| Thanks ladies for these posts.... I'm also diabetic and it's good to know that once I'm banded, there's a light at the end of the tunnel. |

Hi There
I was told by my GP once a diabetic always a diabetic, and that it is advisable to have your hba1c(Blood test that you have done) checked every three months. Since being banded four weeks ago I have been off all medication(7 tabs a day), though now that I am introducing other foods I have started back onto one tablet a day. But as I loose more weight I should end up with just diet control
Regards

Leanne,
My doctor has informed me that I am asked if I have diabetes I am to answer NO. I can however state that I am prone to glucose intolerance due to my obesity.

Hi Pyretta
On some thread somewhere, goodness knows which one, I told you I'd get back to you after I spoke to my G.P. about having Diabetes Type 2 under control because I couldn't understand why you and others that I have read about no longer have to have tests for it. When I lost 20 kilos my Diabetes Type 2 dropped to around the 5% mark that was nearly two years ago but I still have to have quarterly tests.
I received the results off my G.P. today and I mentioned your case how you no longer have to have quarterly checks. My G.P. told me that she asked a Diabetes Specialist at Gold Coast Hospital if a patient's sugar measures around the 5% mark does that mean they no longer have Diabetes. He replied they will always have Diabetes it just means it is very well controlled which is why they still need to be tested regularly. This confirms what my Diabetes Educator told me when I asked her 2 years ago "what do I say when a medical form or a medical professional ask me if I have Diabetes, do I say no". She told me to say "I have Diabetes and it's under control as a result of weight loss and a healthy diet.".
