Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Debbie,
I would recommend to anyone who is "morbidly obese" to have the sleeve operation. I had mine in April at Ashford by Dr. Michael France and I haven't looked back since. I have lost 30kg so far, still have some way to go, but have my Type 2 Diabetes "in remission" and lots more energy! I was very unhealthy before the op but not any more! Do take the time to research which is the best for you, also be guided by your specialist, they can advise better than anyone. Good Luck!

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Debbie,
I also go to the dinner get-togethers at Cafe Uno in Ingle Farm and it is very enjoyable to meet other people on similar journeys.
I was lapbanded last November and feel a lot healthier and happier. Have lost 27kilos so far and more to go.
There is also a Lapband Coffee Chat group that meet once a month on Tuesday nights at Norwood, which I also go to - I find it a great support and fun also.
The next get-together is this Tuesday 15 Sept 7-9pm, cost is gold coin & 40c for coffee. It's at Women's Community Centre, 64 Nelson Street, Stepney (opposite Avenues Shopping Centre).
The women who go are all at different stages of weight loss - pre lapbanding, post and considering it, and have different surgeons. You are very welcome to come.
It's a great way to gain more info, by chatting to some people who have been through it, so hope to see you at the groups - both are great.
Good luck on your journey!

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Debbie
I am a type 1 diabetic and have now lost around 35kg. I feel the best I ever have since having the sleeve. I have gone off my medications all except insulin.I can put my own socks on , which I couldn't do before and I have soooo much energy.

I opted for the sleeve as I didn't want to be reliant on another doctor for the rest of my life.
I also love fruit veg salad and meat. I found with the sleeve I wouldn't have as many restrictions.
I also didn;t want to go back to restrictions with every fill. It is hard enough to balance my sugar levels.
THis was the best decision of my life. I had the sleeve over 18mths now and can eat anything , but in small amounts. So I tell everyone research what is best for you.
I had my surgery with Michael France at Ashford
and found him fantastic and caring.
We have a support group that gets together 1st wednesday of the month at Cafe Uno Ingle Farm.
We are made up of sleevers, bandits and bypass.
We all are aiming for the same healthy life, so if you would like to come along anytime you are more than welcome.

Donna

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi All
I have a BMI of 42 my joints ache, I have diabetes in the family as well as Bowel cancer in the family. I have been overweight as a child but now considered morbidly obese. I have 2 kids and want to see my great grand children. My eldest is 15 and she is such a beautiful girl, but has my gene's. I want to set an example of good eating and a good health life style, I go on and off these diets about every 2 years with varying degrees of success, however the weight always seems to find its way back on. I would love to feel sexy and energetic. I am a happy person and content with life but I know the last time I lost weight I felt so much better. I want something that is go to help me stay on the bandwagon forever as it is apparent that I can never eat as my husband does and stay skinny like he does.(One of those people that can eat and eat and stay skinny all his life - great for him - sucks for me ). I work full-time as helping my hubby run a part-time business so we are always busy busy.
I have had my first apt with Steve Sabine, Paul Anderson's GP and I have booked in surgery for the 4th December. However in the back of my mind I am wondering if it is the right thing. Surgery and needles and stuff don't bother me, I am experienced in these matters. However do want life to be better not more complicated.
I want to hear about others that have gone through this, I want to hear about the good and the bad, and I would love to hear from other patients of Dr Anderson. So I can make an informed decision knowing all the pro's and con's.
The con's I see at the moment are NO RED MEAT, possibility of slippage and then having to take more time of to have surgery again.
The Pro's more energy, less strain on my body and better over health, a chance to love myself.
Maybe I am answering my own question......

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Jay
I beleive some doctors will do it, but I think the cost difference is huge. Some people take out of their super for the procedure.

A year goes by pretty quick.

You could come along to Cafe Uno first Wednesday of each month, all the girls there can give you info and help with pros and cons.
Some of the girls came along to the group for along time before having surgery.

Talk soon

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi everyone,
Haven't been on here for a while... going well lost 32 kg in total now... Taken 12 months but happy with that... Funny thing is I still find it hard not to think of myself as big... I had a coffee out with my mum this week and starting looking around for chairs with out arms and then remembered oh yeah I can fit in normal chairs now! (The best reward for me!).
Had a few forgetful moments and broke the golden rule the past week ... trying to be smart and drink and eat at the same time... Oops that was a mistake.... stuffed me right up for about three or four days. Had a little vomit just about every time I ate something... that is a quick way to get you back on track let me tell you. All better now got my brain back in gear and eating fine.

Anyone thinking about getting a band should come and see the girls at Cafe Numero Uno the group that Donna co-ordinates... A sure way to inspire anyone to take control of their life and lose weight by band or sleeve!

Seeya there
Jill xo

Next get together is Wednesday 5th august 6pm Cafe Uno at Ingle Farm. Email donnaley@hotmail.com.au if you can attend, it is a great fun night of catching up answering questions and comparing issues. Come along and meet people in the same situation or contemplating surgery.
