Will do some work after the silly season to see if I can move a little more, but that is just on my wish list not my life aim hehehe

Julie,
I have never really set a "Goal" weight but I do want to see double figures (don't we all) and 96 would be great so I could say Woo Hoo 100kg gone. Getting to the same weight as my hubby or under is just a dream from where I am, but who knows when I get closer.
As long as I'm comfortable and able to bush walk and buy size 16 off the rack anything else is a bonus.

Pyretta,
The Prof said to me that he expected me to be able to lose at least 60% of my excess weight. As I was 159.2kg, my excess for a normal bmi was 100kg, meaning I was expected to lose 60kg....leaving me at 100kg.
As you know, I exceeded his goal - by sheer determination and hard work. You will too !!
Once you get to 100kg, their work is done - in that you then fall into the success department! However, we know you can and will get to whatever goal your heart desires!! I believe its about 80kg?? Whatever it is, you will get there :)

Pyretta,
I'm so glad you can have a fill before Christmas - I just hope they are a little conservative with it as you wouldn't want to be totally unable to enjoy some of the offerings over the festive season.
As for getting under 100 kgs - well - I have my own thoughts about that. I have no doubt at all that you can do it, and I know how determined you are and that you will certainly give it your best shot. You just need a break on your difficult journey and I sincerely hope that things will be moving along for you soon.
Those of us who started this at nearly double that weight have a longer road than some, but I truly believe that we can and will achieve what we set our minds to. You are of course no exception to that, and I look forward to the day when you can gloat about being in double figures. I'm sure it will happen.
You show them that they can sometimes be wrong, too - and then you'll be a pin-up girl for the whole practice. Go Pyretta! |

Pyretta... tell that dr to shove it... you will get under 100 kilos, definately. You have worked too hard for too long to not have that happen. IT WILL HAPPEN... don't ask my how I know, I just do, it is meant to be.
Good grief.... I hope you get your fill and I hope that it works well for you. As I am known to say at the moment... BOMBS AWAY!!!!

Pyretta,
I have no doubt at all that you will be under 100kg in the near future. I have not encountered anyone as determined and willing to change their life and inspire others as you. You will get there and it will be all the more special because you will have proven the doc wrong.
Use his comment to spark up some fire in your belly to drive yourself onward, you will do it and there will not be any stopping you.

Pyretta some days you just want to smack the doctors don't you just. You wish they would all make their mind up and speak straight talk to your fac ein one go instead of throwing stuff like that at you when you are down. I can see no reason why you can not crack into double figures, he can bite his bum, if not I will do it for him ;)

Pyretta - sorry to bother you again
I have a full box of OPTIFAST vanilla (one only missing) plus a never used shaker and 1 box of chicken soup and vegetable soup that I would like to give away. Do you know anyone who might like them? I would be willing to send them free of charge by courier anywhere in the Melbourne metropolitan area or they could be picked up at my work place which is on the Western Highway in Caroline Springs. I was lucky that the Prof didn't require OPTIFAST before surgery and although I thought that I would do it anyway one try was enough to send me running to the bars as I hate creamy things (even deserts believe it or not) Anyway I feel that it is such a waste to have them sitting here and if it would help someone on their way I would be pleased to help.

Mel,
Well I have been to see Paul again today (I swear I'm becoming a piece of the furniture there) and we had a long chat about things, not just the op and infection but moving forward from here.
He is still concerned that I have the internal infection but as it hasn't gotten any worse and the swelling doesn't seem to be as bad he is willing to allow me a fill before Christmas (YAY!!! Woo Hoo!!) I'm sure you can't tell that I'm happy about that.
I have strict instructions that Anna HAS to do the fill but I have to have an xray on the day to locate the position of the port and then instruct Anna on which approach Paul wants taken.
He still thinks the fill is risky, but agrees we have to do this eventually anyway. I'm on antibiotics still and will get at least another 2 courses of them, taking me right up to the fill day.
We talked about my expected weight loss and I must say I was a little floored when he said that trying to get under 100kg might be unrealistic for me. But you know me and you know I'm not going to give up that easily. Once this band is working to it's full potential I am going to try my hardest to prove him wrong!
So that's where we are at for now. The weight hasn't gone up or down for the week, so for me that's a bonus!

Apple,
That HAS to be an NSV doesn't it? I remember hanging up my walking stick, (I used it more to lean on and for balance than anything) unfortunately it has been dusted off again since the last surgery but I can't wait to pack it away again.

my shootingstars,
First off, yes I did get the package and loved a lot of what was in it, I honestly thought I'd emailed you, I'm sorry if I didn't, and you should be expecting a little something in the mail soon too;)
Congratulations for getting 20kg down! Now you're in the 20s it won't be long before you hit the teens. As I keep saying weight loss is not a race, it's a journey and sometimes we need to take the time along the way to appreciate where we are and where we have come from. I think sometimes, however, backtracking (like I have) is a waste of time LOL
Stay well and I hope you like what's in the mail.

I remeber the drive to the hospital a little over a year ago and the male of the species having to drive around twice just to make sure he could drop me at the door and that their was chairs large enough to tek me inside the door as I could never have walked from the carpark. It has taken me this long to retire my wide bum chair out of our car. I use to carry it every wherea s I knew it would take my weight and width and was light enough for him to carry into places so I could sit down every few feet. I had not sat in it for over 6 months and my bum actually fell out the back of it when I used it at a bbq the other week hehehe

You are absolutely correct as always, Pyretta!
we must take a leaf from your book when times are tough, and compare our latest hiccup with our VERY BAD DAY, when things were at their worst. we cannot help but emerge victorious then!
ive finally cracked the twenties and left the thirties behind once and for all. took me long enough (6 months) to drop those 20kgs but hey who cares, right?
just 2 more things ...
1. ive had a fill done under xray and i actually PREFER it! just get up on the table and 10 seconds later its over. done. no digging, searching, probing, prodding.
2. did u ever get the packages i sent to celebrate your new port? anything there you liked?
cheers mate x
ps...3 steps forward and 2 steps back, is STILL a step forward! |

Yes, you are way ahead of where you were three years ago, as I am also.
I hope that things are improving and that the infection is not causing you too much grief and has improved.

Mel,
Thanks for that but I'm sure I'm not the only person that has had to struggle through, knowing this is the right choice and it WILL work given half a chance.
I was actually sitting here thinking about this day 3 years ago. It was the day I started Optifast. The day I cried with pain trying to walk the 50 or so metres to the clinic chairs and then the next 20 metres to the scales. Even if the weight has gone up over the past 12 months, I am no where near feeling as hopeless as I did that day.
I may struggle to do some of the things I was doing just 15 months ago, but remembering the pain from that day 3 years ago makes me realize just how far I have come.

Pyretta... I am sure that another week of the antibiotics you will be on your way a full recovery. I still cannot believe that you have had to suffer through what you have suffered through. All I can say is that this has happened to you because no other mere mortal could deal with it.

Thank you for letting us know how you went at your appointment. You are truly an inspiration to me and many others I am sure - so level headed and determined to see this to the end. I see the Prof next week and maybe will get some restriction - hope so I am getting a bit peckish
Thank you again for your assistance to me over the past weeks. Take care

Judy,
Glad to hear that you have your sweet spot. Your weight loss has been pretty good too, you should be very proud of what you have achieved. I know I am in need of a fill, but just have to bide my time until the damn infection lets up a bit.
I was at the Avenue this morning as well and saw Paul. We had a bit of a chat about how things are going (or not). He is happy with the way I am battling the infection and really doesn't want to hospitlaize me now, which is a bit of a relief. He did however put a few more things in persepective for me.
Because of the first infection I had I am always going to be prone to infections, one of the reasons he has wanted to keep me out of hospital and the main reason he didn't want to remove the port if it could be avoided.
I am (and pretty much will for the forsesable future) carrying a lot of fluid around the new and old port areas. He believes that at least the first fill, when I am well enough, should be done under xray and possibly all fills from now on, but he also emphasised that each fill I get (each needled that goes in) I will be risking an infection.
I go back and see him again next week, as the infection is still too active for his liking. In the mean time I'm still on the antibiotics four times a day and trying hard to control my eating.
