| pt3 BTW I have struck a great deaI with Pedometers Australia ( here in Perth ) after telling them of our cause. We can purchase a Accelerometer GS2026 pedometer: Steps, Kms, Calories and Clock. Dual Screen, High Accuracy, No clicking, Spring loaded waist clip. 4.5 recommended rating for just $19.70 each. We need to jump on this as ASAP I will need final numbers by this Monday (21st) so that we are organised and ready to go by the 28th April. I will mail country walkers their pedometers and those locally can pick up from Sticky beaks Kings Park on Sunday 27th. Don't attempt this with a cheap pedometer from cereal packs as we don't want guesswork. Besides after the challenge you'll be inspired to do more...and a decent pedometer will keep you on track. I believe they are throwing in a few extras too ( don't quote me though ) like a Saftey Stap and a 12 Week ( 4pg ) Step log...including tips and plans. vikki PS Come on our Eastern State friends...you can do this too! | pt2 I hope that this MOTIVATES everyone to move more than they normally do. In fact I'm counting on it surprising some as to how far they can actually walk. As far as cheating goes ( and a few have queried this! ) I like to think that we are an honest bunch...I believe we are! Besides, you'd only be cheating yourself in the long run as I hope this becomes an annual ( or even bi-annual ) challenge. Therefore, this time next year ( or 6mths from now ) we will be taking note of our improvement. Every Sunday evening before you go to bed ( or first thing Monday morning ) you email me your total steps/km for the week. I will plot your individual progress on a Perth map and let you know what suburb you're in that week. It's a bit of light fun to make it more interesting. Besdides, I bet the next time you drive down the freeway you'll be saying to yourself "Gee I never thought I'd ever have been able to walk this far!" There will be weekly incentive certificates and a number of awards given on Presentation Night June 13th ...any excuse for a party! WALK WANNEROO > WANNANUP SIX WEEK WALKING CHALLENGE Beginning: Monday 28th April Ending: Monday 9th June $25 entry fee ( most of which will be donated to charity ) Presentation Night: Friday 13th June: 7pm, Burwood Casino Emporium Food Hall This is open to each and everyone! YOU, your husband , your wife, your best friend....everyone can get in on the fun! Not suitable for younger kids as you must be wearing your pedometer at all times as there's no guess work allowed! Let me know that you're interested, pay your entry, organise a good quality pedometer to attatch to your hip and a comfy pair of walking shoes...then be ready to kick it off on Monday 28th April! | WEIGHT LOSS GROUP CHALLENGE- Let's walk from Wanneroo to Wannanup? ( and back if you can! ) LOL..NO not all at once! It's a 6 Week Walking Challenge. I hear some of you say where in heaven's name is Wannanup? Well it's near Dawesville. Yes that's some walking. In fact you'll be walking the equivalent of approximately 97km...from one end of Perth to the other! How about that! ( AND back again...if you can! ) The best thing about this is that it doen't require much on your part. Just the willingness to set yourself a personal goal and to go for it. Well that and a comfy pair of walking shoes and a good quality pedometer. Not only will you gain from the benefits of taking part in this challenge a charity or charities ( of our choosing ) will too as there is an entry fee of $25 ( most of which will be donated to such charity/charities ) So they too will gain... it's win-win all round! The way this works is that you count your steps daily ( using a pedometer ) as you move around. Depending on how much you move during a normal day you may need to plan structured walks. Ideally we should be aiming for 10,000 steps a day. ( Did you know that anything less than 5,000 steps daily is classed as physically inactive! ) I worked out with my gate I should be able to walk from Wanneroo to Wannanup and back again if I do 10,000 steps a day ( that's the challenge I want to meet ) Knowing others will push themselves to do the same will push me along...it's the motivation I need. For those of you that struggle with walking don't think you can't participate. Even if you walk the distance equivalent to that from Wanneroo to Warwick ( in the 6 weeks ) as long as it's further than you would normally walk then you've succeeded! That's the beauty of this event it's based on our individual goals. ( NB you can walk in the pool too...minus the pedometer! ) |
