Guli,

No need to apologize, I know you and others will take whatever you need from these pages and that's all that matters.

Separation can be hard, I am so fortunate that my hubby and I are rarely separated, neither of us cope very well apart.

I hope you can make it Saturday, I look forward to meeting you and a few other people I haven't met before. I think we might even try and organize a clothes swap over this way soon, but we'll discuss that at lunch.

Take care .

Pyretta,

Sorry to take so long to reply...have been in the dumps as my hubby went back to work in WA after being home for a week..it's always a bit rough for the first couple of days.

Thanks so much for your kind and, as always, sensible counselling. You really should get paid for all this advice!

I guess it just goes to show the head hunger that has been such a big factor in my life is not going to go away in a hurry. At least I was able to stop at a half a meatball!! That would never have happened before.

Again, thank you so much. I will try my best to be there on Saturday!

ciao ciao

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
guli,

I can almost guarantee that the most damage you have done is emotional. In other words your guilt is causing more damage than that meatball could.

You had no pain when it went down so you haven't dislodged anything, just make sure you try and follow the rules but most of us are human and slip up occasionally.

Stop beating yourself up and thinking the worst, I'm sure it has passed straight though, but lets not try anything else soon okay? LOL

Hi Pyretta,

Yeah, Omniopaic that must have been it. I remember the blue part, lol!

Now that i see it again, you were after a dye solution. Must have missread, sorry! I have to say i'm suprised there isn't one. It makes perfect sense doesn't it. Why not know exactly what you're going to have to do before you operate. Sometimes the medical profession weirdes me out with the choices they make ~!

Hey Pyretta,

Hope that all is well on your side of town. I am going to do my best to make it to the get together next Saturday. Would be really great to meet you and others.

Sorry to bother you but I've always found your advice to be sound so hope you don't mind!

For whatever reason (head hunger, feeling sorry for myself etc) I ate half a meatball in sauce tonight. I took tiny bites and chewed the bejeezes out of it but I'm terrified that I have caused some damage. I feel fine with no discomfort (except guilt) but am worried about what can't be seen inside my body.

Am I being irrational? I was so proud of myself; I've done everything spot on for 3 weeks now (2 weeks opti) but it was obviously a weak moment for me.

Pru,

it's going to be a terrific get together and I am glad you are coming too.

You're recovering from a major op and with everything you have been through emotionally, sleep is the best medicine. Just make sure you get your nutrition to help you heal. Multivitamins probably would be a very good idea if you're not already taking them.

Just look after yourself and you'll be back to normal soon.

kez,

I'm in the Northern Suburbs of Melbourne, being attended to by the great guys and gals at the Bariatric Centre in Windsor even though I'm a public patient banded through the Alfred.

If you can get to the gathering in Bundoora on the 18th it'd be great to meet up with you.

Kez,

Here's hoping that things will settle for you and this next week will be a good one. I hope it was just some glitch and that all the fill will still be there and you are happy with the restriction.

Anytime you need an ear and I'm around, you've got it.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Thanks Pyretta....I would have kept the appointment with the surgeon except it would have meant juggling 3 children and a committee meeting at the local kinder. I know this sounds pathetic but I was so releived when they said not to come in tomorrow. They did consult me about it and were very good. I just couldn't face driving the 30 mins to the clinic and back 3 times in 24 hours!!!!

So I have an appt for next week and if it still looks a bit sus I will make another appt with the surgeon.

Thanks for listening to me. Really appreciate it. Kez

Kez,

I hear your frustration I really do. I hope they get it sorted for you soon. I would have kept the appointment with the surgeon and had a good long talk to him anyway and let him know just how you were feeling.

Hang in there Kez, we are just off to a slow start, or a couple of false starts anyway.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Hi Pyretta....went back to the clinic today after my initial fill to get some taken out as I was in agony. I couldn't even get fluids down. And when I tried it hurt so much. Anyway, I saw another Dr who felt there probably isn't a leak as she was able to aspirate out all the fluid that was put in that morning.....or if there was a leak that it was only a slow one. I had an emergency appt to see my surgeon but that was cancelled. I have another appt in a week and we'll see if there appears to be any leakage then.

I'm so sick of the ups and downs of this. Too much fill, too little.....could be a leak...maybe not!!! Aaaggghhhh!!!

I just wanna get on with losing weight!!! Kez

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Kez,

How can they be sure it's your port that is leaking? That is my concern, I don't want to undergo another general anesthetic just to find out they haven't fixed the issue. Like you, I just want to get this journey heading in the right direction. Here's hoping that both of us will look back on this in 12 months time and laugh about how silly we were to worry.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Belly,

I'm sure you are thinking of Omniopaic (?sp) which is a thicker blue fluid that some people used to have. I was thinking more along the lines of a solution the same density of saline that could be seen under xray to find out where the leak might be. I just think it would be handy to see where the leak might be before replacing the port and finding the leak was further down.

There have been a few people over time that have had to have a few bits and pieces replaced.

Hi Pyretta,

So sad for you and your silly port :( If i remember Madonna -geez was that her name???? had to have hers replaced 3 times as well. Third time lucky! Somewhere along the line, this HAS to start going right for you!

I remember there was a thicker soultion they could use, haven't got a clue what it was called though. Someone was talking about if before i went AWOL in April. I think the idea was it was too thick to leak out ~?

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Hi Pyretta, went for my fill today. I had about 3 mls put in and boy, do I feel restriction. It is even tricky getting fluids down. But the reason for this is that it seems my port is leaking so I may have to go in to hospital to have the port replaced.....Beaut!!!!! I am having another fill next week but that is because the Dr who gave me my fill today feels that the fluid will leak out and I'll need another top up. On the brighter side...I lost .7kg this past week....don't know how considering what I have been eating!!!

I'm off to make an appointment to see my surgeon to get this leaky port fixed. I don't know that there is any fluid that would show up a leak. Would be good to know if there is coz I really don't want to go off to hospital again. I just want to get on with the weight loss.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Kez,

Let me know the outcome of your next visit, it will be interesting. I go back in two weeks to see how much is still there but can say that I already feel a lot less restricted than I did when i walked out of the surgery on Monday afternoon. I see the surgeon in three weeks and find out what he wants to do, whether it's further tests or just replace the port.

I wonder does anyone know if there is something they can use instead of saline that will show up a leak? I'm sure I have heard of something but can't for the life of me remember what it was.

Mel,

You haven't wimped out, you just know your limitations *smile* and now you'll have the little tops as well so going to the dressmaker was the better idea I think. I'd love to see a photo of it on you when it's done though.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Pyretta... I have whimped out. The dressmaker up the street is whipping it up for me. And I am glad that I took it up to her, she said I needed a longer zip than the pattern said. She is also making me up some sheer little tops to wear under sleeveless things - because I refuse to go sleeveless. These give me enough cover to feel comfortable.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Hey Pyretta...I had a similiar experience to you. They thought I had 7.2mls in my band and I still felt no restriction. When i had it aspirated there was only 3 mls there. So they gave me an extra 2mls and it has made no difference. So I'm off tomorrow to have my third fill. Hopefully this one will actually be effective.

I must say, you have been through the ringer!!! And you're still soldiering on. Good on you I say.
