Hi suzie & Bear
Dont worry sounds like you'll be right on track soon now that the junk foods gone and kids are back at school.
Im really not exercising much myself and i think i should be down more than i am.
I'm 14kgs less now and i have my first fill Tuesday.
I'm sort of worried that i wont get much of a fill if he sees you losing too much weight.
Its been hard work and im hungry a fair bit now.
I have optifast at least twice a day to keep the calories under control & because its easy too.
I went to cafe Bravo yesterday and met up with some fellow bandits.
You guys should have come, its great to talk to fellow bandits face to face.
Any way ,good to hear from you Suzie.
When i have my fill on Tuesday morning i'll be flying out to the Gold Coast for a holiday in the afternoon.
Boy do i need a break!
Keep us updated with your progress.
Hey Bear, how are you doing? havent heard from you in a while, hope all is good.

Hi Jane,Bear and everyone(bandits),Havent posted for a while.I went through the stage of mostly healed after op.No first fill yet and slip back into some bad eating habits stage. My weight got down to 108kgs but has gone up to 110kgs as a result!Still heaps less than 121kgs!
I am having my first fill on the 7th(thursday)and am sure it will slow me down again.I have had a lot of things get stuck!Had to throw up to clear them as it was really uncomfortable!
Kids are now back at school and a lot of the pressure is off me now.I have the mornings free(my daughter is at kindy in morns)and I can get to curves at least 4days a week now.I am cleaning out the cupboards of the kids junk that was a temptation during school holidays.
I am thinking about riding my push bike down to curves only 4.4ks as a cardio workout. Will do me good and burn lots of fat. They have made a marked bike lane down the main road to follow so its much safer too!
I am also removing a LARGE garden bed in my back yard to make way for a spa.So the shovelling and wheelbarrowing are good exercise too!If you need any clean fill for a block of land or garden, nice rich growing soil too.Just give me a email buzz and comes with free delivery!
Hi Sandi glad you have come over to Dr Bessel,he is kind of brash and to the point but thats a good thing I think! You are goin to look and feel great in no time!Good luck everyone and keep on losing!!!!Suzie. |

Hi JaeB
When we have our bands installed they are a bit like a deflated floatie that is put around the top part of our stomach with a tube attached to a port that is located just below our skin either just under your breasts or near your belly button depending on your surgeons preference for placement. When the band is installed the doctor only puts a tiny bit of liquid in the band so its like having a floatie on your arm with no air, its very loose. Then every month we go see the surgeon and he injects saline into the port, its called "fill" and it goes up the tube into the band and tightens it around our stomach causing restriction and reducing what we can eat. Like putting air in that floatie until it gets really tight!!
I know what your thinking, no it doesn't hurt, we dont have many nerve endings in our stomach, Im the worlds biggest wuss and I barely feel it. Most Lap Banders report the same thing.
Typically you have the band and you are swollen after surgery for a couple of weeks so you cant eat much and you lose weight, then the swelling go downs and you have no fill so you are HUNGRY and restricted to fluid this is the worst two weeks of the band, then you get some fill and are restricted to mushies for a month. Then your doctor adjusts your restriction each month until you get the perfect amount to control your eating.
I hope this answers your question |

Hi Jates Mum and Laura,
congratulations on your bands, the next months of mushies will fly and before you know it you'll be llap band preachers' like so many of us telling everyone you know this was the best thing you ever did.
I swear we are worse than reformed smokers. In the meantime, dont push yourself, the weight went on slowly it needs to come off that weigh and SIP, SIP SIP

Janie, I am so pleased you were happy with Dr Bessell. Megan seems happy too from what I have read.
I do not like the idea of all this Doctor team interference, and would have preferred Dr Leong, as his method is more straightforward, but as Dr L only accepts private patients, I was not in any position to wait another 12 months, risk being a danger to myself and my beautiful children.
I have heard only good things about Bessell, and Anderson for that matter, and its a location thing for me.
My journey begins next Thursday with the "team", and hopefully soon after I will have a date for surgery.
It's all because of your inspirational stories, diaries, confessions, and honesty, that we are able to be open with one another on this forum, and each day when I log on, I find myself either crying with familiarity, or amazed that I am "not the only one".
Thankyou so much to all of you.
You are my unseen friends.

Hey Ads, I can only begin to imagine what an enormous ride I am embarking on. Thankyou so much for all your encouragement, it means so much to me.
Thanks Megan, yes I see that they have info nights at one of the major Hotels in Adelaide, but they are at night I think, and its so logistically difficult when u have 3 little ones, and its so far. I have learned an amazing amount from these boards, and from many web sites over the last 6 months, I am so ready.
Thankyou so much

You'll be right... take it easy, sip on some nice fluids for a day or two and keep your feet up... pop your wee one beside you with a comfy pillow over you tummy and sit in front of the tellie.
Rest up, you now have the rest of your life to get on with.

| Hi everyone, I too have become an official bandit. I was also done by Dr Leong @ Centrals on Tuesday. I think the real killer is going into the real world now, where as while I was in hospital I didn't have to think about the food. Got home tonight after our 3 hour trip home & all I want to do is pick up our little boy (he's 1) but I know I can't just yet, maybe next week. Like my husband said, it's all for him in the long run & don't go busting anything this week when next week should be ok to pick him up. Any way I am sure this will help as I am a bit emotional at the moment & to know other people survive ( & thrive) is reassuring. Thank you once again. |

Hello all Adelaide Bandits out there. I can now finally say that i am now a true blue Bandit also. I had my band fitted on Tuesday by Dr Leong at Central Districts Private hospital. (I have just gotten home) I was sooo happy with the way everything went ( except for that discusting barium drink) it all went smooth sailing for me. The pain after the op was a bit more than i anticipated, but with the help of those pain killers i was able to get through it. And So here i am. I am on a roll now i am so emotional, i am just so ecstatic to be able to sit here with you lot and share with you guys. I am feeling quite good today, except for when i move to quickly. So far i have managed to keep everything down wich is great.
Talk to you all soon

Dear Sandi
Good luck with Dr Bessell and the team.
It really is a team he works with and it aint cheap.
I was annoyed in the beginning with all the different specialists and appointments.
He is not cheap probably the dearest but i believe he is the best in Adelaide and my GP who is a friend aswell as my GP said hes the best in Adelaide.I have spoken to numerous people about lap band docs and ive heard some terrible things with regard to complications after surgery with different surgeons.
I'm glad i chose Dr Bessell but when i first met him i doubted if i chose the right doc.
6 weeks banded i now know i chose the right doc.
I hope this info helps.
Good luck! |

Amanda, that is how I feel, I eat healthy most of the time but I must eat too much at a sitting. My worst time is in the evening watching TV. Too many cracker biscuits, like the whole box in no time.
If any1 else has advise for a new prospective bandit I would welcome your thoughts. JaeB |

I have found the band to be a great tool for me in 9 months i have reached my goal. At present i have lost 50kgs.I have also tried all the diets and lost the weight but once i stopped i would gain more. I dont see it as a big diet, you can still enjoy your fav foods in life just in a smaller portion. I personally needed something that would stop me from eatting large portions of food and i know that i cant go back to my old ways of binge eatting etc. I understand what you are saying the thing is the band is a tool and you have to make it work. For me it is the best decission i have ever made for myself. |

| Amanda, Thanks for answering, obviously you have found it successful. I am two minds about banding as I have dieted so many times and the info I have found on the net,it is just like one big diet and exercise. How do you find this method to all others. I am feeling very frustrated at present, I know nothing is easy and it is up to me. JaeB |

No worries Sandi - glad to help.
If you're interested and are in town i also went to one of the information sessions that Dr Bessell gave which i found extremely helpful and re-affirmed my decision to be banded. I think he gives these quite often so maybe check the website for further nights? |

Will be thinking of you Sandi on Thursday and hope that all goes well and that you get your date!
I was so worked up too when I went in to see Dr L that when he actually suggested a date I was really calm and collected only because I think I didn’t really believed him?
It was like having an out of body experience??? Weird I know
I mean I was fine and asked questions and even managed to bring the date forward a week, it still felt unreal? I guess I spent a lot of time researching this procedure and reading the Lap Band Solution book, reading tips off this board that I just hadn’t stepped over into Bandit Country just yet. I was just looking from the sides! That was my experience am looking forward to hearing about yours!!!

I just recieved my schedule of fees from Dr Bessells clinic.
They really pass you around all the phycicians in his suite, enabling all of them to cash in on one's misery. How very good they are to look after one another.
Hmmmm...
Anyways.. nothing unexpected, as Megan had prepared me, thanks Megan.
So people, I'm aproaching my first step: Next Thursday, my first appointment with the Bariatric GP, I will ask her if I am able to see a couple of the next phycicians on the same day, to cut down on my travel.
Im sooooo geared up. I am ready for this. Lets hope all goes smoothly. I cant wait to join the Bandits!
Cheers
