Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Thanks Pru and jade,

Jade, I know it's a relatively minor procedure, they replaced a port in February this year on me, unfortunately the one the put in is faulty and it's taken this long to show itself.

At least this time I have some idea of what I am looking for in the way of restriction so I am confidant the 6ml will be a great starting point.

Hey Pyretta,
I have never had a direct discussion with you, but I have followed your amazing journey with enthusiasm, hope and interest. There have been times when I've been in awe of your will and determination; times when I've laughed with you and times when I've felt worried for you...
I am really glad to hear you are getting your shonky port replaced and I wish you every bit of success. You are an amazing source of information and inspiration. And most notably, you seem to be so supportive of others even when things arent going great for you. I am sure getting a port replaced is a relatively minor procedure and it will kickstart you in the direction of much-deserved success.

Best,
xJade

Mel,

Even if it's a bit tight I'm happy to stick with liquids for a few weeks post op anyway. Thinking it might help start the journey downwards anew.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
At least you haven't taken forever to get in, that is a blessing. Hope that all is good with your dad now. Yes, don't get an overfill, that would be horrid. 6ml should be good. You have had it for five minutes now and then, so I amsure that you will manage ok with that.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Mel,

Off to the surgeon on Thursday for the new improved port, well it's got to be better than this one! Anyway I've told him to top it up to 6ml while I'm under. I've been getting 6.5 every visit for the past 3 visits but don't want to come out of surgery with an overfill.

I'm on the morning schedule at the Avenue and should be home some time late afternoon. And don't think I'll be lapping up the attention either. I need a break after running around for my father this past week and a bit LOL.

Hi pyretta,
Glad to hear you are going in soon to get your leak sorted out. I do have a leak and so am going back in to have mine fixed in a few weeks. Interesting about the bad batch of port's. Anyway, atleast I know that I'm not to blame for my lack of weight loss! It does your head in doesn't it? Hope your op is the last!

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Thanks for the best wishes everyone and I am sorry I haven't been around much lately.

Just as an example of how hectic my life is at the moment I'll give you a run down of today.

6:30am alarm goes off
8:00am Drop dog at the vet for desexing, home for quick cuppa
8:45am ask workmen out the front to move the digger so i can take son to work and daughter to local shops (ahrg it's pension day!!)
9:30 home, breakfast of a banana and another cuppa
10:30 To my father's place to pick up his girlfriend.
11:00 visit with dad in hospital after knee replacement yesterday
12:30 assist in changing dads gown, bedding etc after he decides to move from chair to bed unaided and rips the drain from his knee.
1:30 drop dad's girlfriend back home and go to my mother in laws.
2:15 drive mother in law to doctor's appointment, wait around for ever, give cooking instructions to hubby via mobile
4:30 Back to mother in laws to pick up her dog
4:50 arrive at uni with mother in law and dog to pick up son
5:15 arrive at vet to pick up my dog and have mother in law's dog checked.
5:45 drop mother in law home
6:10 arrived home to find extra people for dinner so I settle for crackers.

Since then I've been nursing my poor drugged up dog.

So just a typical day for me lately. Off to hospital again tomorrow to see what more damage my father can cause to himself!

So pleased for you, Pyretta, that this can happen sooner rather than later.

I am keeping everything crossed for you and sincerely hope this is the last obstacle you will face. It's gotta be onwards and upwards (or downwards, depending on your perspective!) from here.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Hey Pyretta
Fantastic news about your porty being replaced so soon. I was hoping for you that it would be nice n quick :) I know it is bitter-sweet because it is your wedding anniversary - but having a shiny, new (working) port will be the best prezzie you BOTH could receive!! Mike is your rock and he's one supportive man - he should be proud of himself !! I am certain that once you get running on your journey with equipment which works properly, you will be celebrating the next anniversary together a whole-lot-lighter :)

As you know my op is Friday 7th, so I will be flying to Adelaide on the day of your surgery. I am sorry I wont be able to visit you for a pre-op giggle :( Once we are both through our ops and on the other side, we can catch up and compare scars!!

Hi Pyretta,

I've been sitting back waiting for you to post your news...thank god that it is the faulty port and not anything else that could be worse or involve more. And I'm happy that they're operating soon too, you deserve to be back on the road asap.

You keep your positive spirit woman, because nothing will break you while you have the attitude and spirit that you do. And all the best for your anniversary too, and for the op on Thursday.

The only way is up Pyretta! Love and wishes, Jo xo

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Hi Pyretta,

Glad to see they have found out your problem. 6th is only next thursday, thats quick at least!

I've noticed a few people have been having port problems lately and wondered if there was a crook batch of ports floating about. Jeez, you'd want him to pump it full of saline before he puts it in to make sure its not leaking. Especially if they know there is a bad batch runing around.

I have to admire how you manage to stay so positive and upbeat about all the setbacks you have had. You have the kind spirit of an angle my dear:)

Happy anniversary for next week, a chance to get this show on the road finally is a great present! You'll have to give hubby a present early...i'm wiggeling my eyebrows here, LOL! Hope your butt is better!

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Thanks P!xie,

I have my surgery date, I'll be operated on next Thursday, 6th November, my wedding anniversary. I'm just hoping this new port they are putting in doesn't have the same leak under pressure problems that my current one has.

With any luck hubby and I will be able to celebrate our 20th anniversary with me under 100kg! It's going to take a lot of work to get there from here but I can only hope and pray. He deserves something special after all this time especially having to spend our anniversary alone while i undergo surgery.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
I want to see Paul today about the fact that I'm loosing fluid and he stated that there were/are a batch of dodgy ports that start to leak only when they are under pressure which is why mine gradually goes down to around 3.6ml and then can keep that level.

he believes mine is one of the dodgy ones so is hoping to replace it ASAP. I should have a surgery date by the end of the week.

As for my weekend away. I had a great time even with the few accidents I had. I tripped over a log and fell backwards badly bruising my left buttock and the following day slid down a rock face hurting my right arm and left ankle. I've come home a little battered and bruised but it really didn't take anything away from the great weekend away.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Sharon,

I am glad that julie was here to answer some of your questions.

I personally know I am not ready for something like a gastric bypass, though I do know some people who were banded that couldn't be happier now they have a bypass.

I discussed a few options with my doctor when the leak was confirmed as something she said to me about bypass has really stuck. She said that although obesity has a morbidity rate, gastric bypass also has a mortality rate.

I just feel I am not ready to be "replumbed" The whole malabsorbtion thing just doesn't appeal to me as a way to loose weight.

I like the idea of the sleeve, just reducing the capacity of the stomach, and would love to know how the trials went with the very broad "band" but haven't heard anything since the initial posts about the pain most of the patients seemed to be in and my doc isn't aware of it either so I doubt it was a viable option.

I suppose it really comes down to personal preference and what each person feels will work for them.
