle down". You can do it! |

Rt,
Just do your absolute best for the next 7 days and you should be fine. Make sure you drink plenty of water to flush evderything through your system over the next 3 or 4 days.
Yes some people have had repercussions for not doing the Optifast properly. I have known of people actually being operated on only to come out without a band because their liver had too much fat around it.
Do the best you can with the time you have left and try not to worry about what is done.
All the best
