Stacey,

You more than likely did! I was in Woodend on Friday 30th at around 11:30am and came back through there on Monday 2nd probably around 12 noon. I'll bet a looked a little rough on the Monday though LOL. 4 days on a mountain can do that to you.

I hope you are going well Stacey.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Mary, your family sounds like that of a friend of mine :-) she is from a family who had 11 children and the only one with a weight problem.

She has never got a lot of family support. Shes not banded or intending to do so. I do feel for her.

Last Christmas at Christmas lunch there were a lot of left overs. One of her smart assed sisters said "don't bother clearing the table Mum, Shelly will eat that lot I'm sure, going on the size of her"

She was mortified and quite upset. She actually had not been eating anymore than them and they really don't understand how much the comments hurt her.

Its not that they don't love her, just that they have no grasp on how being fat feels and they are absolutely tactless

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Pyretta.
I think if you have family members that are in the same boat, in theory should make it easier in the support stakes.
I have no one in my family with a weight issue. my brother is slightly heavy but not too bad. the entire rest of my family are skinny.including my 76 year old mother, and 83 year old father.
my sister is very fit and her attitude was the usual when people have no idea.
she is better now that some weight has come off.
good to hear other peole's stories and how they cope etc.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Julie,

I know what it's like to have the weight issues run through the family. I'm the youngest of 10 and I also have a twin. Of the 10, 7 of us are girls and only one doesn't have a weight issue. Yep my twin sister. LOL. I have just recently heard one of my brothers has just been banded as well. I hope his journey doesn't mirror mine, for his sake.

The water aerobics will be great for you. I hope you are finding them challenging but enjoyable. I am so glad to hear you are getting so close to having you op. Fingers crossed you hear from them before Christmas.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Hi, yes I have contacted the hospital, its been two years now and I'm almost at the top of the list Yaaaeeee.

They told me I should hear in the next couple of months about my first appointment. My younger sister is close to having the operation (she applied two months before me but has more health issues and was classed a category 1 case so had her first appointment early this year)

Swine flu cases have slowed down the list a bit this year. I had been toying with the idea of getting private cover and going with the sleeve but after a lot of reading and looking into the health funds, sadly I just cant afford the payments right now and since I'm so close to the top of the list now I think I will just hang in there and wait for the band via the public system.

My older sister in Queensland has gone private and is being banded on Oct 20th. All very exciting for her. You may have gathered by now that we all seem to have weight issues in my family, my father did but not my mother. We seem to have taken after dads side. In the meantime I'm under a dietitian and I'm doing water aerobics workout with weights three days a week.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Oh well, time for another update.

My second bandiversary happened almost 2 weeks ago now with very little fanfare. I am no where near the goals I had set for myself at the beginning of my banding journey but after my first 14 months I already knew I wouldn't reach them.

I have managed to shed 13kg since my first bandiversary, so I'm not as disappointed as I was last year. We have to at least acknowledge the positives.

I have had my anti depression meds increased in the past 2 weeks and that has helped me get back on track with my eating and exercise regime. Though I no longer have gym membership I now walk my dog for an hour every second day, and more than that if I feel up to it.

I am feeling more positive now than I have in a while so it's onwards and downwards from here.

Julie,

I really hope you don't have too much longer to wait. have you contacted the surgeon/hospital and asked how the list is going? Any Idea how many people in front of you?

I really hope you get contacted soon.

As for me, well I suppose I really should do a small update. I'll try and get around to it soon.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Chris,

Basic private hospital cover is all she should need to be done privately. She may be able to work out a payment plan with the surgeon for the gap amount, or access her super, or even look at taking out a loan or putting it on her credit card. I know of some people who have done that so it may be an option for her.

I hope she finds a solution soon and gets her banding.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Just wanted to say hi pyretta, I often wonder how you are going with your band, I know you waited a long time. I browse these forums periodically and you always seem to be a very encouraging person. I'm almost at the top of the list in the public health system for lap-band now. Wont be too much longer I guess until i get my first appointment. I look forward to it with trepidation though :-)

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Cozzie,

Unfortunately, no I am nowhere near goal at the moment. I think the closest I have been to goal was 6 weeks after banding, before all of the problems.

I'm sure I'll get there eventually, it's just having this 2 year delay means I've lost the window of opportunity for rapid weight loss and I'll have to take the slow road. I don't mind, I'm in no hurry.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Pyretta,
I know you arent having a great run at the moment - but your saving grace is, WHATEVER life throws at you, you just get back into the saddle and keep going :). No matter how many back-steps you have, just know that you wont be re-visiting those numbers you were sitting on when we first met. You are a real inspiration to ME and I just want you to know that I am with you, every step of the way (which includes those lil back steps too!!).

Our emo eating gets in the way big time on our journeys - guess it always will, even at goal things are thrown at us and we have to deal with it and move on. I am also in the garden, trying to keep my hands dirty to keep them out of my mouth!! We both are gunna have the best gardens in Victoria :)

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Cath,

Thank you for that though I hardly feel inspirational.

I'm not having a very good run at the moment, since they removed the overfill I have been gaining weight again.

Trying hard to keep a lid on my emotional eating, which I know is my biggest problem so I've been back out in the garden again keeping my hands dirty.

I had to stop going for my walks because of a hip problem too nut I'm trying to get back on track with that and my water intake as well.

I have no doubt it will all come together again eventually, I just need to put in a bit more effort.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Cozzie,

I did a LOT of research prior to my banding and have been on banding boards now for nearly 5 years.

Having nearly 2 years on Opti helps as well.

I received a lot of support and advice in my early time on the boards as I like to repay the favor by supporting others.

Lovely,

I understand why you had the balloon, your motivation sounds almost like the same motivation I had to stay on the optifast for so long so I really know where you are coming from.

I do hope it works out for you and you reach your goal very soon. If it's not meant to be then I hope you go on to get the sleeve you want.

Re:PYRETTA Reply to this message
Margot

Last year I was swimming 50 laps a day and loving it. I was convinced it was the swimming that had caused my Apnoea to improve and was really keeping the tuck shop arms at bay.

Unfortunately I had so many months where I couldn't get back into the pool due to ops or infections that I just lost the motivation to get up at 6am to go.

I really would love to get back into the pool, it was the only exercise I could to for the longest time. Maybe one day soon.
