Hi Brenda,
Congrats on taking your first step of this journey.
Dr Greenslade ROCKS !!
He is very cool, calm and collected and I have had a fabulous experience with him.
Ask about getting the surgery done at the QE2 hospital as an Intermediate patient (that may not suit your circumstances but IF it does it will save you heaps of $$.)
Feel free to e-mail if I can be of any support.

Hi Brenda,
ok, so lets see what I can tell you.
Firstly, a few surgeon's names.
Dr Justin Greenslade
Dr Hopkins
Dr Doug Nicolson
Dr Blair Bowden
From what I understand it will cost you approx $12,000 depending on which surgeon you choose.
Go to http://brisbanebansters.proboards.com/index.cgi
This is a Brisbane support group.
They have meet ups every month.
It's a really friendly fun group with lots of support and information for yet to be banded people.
The next one is on Sunday 29th November at 12 noon.
All the best,

Hi Tara
I am responing to you message left on 19/06/09 I am considering Lap band surgery in about a years time as I do not have any medical insurance and need to save up for the cost. It look like you have so insight to the facts and cost of the Lapband surgery and just wondering if you could advise on how much approximatly it costs, is it roughly around $10 000.00 in total or am I looking at more. could you also advise a good but resonable surgeon that I can read up on as I am doing my research now so when the time come I am ready. I have been wanting to do this for a very long time, It look like it is a lot cheaper here in Australia. Please could you send me some good news on this topic you can email me on my direct email address which is Dabusman@three.com.au
Many Thanks

I was the smallest person my lapband suregeon has done only 83 kilo, but 5 foot 3inches and felt exhausted all the time depressed, battling with back pain and bad knees etc etc. my Hobart surgeon did'nt hesitate ive tried weight watchers, the milk shakes numerous diets and all did'nt last, i'm really pleased ive done this i feel great already can get down on the floor and get up without problems,go for it, you will feel wonderful when you see the scales going down and you get a waist back and the bottom decreases, all with ease, i eat everything no problem whatsoever, first two weeks horrible but its worth it, regards Leonie Hobart

i've had the lap band mid july, the first two weeks i was very down and out, sore, mentally wondering what have i done? feeling pretty regretful, but now after losing 8 kilo without dieting within 7 weeks i feel excited! can't wait to get an adjustment tomorrow as i know that will start me losing again, my clothes that were tight and felt so uncomfortable now fit or hang on me, i don't miss out on a thing, i eat slower chew more feel full very quickly therefor eat less, so if your overweight and its on your mind every moment go for it, i had mine done in hobart it is very reasonable here so i feel lucky, good luck start your new life, my doctor told me statistics show only 2% of diets work. i'm very happy i decided to do it.!!

Hi Rebecca,
If you have a pension card the actual lapband prosthesis is free - they usually cost around $4000. So that is a huge saving straight away.
If you go as an intermediate patient (which means a private patient in a public hospital so you pay for you bed.) this will also save you heaps IF the surgeon you choose offers this. The wait time doesn't seem to be too much longer this way.
The 3rd cost will be your surgeon's fee which varies from surgeon to surgeon.
Keep looking around these boards, you will get heaps of useful info.
Cheers

No I'm not a beautician but I think I know who you are talking about but I don't want to write her name here or the name of the shop because she might not want it widely known.
If you're not a member of Gold Coast Bandsters already I'll put the address here for you, the person I think you are referring to is a member of that group. She's come to a couple of the get-togethers.
Feel welcome to email me if you like;

You need to remove the space after the 'd' in bandsters, Yahoo automatically puts it in.

It is sad some people have the band then proceed not to change their bad diet habits. Bad habits continue to the point I know one person is melting chocolate to get past the restriction. The band provides an opportunity to adjust to healthy eating but it is only a tool. Eating unhealthy at the expense of missing essential nutrients can result in fatigue and extreme hunger. Weight loss can be slow especially if you continue to eat badly, quicker if you change to a healthy diet. Have treats now and then not every day. Barb

Tall poppy
Every bandster's banding journey is different so don't be put off by some of the things you read. I eat chicken, bread, rice, steak, etc there is nothing I cannot eat. Once banded it is trial and error to figure out that foods your band will tolerate or not.
With the sleeve (vertical sleeve gastrectomy) although it's a more drastic surgery, usually there is no deletion of any healthy foods you curently eat and enjoy from your eating plan.
Hope that helps.

Hi Tara
Dr Greenslade has a great reputatiom, I personally know several people that have been banded or sleeved by him and they say he is wonderful but the bonus is he is one of the cheapest around as well. Many travel from the Gold Coast to have him do their surgery because he is cheaper than the the surgeons on the coast.
If you contact Dr Greenslade he will send you out a quote and information for the band and the sleeve (vertical sleeve gastrectomy), he is very approachable and friendly.

Hey Tall Poppy,
I was banded by Justin Greenslade at QE2, Sunnybank, as an Intermediate patient.
(You pay for surgeon, hospital bed, lapband and anesthetist.)
As I have a pension card my band was free so my out of pocket expenses came to approx $3000.
Hope this helps ... e-mail me if I can help anymore.
Good luck with your decision.
