Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Thanks P,
This is now day 8 and I've already lost 6 kgs. Nowhere near as hungry as last week, don't know whether it's because I'm getting used to no food or my stomach is shrinking.
32 days to go.

Pyretta
The passata sauce is in the pasta sauce section at coles or safeway in a longer bottle.

Cheers

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
go bananas Pyretta

it's the italian style made tomato sauce which is already pureed, for sale about 2 bucks a jar in the supermarkets. if you can get a low salt version, this is always better seeing that a high sat diet tends to hold on to an extra fluid in your body, well, it does in my case anyway.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Karen,

Thank you for the spicy soup recipe.

Can I ask, is the tomato passata a tomato, sauce/concentrate that you buy at the supermarket? I haven't heard of it before and would you mind if the recipe was posted on the recipe's thread? I'm sure a lot of bandits would like it as well.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
spicy tomato soup

in a pot, lightly toast the following
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried fenugreek
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon tumeric
1/2 teasppon black mustard seeds
a pinch of chilli powder
warm it till the spices start to smell good- stay close becos you dont want the spices to burn.
take the pot off the heat and add
1 sliced clove of garlic
1 tablespoon red lentils
1/2 teaspoon coconut essence
4 curry leaves
1 teaspoon oil
stir off the heat for one minute to let residual heat help to amalgamate the flavours
add 1 700 ml tomato passata and rinse out bottle with 2 cups of water,
slowly bring to the simmer, for 20 minutes,
strain, season, drink
add freshly cracked black pepper and a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice
this would be nic with some youghurt- if we were allowed some!
x k

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi optislimmers,

I have been busy otherwise distracting myself this weekend,
and I'm glad I asked about the last meal thing. i had friends arrive to sydney for the week. I had to explain what I was doing this week sseing that i am their tour guide. but dinner time... in surry hill, actually got a table at bistrode (a very very good restaurant) and ordered the trout salad with watercress- it was an entree size, and i ate it all, was truely delish, lucky my guests are light eaters- they had entree's then a beautifl rhubarb crumble with proper creme anglaise and i resisted the lot. sorry, shouldnt be posting this in here.
anyway, knowing i only have 4 days to go, and the may 15th bandits all doing well is great news,
next comes the spicy tomato soup

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Elizabeth,

hang in there. Have you got some diet Jelly made up in the fridge? That would really help.

Just keep drinking to try and feel fuller.

You CAN do this.

Jentallie,

I had the raspberry for the vanilla and also used to put a dash of cinnamon in the vanilla at times as well.

I have bought the sugar free da vinci syrups in caramel (for the vanilla shake) and hazelnut for the chocolate shake. Makes them almost paletable

Karen,

Maybe you'd like to post the recipe for the tomato soup for the others here who need a nice savoury fix?

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
emma,

Optifast and Optislim are not the same products, you do differ in their protein and carb content which is vital when it comes to the pre op diet.

Yes Optislim is almost half the price (you have to ask why if the nutritional values are suppose to be the same?) but you are only on it for a limited time and when you think about it, Optifast is still good value when you consider it's every meal for the week.

Check with your surgeons team before using anything other than what they have specified.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi Bandists and to be bandits, finally home to say hello, 5 more days for me, and today went well. yummy tomato soup with heaps of indian spices, felt like i had had a delish indian poppadum meal- yum!

Hi Emmalouise, best bet to check with your dietician/surgeon. calories/protien/carbs are different. i've never had optislim, but i find opti fast good to deal with and the bars and shakes fill me up because of their high protien content

cheers, k

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi, just wondering if you know if you are allowed to have optislim instead of optifast, they seem to be very similar in formula. I'm due to start on Monday and I can get a better deal with optislim.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Elizabeth,

I have just read your food diary and am wondering why you are having only 2 opti products a day? Is this something you and your dietitian have worked out? Just curious becasue of the risk of slipping into starvation mode.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Day 4 of Optifast and I am feeling fine, in fact I am cruising....Only problem is I can't drink the amount of water I should..

DAY 1 - Choc Shake for breakfast with 2 strawberry, Lunch was 1 Choc Shake and 3 strawberries, Dinner was bowl of allowed veg (no more than 2 cups)

DAY 2 - Choc Shake for breakfast with 1 strawberry, Lunch was 1 Choc Shake and 4 strawberries, Dinner was bowl of allowed veg (no more than 2 cups and a variation in veg)

DAY 3 - Choc Shake for breakfast with 5 strawberry, Lunch was 1 Coffee Bar and Water, Dinner time I was out and only veg I could get was peas and corn and carrots, so ate about a cupful and had 2 glasses of water

DAY 4 - Coffee Shake for breakfast with 3 strawberries (Yummo)

I am on a high and hoping it continues.

I wish my fellow bandits good luck with their optifast routines and success for us all.

Regards, Elizabeth in Uralla
