Yes its so hard everything smells good when cooking for the huz and my little bubz and u know hw you need to taste it to check if everything tastes right? lol Ok so i do!
As for the soup yep i bought like three packets only to discover they are nasty! At the moment i will only drink coffee and strawberry shakes ! They are just tolerable for me chocolate anything in that range i wont touch there terrible but btw great effort thats heaps of weight lost!
Pyretta- followed your advice have dropped the extra 2.5 i put on and im just a few points under my starting weight not very good but better than nothing! |

Hi Soon,
That would be so hard at home all day...the temptation would be too great for me I think!!
On day 3 I hadnt lost anything...but by about day 6 I had lost 5kg...so hang in there!!!
The caffine free diet coke is a little hard to find sometimes, I find Coles seem to have it most of the time tho....also I have just found this brand called waterfords...they have a YUMMY diet lemon, lime and bitters... I know they have a couple of other flavours too but I havent tried them yet....I get that from Woolies.
Thanks for the heads up on the soup... I think I will stick to making my own. Bit expensive to buy a whole pack and find you dont like it! How r u finding the shakes? Im not too keen on the choc and havent tried the vanilla yet. |

Hey charmainenessi i am feeling very similar except im at home all day with my daughter lol so im close to nice food! But as Pyretta said it seems most peoples hunger settles around or after the end of the first week so keep up the good work im waiting for that time to come and I know the band will be there to make us feel fuller on a smaller amount of food so just wait till after and see how you feel. You are doing great! I started doing a diary on the optifast site today to try and keep myself motivated as im getting a little stuck! I also found going for little walks helps keep the hunger at bay sometimes lol.
bellaboofhead Congratts with the weight loss! I am yet to lose any and am nearing day 3! I bought three bottles of coke cause it was on special we dont usually drink fizzies lol and i thought that would be a nice treat while im fasting and cooking everyone else nice yummy food also considering how much i love a coffee hit too! Caffiene free coke? tell me more! I havent seen any around. Personally i think the soups are terrible better if you make some with the allowed vegies and a bit of stock!
miss.bee76 Sorry should of been clearer I was talking about the lists that come in the opti boxes for example some say all diet drinks and lite salt and some say no caffiene no coke and dont list the salt etc.. lol its confusing |

Charma,
You will find that the hunger will soon settle and you will actually get to the stage where you don't feel like food at all. I never believed it before banding but I am here to tell you it's true.
You should even be over the pre op hunger in the next few days. Just look out for the head hunger, that's the worst!

Soon,
I was addicted to diet coke before I started Opti. I found if I fill a water bottle up with diet cordial I dont feeling like Im missing out!! But if Im really craving it I have a caffine free diet coke.
How does everyone feel about the soups?? Ive heard lots of bad things about how they taste and now Im not sure if I should buy them or just stick to my homemade soup.
Weighed today and am down 9kgs in 3 weeks....gotta be happy with that!! :) |

Hi Everyone, Call me Charma. I'm a first timer.
My lap band date is set for the 9/07/2009, so just under 3 weeks from now. I started the Optifast diet on Thursday, and it has been the longest 4 days of my life. It is working, I have already lost 4kg, but my god, i am soooo hungry that i am depressed. Days aren't too bad cause i keep myself busy at work, (i work in retail so i work weekends too), but nights are so bad. I get hungry around 5pm and i just want to cry and cry and cry. I drink that much water during the day that i feel as if my eye balls are floating. I can tell that this is going to be the longest 3 weeks of my life. If i'm like this now, it really scares me to think what i will be like when the op is done. |

Soon,
Make sure you are drinking the water. It really helps the kilos come off while on Opti.

| Soontobe I asked my dietician why no coke or coffee because I was a coke addict and she said the caffeine makes you hungrier and therefore makes it harder to stay on the opti. I gave up cold turkey and dont even feel like a glass now. |

JB,
I think some multivitamin may be in order for you. contact your dietitian or surgeon and see what they suggest. If the flu is still bad you may have your op postponed.

Soon,
If you aren't allowed caffeine then no coke zero for you I'm afraid. Again it is one of those things that each surgeon differs with so if in doubt give your surgeon's team a ring and ask.

Hi guys,
Does anyone know if it is reasonable to remain strictly on Optifast if you contract the flu?
I have it quite badly and i am concerned that by not giving my body the immediate energy it needs, i am not allowing myself to get better in time for my surgery on Thursday.
Should i stick to it? Or should i have one meal to try and boost my energy levels to fight the flu??
Thanks for any advice :)

soon2bbanded, what list are you talking about? The list on the optifast website doesn't list coke products and the list given to me by my team says that I can have tea and coffee, therefore caffeine.
I realized yesterday that I have not had any soft drink over the past week, since I started opti. And I havn't missed it! Admittedly I used to drink caffine free diet coke or pepsi because I was breastfeeding. But I have not missed it and have suffered no withdrawal headaches either.
Today is day 6 for me and I really have to day how easy I have found being on opti. I have suffered very little hunger. Before I started, these 2 weeks of opti were more frightening than getting the band. I thought I was going to starve considering the amount of food I used to consume.
I am still counting down the days though. |

Rayls I would also recommend being really creative with you allowance vegies- once you get past the headache/hunger stage the only problem with Opti is that its boring. I have also found the chicken soups great!
For everyone else im officially down 4.5 kgs and when on Monday i jump on the scales after two weeks im on track to be 5 kg own !! I started walking each day and the weight has dropped alot quicker!! Officially only 16 days until my surgery!! |

rayls2, the first few days are the worst with being hungry and wanting to eat, but then for me days 3 and 4 as I got such a huge headache, I presume everyone gets this headache, but just be prepared with some headache pills and drink plenty of water. Once over that, you should start feeling really good, and it gets easier. But don't be tempted to cheat as you then never really get into it properly. It is important to drink a lot of water, this also helps with the hunger, and also to have the allowed vegetables. I usully have mine at night.
I am on Optifast now, but as I started in May and my op is not until end of July, I have not stuck to it properly (had meals on the weekends etc), so therefore I have not got to the "feel good" stage. My own fault I know, but I am sticking to it most of the time and I have lost up to this morning 5.6kgs. When it gets to 3 weeks before op I will stick to it 100% until the operation as this is what I was supposed to do. Good luck, if I could suggest one thing, don't start on a Monday, start on a Thursday so that the really rotten days are on the weekend (that is if you work full time). |
