Today is the first day of the rest of my life. Today I start on Optifast for 2 weeks to be banded on the 9th November. It is 11.30am and I have not had my first shake. I am keeping them for when I am hungry and as yet I am not hungry. I successfully lost 20kgs on the Tony Ferguson Diet about 2 years ago so I am not new to the low carb shake type of diet so I can not understand why I am so nervous about this next 2 weeks. I more nervous about the next 2 weeks than the surgery. I guess the risk for failing is high this time. I would hate to get to surgery and have it cancelled cos I have a fat liver ;). That is all I would need to convince myself that this is not a good idea. When I know deep in my heart it is the only hope I have of living a quality life.
Reading people's messages on this blog has helped me sort out what I am feeling. I am normal which is a great thing to feel when you are feeling every possible emotion one can feel. Happy Sad Nervous Excited.. all bundled up into one soon to be "little" person. So thank you all for being so open and honest about your feelings. |

Hi I too have just finished my first week on opti. Found the Coffee shake the best. Not too keen on anything else. I have been frying up mushrooms and asparagus in a fry pan with a little pure and simple spray and adding a little bit of garlic and soy sauce. I have also made up a big vege soup but added a little bit of curry powder to it and this is keeping me going. Good luck apparently this pre-op optifast stage is the hardest part. I haven't weighed myself on the same scales that I started with (the dieticians) but on my scales I think I have lost around 3kgs. Good luck, luv this site!

First week of Opti over and I have lost 2.8kgs. I wish I could just loose my weight on the opti - but I know without the pressure of having to stick to it because of the op - I know I wouldn't!! Hope everyone else is going well. I find the shakes filling. Veges getting very boring at night - anyone got any good recipes to make them taste different?

Hey Clare!!
Way to go girl!!! Hope all went well for you today. My turn tomorrow!!! I've lost just over 4 kg's on the Optifast and surgeon was happy with that today when I went in for pre-surgery consult. I think I didn't lose as much this week because the dreaded period is due!!! No doubt it will come tomorrow!! Thinking of you girl, see you on the Oct '09 thread!!
Good luck to everyone else out there on the Optifast lead up to surgery!!!
Monica :-) |

I start tomorrow on OptiFast and my dietician told me to have 1 tablespoon of Benefibre with each shake - that way I don't have constipation or wind pain.

Should have 2 tsps of benefibre in the morning, and 2 at night. Check the back of the jar or box.

Hi Diddley-Ho Clare and Everyone.....Day 9 Opti and travelling along well. Had weigh in on Wed morn at GP and lost 3.5kg which I'm very happy about!!! Not getting too excited though as my dreaded period is due next week at some stage and knowing my luck, It'll arrive on thurs when I get banded!!! So next week I'm not expecting to see much of a shift on the scales when I weigh in at GP (on wed the day before surgery). Am still addding protein to meals when I feel the need and yesterday was very hungry which was strange as for 2 days I had nothing but the shakes for all my meals as they were filling me up nicely. Today I'm just having shakes again so far as that hungry feeling I had from yesterday has passed. Went to shops on another fruit and vege run and got more strawberries and some blue berries that were on special. Don't worry too much Clare, any loss is better than none. Everyone is different love - height, weight, body frame,so weight loss will therefore be very individual. Can't wait for operation day next thurs and am becoming very excited and a wee bit scared at the same time!!! Go hard everyone and keep your eye on the prize!! LOl. Can we do it??? YES WE CAN!!!!!!!! LOL. See you all again after the weekend. Take care...Monica

Day one opti - not feeling too bad. Didn't need my lunch time shake - just ate my salad - and left my shake for the 3.00pm munchies. I have had it now - but still feeling a bit hungry - probably all in my head - must drink more water. My op is on the 30th October - seems a long way away at them moment!

LOL Clare, at the end of this journey we will both be fabulous what ever our age and it will be worth the effort. Shaking off 15 kilo has made me feel younger already. The good thing is you don't have to reach the finish line to win the prize, there are rewards every step of the way. If Opti is the price then I'm willing to pay. Warm wishes, Mack

Hey Mack, Middle aged Ha! Isn't 50 the new 40 now? I'm 42 (but must be the new 32) and need to lose 50 kilos. This will apparently lower my 'medical age' perhaps another 10 years off? That takes me to 22... and if you laugh like Basil Brush, often, this will also keep us young so perhaps by the end of it all, I'll be 12!!!!

You make me laugh Clare, I'm old and crabby! Well, middle ages anyway and I have another 40 kg to shift. You can have calorie free drinks and jelly, as much as you like. Learn to like Miso soup, it will save your sanity.

Hideho Monica, Mack and everyone else. Hey Monica on Sunday I could've ripped the heads off my whole family (and anyone else I came into contact with)! I wish they would all stop offering me food though! I say, enjoy that extra protein baby and stay sane. Also Ice and strawberries blended into the strawberry shakes, mmmmm soooo good!
Does anyone out there drink diet soft drink and cordial? Is it allowed? I think it is!
Hi Mack. I need to do the 30 minute walk every day and believe me I will now stay on track. My 1 kilo loss was quite depressing but am over it now and can't wait until next Wed (21st) it's so close. Yippee. You sound strong and determined...more power to you.
Keep going everyone, our goals are obtainable. Mine may take longer than others, but hey, time is one thing I've got!!!(Haha).
