I only like the vanilla, and I don;t mind how it comes. At work I shake with a shaker, at home I use the bamix and it it really nice and thick. Went off yesterday as I have had a migraine, and had a banana with my tablets, I did the same this morning, but today is day 3 so headache should go away today. Other than that, doing fine, damage from my grandson's christeninig lunch was not so bad, I am still down on the scales a little. Nearly 9kgs down from mid May, so I am happy with that. Hope to get rid of another kilo or so before op.
Hope everyone else are doing fine. |

Hi
The strawberry shakes are too sweet for me but the choc and vanilla are fine - skulling is the best way for me - straight down the hatch. I absolutely hate the chicken soup, blahhhhhh......
Goodluck to everyone on Opti at the moment.

Hey Guys
I have just started my opti on wednesday and have found that i love the strawberry and vanilla but didnt mind the chocolate. The Key is to make sure that the water is cold, it makes all the difference.

Hi Everyone
My op is scheduled for 31 July. I start Optifast tomorrow. At this stage I am quite looking forward to it (hoping that I am one of the lucky ones who actually don't mind the taste of it). I think I'll be ok because my surgeon actually allows me a small piece of lean chicken breast or one piece of fish per day as well as steamed vegies, low fat soup and 1 piece of fruit each day. Surely I can manage with that for two weeks (can't I).
Wishing everyone the best of luck with their journeys.

Hi lmpea,
I'm glad you're finding some success with the bars. I am on day 13 of Optifast now. I have cheated a couple of times and have been very dissapointed in myself. I just miss food so much. Like you, my mum is also doing this with me for encouragement which is great. Not long to go now. Where are you having yours done? I'm going to Wagga. |

| I just had to put my two cents in and say, I like the Optifast shakes (chocolate the best). I find that if you put one in the freezer about 30 minutes before you drink, it's thicker and has more of a shake texture, just don't let them freeze solid. |

Hi Jabbarools
I would just ask the dietican It may not be a problem but best to check.
Thanks for the tips Cozzie. I agree that the bars are much more filling I have avoided the shake today cause it really doesnt make me feel to good my mum and dad are trying to do the optifast along with me as encouragement which is great so I swaped some of there choc shakes for a vanilla one so I will try it tomorrow and see how I go.
Hope everyones had/having a good week
12 days to go and counting. |

Hello all,
I am a label reader and i have noticed that there is almost the exact amount of KJ's, FAT, SODIUM, VITAMENS etc in Optifast and Tony Ferguson as is in UP and GO. I have 4 weeks to my operation. And i want to start liquid asap. The main reasons is for ease and convenience and price(about $1.70each at coles in 6 pack of just grabbing three popper packs on the way to work.
I see the dietican in two weeks do you think this will be a issue?? |

Hi lmpea,
Battle though it, if I can you can!! It will get easier. I dont find the shakes all that filling so I normally have one with my dinner of stirfried tomatoes, zucchini, onion, mushroom and soy sauce. For brekky and lunch I normally have the bars as they are more satisfying...try it
Its good to know I have someone being banded on the same day as me..good luck :) |

I am glad you are feeling so positive. 8.3kg is a great start and you are right "it is amazing how even the smallest loss can make you feel better"
Keep up the positive spirit.

I am not on day 5 of Optifast (plus 2 cups of vegies) as my pre surgery diet, and I am feeling great. 2 and a bit weeks to go... cannot believe how quickly the time has gone. I stated Optifast "most of the time" in May, but have had meals with family and friends occasionally. To date I have lost 8.3kgs, and it is amazing how even the smallest loss can make you feel better. Cannot wait to get the rest of my excess off, I think I will be able to climb mountains then... :) I feel so good at the moment, I think it is the knowledge that I am getting help with my weight problem, and that what I am doing now is not going to be short term.
I hope all of you feel the same, I am in such a good mood today, so I hope that I could pass some of that over to you all. |

july22,
I am glad the Sustagen is working for you and you were permitted to use it but for everyone else reading this PLEASE check with your surgical team before substituting Optifast with any other regime. Some surgeons are very strict on what pre op preparation they want their patients to stick to.

Hi Guys. I posted this in the july bandits section, but I wanted to add it here too.
To those on Optifast or soon to start, I have now been on it for 6 full days and I have to say I am not minding it. My dietitian gave me the option of having Sustagen Hospital Formula. I bought that because my mum works in a chemist and they don't sell optifast. The first few were not the best, but now I quite like it. The trick is that you need to use really, really COLD water. I have also been putting in some ice cubes. I shake it up in one of my sons drink bottles, but today I bought a proper shaker that I can mix in and then drink. I almost look forward to it. So I would suggest to anyone who is having a problem with the Opti to try Sustagen. I have choc flavor, but it also comes in vanilla. I have also been reading about peoples troubles with constipation. My dietitian recommended Fibresure. It is clear, tasteless and can be added to everything. I had it in my shake tonight and it made absolutely no difference to the taste of the shake. Off to the psychologist tomorrow . . . very worried about never being allowed to leave! ! ha-ha! |

Hi Cozzie
I am having my op on the 27th also and I started optifast today. I am hungry I had the shake for breakfast and I really struggled with it but managed to get it down . I have just had the soup for lunch and didnt mind that at all but still am hungry.I take motivation in know that if I can battle on thru this week next week should be easier especialy if I see results on the scales. |

Hi all,
I am in my second week of Optifast. I have to do it for 3 weeks cause I have alot of weight to lose. I found the first day the hardest and it got a little easier after that. The second week definately feels easier than the first and I am hoping my third weeks will be even easier.
I am having my band on 27th July 09 and cannot wait. I have been living on soups, bars and shakes and have lost 8kg in my first week. I have had sore muscles and weakness but the dietician says its from the rapid weightloss. Cant wait to eat normal food again!! |

Hi Kelly,
The hunger does subside strangly enough, I'm not all that hungry now at all, but I am just craving the taste of things when I see others eat it and I would like the feeling of chewy on something like meat! But I think the nerves are helping with not being hungry.
Well 2 more sleeps to go!

| I visited my surgeon yesterday i had butterflies in my tummy doing so, i didin'nt know what the finally appointment was going to be like.Well it was all over in just 4 min. I left his office scratching my head because he told me that i don't need to have optifast prior to surgery, i asked was about my liver and he said it was fine. I did'nt have any test prior and only thing he did was squeeze my tummy (was that enough to tell ???) despite what he said i am going to start optifast on Monday it has to help surely. 13 SLEEPS TO GO UNTIL MY OP. elle812, that is amazing, and definitely something we want to hear just now. Your success is very uplifting and makes me hope that I can get at least near goal. Well done.
I am one of the fortunate ones that actually like Optifast, but only the vanilla flavour. I don't like chocolate at all (which is lucky for me), and I have tried the bars (or one type) and found it far too sweet and gritty, so I have just gone back to Vanilla shakes.
I started using Optifast "most of the time" mid May, but have had a few celebrations inbetween, so have not used it the way it is ment to, but I have lost 7kg in that time, so I am pleased with that, and already feel much better by getting rid of some weight. My operation is the end of the month so as of yesterday I am on Optifast properly. I have my grandson's christening on the 18th, and I asked the doctor about that and he said it would be ok to eat at the lunch then, so that will be "my last supper". The only bad thing about that is the headache I know will come on day 3 or so, and if I am going to eat one meal, I just wonder if I will have the headache again at day 2-3 when I go back to just Optifast for the last two weeks. Or maybe my body will be adjusted to cope without carbs so one meal might not make any difference.
It is all very exciting, and I hope that I will not have any problems with the band. The hardest thing was to actually make the decision to have it done. I have been reading up on it and thinking a lot about it for a couple of years, but all along thinking "this is something I should be able to do on my own".. what a lot of rubbish, according to the stats for people trying to lose weight, it is virtually impossible to do it on our own and keep it off. I booked in for an information session, and from there on it has gone quite quickly. My family is 100% with me on this, so that is good. |

Thanks Pyretta
Was hoping that you would say 2 cups minimum..but I will survive. Would be so much easier if I actually liked the shakes...At least I will appreciate other tastes after the surgery now, even if they are runny. Its going to be a long 12 days I think. |

terra,
You aren't suppose to have more than the two cups of veggies but.... if you really feel hungry having the allowed veggies is better than splashing out on something else.

Hi
I am day 2 of opti and just hate it...would prefer to just have vegies and nothing else but hey its only a small sacrifice. I can not drink the shakes cold as they make me gag so have warmed them up which makes them bearable. Aso adding a tiny bit of vanilla essence. Are we able to have more than the 2 cups of vegies. Was not sure if 2 cups was a minimum or maximum to have. My surgery is 23 July, so so excited. At lease from now the weight is on the way down |
