If you are still awake Kez munch on a carrot... that might help. It helped me pre-op.

Hi Teepee,

Can really relate. I'm struggling at the tonight. I'm so tempted to eat something yummy and I've only been on opti for 8 days. I even weant to bed early to get rid of the hunger pangs. Woke up though and now....I'm HUNGRY again!!
Oh it's hard work. Can't wait for the op now.

Hang in there.

Sorry teepee you're having a bad day, but well done for not being tempted to eat - it could have been easy to do but you had the strength to stay off.
We have to look after ourself with difficult decisions all for the good hey. I went to a school formal and there were lots of nice food and I had to walk passed it all and nibble bits off my optibar!!!! But I did feel good I didn't give in.
Hope you feel better soon.

Having a bad day today.

I had to leave my sisters party tonight as she had so much yummy food there and I didnt want to give into temptation.

I'm feeling so antisocial even though I had a subway salad and Opti dessert to fill me up.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Was so excited to re-read my allowed fruits and Vegetables page to see that I was allowed a cup of green vegetables and a dash of soy or Worcestershire sauce. So I cooked up a cup of brussel sprouts, I served them in two separate bowls and put the sauces on them. It was really quite yummy (and got rid of my dimsim cravings.)

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
juliet i dont think anyone here is an expert and neither do we need to be, however if we can share our journeys with like minded people, our hurts, joys and fears then these boards are doing what they are intended for, not everyone has the same opinion and i dont agree with everything i read either but we take what we need and leave the other stuff behind. keep posting, you have a lot to offer...

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Thanks I'm not an expert.. only speaking from experience.

I've just got my come-uppance on the June Bandit site for trying to be helpful.

Oh well you can't help some and as i said it was only my opinion.

A few toms and some lettuce will be fine...

Juliet,

the first glass went down a treat, will probably have another then stumble into bed before the munchies come.. am so tired and fighting off a cold (not good 4 days out from op) i dont think i could possibly eat 6 carrots and isnt there some rumor that your skin will go orange??? lol

maybe cherry tomatoes and lettuce *all nice and crunchy* i think its the chewing thing that i miss the most but i suppose i have whole lifetime of chewing to look forward too *cough cough*

your advice is much appreciated

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
10 chips will be fine, no damage done. No fruit very high in carbs. bananas have 23.7 and a small orange 16.3. To stay in ketosis you should be around 40-50 a day and there is already about 45 in 3 optis.

Only one medium carrot not 6... lol

Don't drink too much though.. it wont take you out of ketosis but will lessen your ability to make good food choices.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
thanks for that juliet

i have wine in hand but have put chips back in packet, dont think 10 chips will have done too much damage, havent eaten any carbs for 2 weeks, i will take your advice and peel a carrot, do you think a banana and orange would be ok?

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
If you have to break opti dont for goodness sake eat carbs, You will be back to square 1 tomorrow. Have the wine if you have to that will still keep you in ketosis. If you have to munch have a carrot or some celery or even some lean protein. Tin of tuna.. just no carbs that is very important.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Day 14 over...4 days to go!

Today went well, had my three shakes and a nice rocket salad for lunch, but tonight im hanging for junk...i bought a packet of cheese and onion crisps and have eaten about 10 chips, hanging out for wine so will have a small glass, i really feel the need to do this tonight - very busy week at work and all that..i figure that i have stuck to the opti for 14 days with no major blowouts, i have lost over 5kg (woopeee) and just need to do this tonight. <sounds to me like im asking permission> anyway some of you wont agree with this but i am up for another 4 weeks before i can eat anything sort of normal and need one last hurrah!

Is it really that bad???

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Anyone doing Opti. tried the Oasis club for Optifast users? It's on their official site.
They have a fantastic food and exercise tracker - calculates your calories for the day and then subtracts your exercise - does all the work for you. I'd recommend it, and I'm going to use it for the 6 weeks I do Opti.
Cheers
Jo.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Hi all, been off line for a few days. It's inspiring to read about you people who are doing opti to lose weight rather than because you have a date to be banded. I don't know if I could do it. I've been on opti for 6 days now and have lost 5.2kg....yippeeeee! Mind you, I'm not straying from the regime. It's so hard and by night time I feel like I'm losing the plot with everyone else in the house having their main meal and all I can have is a few vegies and a shake despite being starving hungry. But the weight loss is great. And I now have a pair of slightly baggy jeans!! So that's a motivation.

Anyway, it's all you lot that keep me going. You all understand what it's like to go through this phase.

Catcha, Kez.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Teepee, I can relate to you completely. For me food is like heroin, But especially fatty food. If I get into a Kentucky fried, meat pie or takeout stage, Im done. I also love cheese. Im not a grazer, I dont eat all day but when I get into an eating phase I eat more of the wrong stuff and then go through the guilts afterwards. I know its stupid but it keeps happening, If Im depressed I hit chocolate or chips. Yet when Im on a structured diet and stick to it Im mentally feeling good even with the hunger pangs.

In about six weeks I have to go away with a group of people in a club Im involved with, all the meals are supplied and it actually scares me to eat normally for just two days. Why? Because I find it hard to get psyched back into the diet. Everytime Ive lost weight I seem to regain it. Some years ago I lost 48 kilos in 4 months, I only kept it off for 1 year. I know how it feels to feel good about yourself when you have lost weight, I just want to get back there again, this is the reason I want to eventually get the lapband as some sort of control for my habits

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Way to go! End of day 13 for me...

so the opti is consuming my life, went shopping at lunchtime today and oogled all the beautiful dresses im going to buy when im slim...one lady has a 'little black dress' on her webpage she is aspiring to and i also like that idea so have been looking for one also..so back to the opti - i had my shake before i went but have been struggling the last few days (not that i have really eaten anything naughty but the brain is telling me too - you know the angel on one shoulder and the devil on the other thing?

sorry to digress...so the opti, walking around the shops i wanted to eat something, anything didnt really care what and i decided i was having something! so walked through the foodcourt trying to decide what would do the least damage (after all i was on a mission) and after procratstinating for about 10 minutes decided i didnt want anything and kept on shopping....now that IS a miracle!

so the opti is working well and seeing the results such as baggy bum in workpants, skirt goes over hips without undoing zipper, absolutely amazing stuff when on ww it would take me 3 months to lose the same amount.

so enough of my chatter, just wanted to share..

H.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Just wanted to say good luck to the Opti's, I am thrilled to be Banded and away from it. It was great to hear my surgeon tell me that I'd obviously given Opti a good crack, as my liver was a lot better than some people he's done who are thinner than me.

It sets you up well for the next stage, and having homemade soup after the Op is amazing!

Canada and the U.S.

Plus part of the trip is a cruise and I want to be able to at least wear board shorts and singlet around the pool.

I'm not actually getting banded.

I put myself onto Opti because I have gained so much weight this last year and I'm off overseas soon and none of my clothes fit.

Re:Optifast Stage Reply to this message
Thanks for that, you're doing a brilliant job. Are you still waiting to be banded? You might find that after you are, your need for binge eating decreases - won't be much fun if you're pb'ing or things are getting stuck.
All the best,
Jo.

Hi Impish,

I've lost 8.2 kilos so far.

I found I had a big loss the first week and then smaller but consecutive losses each week after.
