Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Pyretta,

Hopefully that means it is on the way to being fixed.
I hope you don't have to spend any more time in hospital.

Yes, things are okay with me thanks. More so now that I have made further plans re moving, and am on the path to settling for a while!
It is so hot here today, am looking forward to Tassie's cooler climes!

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Pru,

The infection seems to be pretty stable at the moment. The wound has closed a little more, which is good, but there is still redness around the wound and down into the area of the now port. Any form of exercise, even walking causes the whole area to swell and become uncomfortable tight, like a fluid build up and there is still the pinching/stinging when I sit.

I see Paul again tomorrow and all I can do is describe to him what I feel and it will be up to him whether I stay on the antibiotics or go into hospital.

I hope everything is going okay for you?

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Pyretta,

Yes, that was my plan too.

I'll be in Melbourne for a couple of days and will be staying out North, so will be easy for us to arrange something!

My daughter from Echuca will pick me up on the 12th from the airport, and I'll go home with her for a couple of days and to pick up my car prior to returning to Melbourne.

I look forward to seeing you again!

Prue,

I'd love to try and catch up with you while you are in Melbourne for those few days.

Stay in contact and hopefully we can arrange something before you leave up there.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Pyretta,

No, do not have much else to do in Qld at the moment!!
I'm still battling with the humidity, and don't have a lot of energy to do much at all!

The "kids" are out for the night, so thought I'd jump online while I had the chance and do some catching up.
I miss having my own computer to just hop on whenever I feel like it. I should have bought a laptop before I left Vic, but oh well, won't be too long before I'm up and running in my own place again!

Am heading to Tasmania on Dec 17th - going to Melbourne first for 5 days then doing a day trip on the ferry.
I've sailed over heaps of times but always at night, so this will be new for me.
Thought it might be nice to do in the daytime for a change. Thats my life at the moment, full of change!

No, yours has certainly not been the smoothest of journeys, but hopefully it is all on the way up!

Prue,

I can't believe you read it all the way through. Thank you for being interested enough to do that, but surely you have better things to do in Qld?!

It certainly hasn't been a smooth journey and everyone (not the least my surgeons) is now hoping the dramas are behind us and I can finally get on with the journey I started over 4 years ago!!

It's still a bit painful today and stings every time I sit down after standing, I must mention that to Paul next week.

I hope you are well and enjoying some warmer weather.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Pyretta,

I have just finished reading your entire thread.

Goodness, I had no idea of the severity of your problems with the band/port!

You poor girl, this is terrible.

I sincerely hope the infection clears up asap, and that this is the end of your problems with it all, and the beginning of it all going well for you.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Bella,

You are not bothering me at all.

What you can see/feel IS the port but there is also a lot of swelling and scar tissue around it at first, which is why it feels so hard and large. There may also still be some residual gas in there as well. You body is adjusting to having a foreign object actually sewn into a muscle.

Your body does adjust and the swelling will subside. Eventually you will feel just a small hard "knob" where your port is.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Hello Pyretta
Sorry to bother you - I am hoping you can help me again. Yesterday I took off the dressings and everything looks OK. However, under the large incision where the port is located I can feel quite a large hard area as if the whole flat part of the lap band is sitting just under the skin. For some reason I thought that I would only feel a small lump where the port sits. I hope you know what I mean.
Thank you Bella

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Corrinne,

Stop blaming yourself for the weight gain, sometimes it really does take the head a while to start working WITH the band.

I gained for nearly 14 months and only in the last few weeks, since the new port has my head finally kicked in and said you don't HAVE to finish what is on the plate and you don't NEED that snack between meals. It doesn't mean I don't still want to do it, but I am now learning to listen.

If you are having a problem with sandwiches, then switch to dry biscuits. But limit yourself to what you would have for a sandwich, so if it was 1 sandwich then it's only 2 biscuits with a filling between them and see how you go. Not everyone can do bread.

It might take a few more fills to get there, but if you are having problems with bread now then I'd say you're not far away.

Hang in the Corrine, you really are still only at the begining of your journey.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Mel,

I'm feeling pretty good, as long as I keep taking frequent breaks from the chores. It's so humid today in Melbourne and I'm continually sweaty from the infection anyway.

I hope you are doing okay with the no fill? Learning to limit the amounts so you don't over do like last night ;) Just worried for you.

Linda,

Unfortunately Lynda didn't make it to lunch, she was meant to be there but got caught in a Santa queue with her gorgeous granddaughters.

Actually she is closer to you and Melbourne ;) Though I'm not sure she wants the world to know where she's living so I'll let her spill those beans if she'd like to. I've sent her off an email this morning so I'll let her know that she is missed.

To Monica,

I don't know when you'll get to read this but I just wanted to say how much I enjoyed meeting you today. It was great to finally put a face to a name that I have seen around different boards for years. Though you have been struggling lately you have also achieved so much personally. You really should be congratulated for all you have been through.

Again thank you or your enjoyable company today and I hope we meet again.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Julee,

Well at least I'm keeping you honest LOL so how is your journey going? Good I hope?

Seriously though, people keep telling me I'm persistent and things but what is the alternative, curl up and die? I started on my weight loss journey because I want to be around for my kids and grand kids, that hasn't changed. So I HAVE to keep at this until it works.

Not only that, if I was cruising along like a lot of you, I wouldn't have time to keep you guys "on track" LOL

You have to have a laugh.

If I could reach through this screen and give you a medal it would be for "Tenacity" - meaning - Persistent Determination. Your journey and journal entries on this site keep many of us on track while on our own journeys. I come to this site to read your entries as I still look for info and help 16 months on to keep me honest with this band. Thank you.

GO THE BOURBON... And I wasn't game to do the fizzy stuff either for a while... now I do the bourbon and coke on a regular basis... just let it sit for a bit.
