Minimisingme,
I had this problem during the entire opti and liquid phase. I think perhaps some people's bodies just cope in this way. For me - whenever it's liquid in, it's liquid out! Try Karen's suggestions, but all said and done, you may just have to wait for the problem to settle until you go onto mushies.

I dont think the veggies is the problem because I have been snacking on raw carrots and snow peas and have a big pot of veggie stew with eggplant mushrooms tomato onion garlic and oregano I have had three cups of total.
Ive been eating super healthy for the last two weeks except one naughty lunch of yum cha.
And I do always drink alot of water.
I think its actually the opti itself but I found my brochure and it does say it should be transient so Im keeping my fingers crossed!
Thanks for your help Karen, I am going to give the asian greens a go tomorrow! |

it will go away,
but you have to remember you are putting different things in your body now, and so your tummy/digestive system is woking it out. try to add green vegies high in fibre- i find the asian greens like gai lan, bok choy, baby spinach and shredded cabbage cooked into a soupy broth with garlic ginger and chilli works well. you need to bulk up with fibre before hand to make the after part easier- preventing constipation!
need any more ideas, check the recipe thred, or ask me, happy to help- chef here with too many recipes to mention! |

Ok there is no way to ask this and remain nice and Ive tried very hard to find some reference here but couldnt soooo Im just going to say it
diahorrea?
Day two of opti and ive been a model patient and had my water and allowed veggies but I had a bad dizzy spell after a bath and now I have the runs.
Did anyone else have this problem?
Do you think it will it go away like the headaches? |

Lauren, here is your quick tomato soup recipe
In a medium sized saucepan
1 x 3 second spray of oil
1 diced onion
1 clove garlic
1 unpeeled but washed medium sized carrot
either 6 fresh tomatoes or 1 can low salt tomatoes(plain)
1 tablespoon rice (only!-any kind)
1 teaspoon ground cumin
heat gently low heat for 4-5 mins to saute, then add 2 litres water and a stock cube-vegie or chicken.
I think premade bought stock is awful-either make your own or use massel brand.
simmer for 20 mins, turn off heat and let cool slightly
add a handful of parsley and whizz with a hand blender, pour through a sieve, season and reheat to serve
cheers

Lauren,
ready made tomato soup isn't supposed to be drunk while on Optifast because of the amount of carbs in it :( You could try and make one using lots of tomatoes and the allowed veg. Good luck with it.

Lauren,
This was at the bottom of this page:
spicy tomato soup
in a pot, lightly toast the following
1/2 teaspoon cumin
1/2 teaspoon dried fenugreek
1/2 teaspoon ground coriander
1/2 teaspoon tumeric
1/2 teaspoon black mustard seeds
a pinch of chilli powder
warm it till the spices start to smell good- stay close because you dont want the spices to burn.
take the pot off the heat and add
1 sliced clove of garlic
1 tablespoon red lentils
1/2 teaspoon coconut essence
4 curry leaves
1 teaspoon oil
stir off the heat for one minute to let residual heat help to amalgamate the flavours
add 1 700 ml tomato passata and rinse out bottle with 2 cups of water,
slowly bring to the simmer, for 20 minutes,
strain, season, drink
add freshly cracked black pepper and a squeeze of fresh lemon or lime juice
this would be nice with some youghurt- if we were allowed some!
x k |

I made a nice soup (which I have frozen in 2 cup portions and this recipe makes a lot!)
I used -
1 Leek - washed and chopped
1 Onion
2 stalks of celery
a few carrots
half a cauliflower
some broccoli
1 package of frozen spinach
2 large tins of chopped tomato
Veggie stock powder
Chilli
Tomato paste
We just cooked up the leek and onion and added all the other veggies (chopped up) with the tins of tomato and water to cover. A few spoons of stock powder, a tablespoon of tomato paste and half a teaspoon of chilli paste. Let it slowly boil until veggies are tender. This is really yummy as a chunky soup, but if I had a blender I would probably blend some up to have a different consistancy.
Turned out really yum! |

Hi Kate,
I feel fabulous now thanks and I am just over 20kgs lighter I have 3 more days on liquids and have been using the optifast to get enough nutrition in over the last few days. As for coffee I used this instead of coke or diet coke over the opti stage so that i could break my soft drink habit, I gave it all up a few days before the surgery. Keep at it, opti is your friend over the next few weeks :) Carolyn. |

Thanks so much!
How are you feeling on day 11 after your surgery? I'm crossing each optifast day off on a sheet on my wall. A big red cross at the end of each day lol
Another question, are you allowed to drink coffee? (no milk of course) |

Hi Kate,
I am day 11 post surgery and I was on the optifast for 3 weeks prior to surgery, I fully understand how you feel and yesterday I hated liquids with a passsion, thankfully I got to talk to a number of people on here and I fought through the urges to blow it all, I figure its only for a short time and if you can count down day by day you do know there is an end in sight. I started using the soups regularly and found these helped me to keep on track, u can try making your vegies into a soup too which is generally more satisfying if you dont have the urge to chew, stick with it you have done a great job over the last three days and it will get easier. Good luck. |

Thanks for the advice! It's only day 3 though so I have the feeling that it will get a lot harder as the days go on lol
Knowing that other people have struggled through it helps a lot though! |

Hey Miss Katie, you're doing very well if the only thing you have cheated with is an extra cup of vegies. Lots of afternoons I found my self absolutely desperate for peanut butter in rice crackers so I did. I am still alive.(day 7 post op).Do your best and no guilts..

Just a quick question for everyone on opti, in the first few days (I'm starting day 3, which feels like day 53 lol) did you get very hungry in the afternoon and a bit light headed?
I went to the hairdressers yesterday and was in a daze for about 2 hours.
I cheated a bit yesterday when I got home, I had an extra cup of (allowed) veggies, which I felt bad about, then felt weird because I was feeling guilty about a cup of veggies! haha |

I am so sorry that has happened to you, very unprofessional to cancel so close to surgery, he should have at least worked through the people he had on his list.

| Ive taken my date off the list, got a call from my surgeons office, my surgery has been CANCELLED, not postponed...cancelled! Mr Arthur apparantly is not doing lap band surgery any more, so all my preparations and 4 weeks of optifast have left me in limbo and extremely disapointed |
