Lauren
Well done on sticking to Optifast for 7 weeks, it is hard but I found once I got into the routine it was easier. |

I thought i might post a message here,to give those ppl who might be struggling a bit a little bit of encouragement and tell you my experience.
I started opitfast 4 weeks earlier than my surgeon told me to and i put in 100% did not cheat AT all, except for the night before my surgery i had a tiny treat (some chocolate) not a lot though,so all up i did 7 weeks of optifast,i lost 20kg,which made me feel fabulous and healthy, but more importantly after my surgery last Saturday, having that little bit of a step in front of myself has made my recovery SO much more easier than when i had my band (recently had the gastric sleeve)
i could 100% feel the difference it made while in hospital and now that i'm home from the hospital doing the optifast has really paid off :)
stick to it guys, the pay off after the surgery is SO worth it....
all the best everyone,i know how hard it is!

Hi all, I have my new surgery date, July 20th, with Mr Chan at Maryvale pvt, Morwell.
I was meant to be done June 2nd but my surgery was cancelled. I had done nearly 5 weeks of opti and lost nearly 12 kgs, when it was cancelled, I lost the plot a bit and put 2kgs back on, but now I can get focused again and back onto opti. |

| I too found the chocolate, yucky. Try adding some instant coffee to it. Tastes just like mocha.Hope it helps, or that the horrid taste goes away. I'm due for banding in 22 days, but heck, who's counting, lol. ( me thats who), I'm terrified |

Miss bee,
Sounds like you are doing well. Stick with it and you'll be banded before you know it.

Hi all. This is my first post ever! Day 4 for me and going strong. I was petrified that I would stave but have been only very mildly hungry, had no headaches or any other early effects.
Due to be banded on 29th July at Warringal and am counting down the days. |

Panna,
Lipstick is definitely a new description of the flavour so I'm afraid it may just be you. Try adding some peppermint or other essence to it to help change the flavour and add extra water if you are finding it a bit thick.

Good on you, creature_2484, see the scales are on the move again :) Just keep on keeping on :)
We are all different, and it also depends on how much we have to lose. A person needing to lose 100kg is going to lose more at the start than a person needing to lose 50kg. I started at 105kg and have total 45 to lose to be in normal range. |

Hi all,
I was banded in March and am currently 10 kgs down and still going. I've really had no problems at all but I bought a heap of Optifast shakes thinking I would continue to use them post banding but my doctor doesn't want me to as they pass through the band too quickly. So if anyone is in the market for some bargain priced ($2/sachet plus postage) Coffee and Strawberry flavoured shakes please get in touch.
Best wishes to all on your band journey.

Hey Qui, thanks for your support! I guess the thing about this site is that you become aware of everybody elses successes on opti fast* like losing 19 kgs in 3 weeks!!!
However im officially 2.7 kg down this morning which is nearly 3 kg in a week so in any other circumstance I would be thrilled!
I am super glad i decided to do opti over 4 weeks instead of 2- means come surgery day if this continues I will be 10-12 kg down :)
Thanks everyone |

Hello creature_2484
Yes I lost 20kgs on Optifast some time back, but I am finding it more difficult to stick to it now. I have lost 4kgs since I started a couple of weeks ago, but I have had normal dinners on the weekends (but trying to be careful).
Initially you would lose a lot of fluids, so therefore a good loss at the start, then I guess then fat is going, but the fluid balances back a bit, so just stick to it and you will see the scales moving down again. |

| I think 2.5kg in a week is a great loss. How long do you have to be on Optifast? |

Thanks Pyretta I will go back to eating 3 and see what happens. I also had a look at everything im using ie. diet cordial, stock, sugar free lollies etc and i have decided to cut down on them i also identified that the stock had more carbs that i thought, So its gone onto the top shelf.
I am also going to try the vanilla shakes as the strawberry seems to have alot more 'bad' stuff in it. I never really thought not eating the opti would cause a problem. Anyways i will let you know if i make any progress! |

creature,
The reason you aren't dropping weight is that your body has gone into starvation mode.
you NEED to be having 3 shakes a day for Optifast to work properly. Too little and your body goes into starvation mode and hangs onto everything that goes on your mouth.

Hey everyone, hope your opti fast battles are all going well today.
Mine is still fine, after the first few days im not hungry at all. Wind has set down alot. Im not eating much at all 1 opti shake late in the morning. 1 opti soup at about 3 pm and usually a cup of normal soup i made with my soup allowance!
However problem is, IM NOT LOSING WEIGHT!! I really dont understand its been 7 days and ive only lost 2.5kg. Normally hey i wouldnt be worried but the DR and alot of people say that how well the opti works is usually a good indicator of how well the LB will work- PANIC!
So im not really doing exercise at the moment cos im super busy studying for exams however i may try ASAP.
Also, for someone that asked about the canned tomatoes i havent been using these but i make a good curry tomato soup- 1/2 diced onion, 4 diced tomatoes, 1 tbs of oil, 1 tsp of curry powder and water or stock- Cooked and then blended!
Its not bad - try it with good curry powder!
If anyone has any suggestions about getting the weight to drop quicker let me know
Bye Bye |

| I bought the Optifast Bars as I ran out at work, and could only find them at the Chemist. I must say they are not nearly as satisfying as the shakes (and sickly sweet), and also I notice they are much higher in energy. The chemist only had one type and they are coated in chocolate, I am not a chocolate fan at all, so I am not enjoying the bars at all. I will just use them if I run out of shakes. On the pack it says you can exchange one bar for one shake, but if using bars only (3 per day), then the energy intake would be almost as using 4 shakes. |

| I had diet cordial, and also tinned tomatoes. Basically stay away from the carbs, low joule jelly was ok with my surgeon, so I dont see why the corial is any different. Some doctors differ with the strictness of the diet, so maybe just give the nurse a call and check. Anything that gets you through the optifast without a major incident is a goer!!! Good luck. |

Hi Everyone,
I was wondering if anyone knows if you can have diet cordial? My Dr said I could have no calorie drinks but Im not sure if this means I can have it or not??
Also tinned diced tomatoes?....getting really sick of the veg and came across a nice soup, but it has a tin of diced tomatoes in it..... guess it's not as bad as eating a whopper with cheese...which is what I really feel like!!! :) |
