This one sounds like an advert for the company -- that basically sells products and services.
Daynarowntree - I'm not saying you're not real, but why come on here just to promote a company? If you are real I'm glad you are doing well.
Just be careful everyone -- I went to one of these and it is basically a sell job. My GP and my surgeon are the ones I go to to recommend dieticians/physios etc -- and I don;t like the products. Each to their own of course.

Hi all,
I was banded 4 weeks ago and so far have lost 10.5kgs. For me it has been quite easy adjusting to the life style change as i was so mentally ready. With the help of my dietician, family and friends i can see a new future mapping out right before my eyes.
I wanted to let every Adelaide person know about the website called bandbuddies.com.au You can sign up for free and browse over other peoples stories, nutritional advice and much much more. For those who have been banded or sleeved there is going to be a seminar held on 26th October 2009 at the Royal Coach Inn, 24 Dequeteville Terrace, kent Town from 6 - 7.30pm. There will be dietician, psychologists plus much more. Would consider it a benefit for anyone living with lapband or sleeving. If your interested in attending you can sign up on line to reserve your spot. Hope to see heaps of you there.
Check out the website, its full of great information. |

Hi Debbie,
I also go to the group at cafe Numero Uno, great bunch of people to meet with and support each other.
I think you have to think of this a long term solution to be overwieght. I have been banded since July 2008 and lost 35kg at my last visit to Dr leong and still want to lose about 20 more. I have had a few problems but wouldn't be without it. I have friend who has had a band for about 5 years and she eats red meat. I guess you have to wait for till you ge to the end of your weight loss to know exactly what you can and can't eat. I can eat meat but only small amounts and it depends on whether I need to have fill or not. Some times I can only have soup... you just have to get used to living with the band and take each day at a time! I remember my friend telling me that this is the hardest thing you will do but she forgot to say it this the most rewarding thing you can do for yourself as well!
Wish you luck... Jill |

Hi Sarah (soz_mcdoz13)
Thanks you so much for your kind and positive support. I will call to get another fill i think. My husband is very happy with my weight loss so much he is thinking of getting it done. I think the stories scared me in thinking i stretched my small stomach (if you know what i mean) then nothing would work. My doctor is Paul Leong. Thanks so much again. Sarah you are a great help.

Hi Lisa (littlewheels),
It sounds to me that if you are hungry and you don't feel any difference after your fill and your weight loss has come to a plateau, that you need more fill in. I guess its been about a week since your last fill? Who is your doctor? I got told that if I was struggling, don't let things sit for too long, go back and get more fill. I would maybe wait one or two more weeks, then make an appointment for another fill. You will know when you hit a fill level that is right for you, it will make a big change. Your first fill is unlikely to get you to a good spot. Usually they put a small amount in to start to get you used to some kind of restriction, also, they can't just put a bit amount of fill in at once or you will just get things stuck. They take it gradually so your stomach can get used to the band tightening. I hope this has been of some help. Don't write your band off just yet! You've only been banded for 7 weeks so 8.2kg is fantastic!! It will take a bit of time to get to a good restriction level, and your weight may plateau until you reach this spot. Give your band some time and hopefully you will see some results! I'm sure your husband is very proud of your 8.3kg weight loss so far! I know there are lots of stories out there of people who have lost their weight super fast, but in reality there are a lot of us out there who just plod along slowly and gradually. But it will happen. Don't compare yourself to others, everyones journey is different and there is no normal amount to lose or any set weight you must lose. I have lost 22kg in just over a year and i'm still going. It's early days so don't be too hard on yourself ok!!! Keep positive!
Cheers, Sarah :) |

| Hi Hyacinth, I am going to see Dr Michael France for a lapband procedure preop on the 1st Oct. Dr Steve Sabine recommended me to him as the waiting list for Paul Anderson is up to next year. I feel comfortable with Steve recommending him to me as he has worked with him also.My operation is 13th Oct, so not long now.Not bad since I only went to see Steve on the 22nd Sept. Hi Debbie,
I would recommend to anyone who is "morbidly obese" to have the sleeve operation. I had mine in April at Ashford by Dr. Michael France and I haven't looked back since. I have lost 30kg so far, still have some way to go, but have my Type 2 Diabetes "in remission" and lots more energy! I was very unhealthy before the op but not any more! Do take the time to research which is the best for you, also be guided by your specialist, they can advise better than anyone. Good Luck!

Hi Debbie,
I also go to the dinner get-togethers at Cafe Uno in Ingle Farm and it is very enjoyable to meet other people on similar journeys.
I was lapbanded last November and feel a lot healthier and happier. Have lost 27kilos so far and more to go.
There is also a Lapband Coffee Chat group that meet once a month on Tuesday nights at Norwood, which I also go to - I find it a great support and fun also.
The next get-together is this Tuesday 15 Sept 7-9pm, cost is gold coin & 40c for coffee. It's at Women's Community Centre, 64 Nelson Street, Stepney (opposite Avenues Shopping Centre).
The women who go are all at different stages of weight loss - pre lapbanding, post and considering it, and have different surgeons. You are very welcome to come.
It's a great way to gain more info, by chatting to some people who have been through it, so hope to see you at the groups - both are great.
Good luck on your journey!

Hi Debbie
I am a type 1 diabetic and have now lost around 35kg. I feel the best I ever have since having the sleeve. I have gone off my medications all except insulin.I can put my own socks on , which I couldn't do before and I have soooo much energy.
I opted for the sleeve as I didn't want to be reliant on another doctor for the rest of my life.
I also love fruit veg salad and meat. I found with the sleeve I wouldn't have as many restrictions.
I also didn;t want to go back to restrictions with every fill. It is hard enough to balance my sugar levels.
THis was the best decision of my life. I had the sleeve over 18mths now and can eat anything , but in small amounts. So I tell everyone research what is best for you.
I had my surgery with Michael France at Ashford
and found him fantastic and caring.
We have a support group that gets together 1st wednesday of the month at Cafe Uno Ingle Farm.
We are made up of sleevers, bandits and bypass.
We all are aiming for the same healthy life, so if you would like to come along anytime you are more than welcome.

Hi All
I have a BMI of 42 my joints ache, I have diabetes in the family as well as Bowel cancer in the family. I have been overweight as a child but now considered morbidly obese. I have 2 kids and want to see my great grand children. My eldest is 15 and she is such a beautiful girl, but has my gene's. I want to set an example of good eating and a good health life style, I go on and off these diets about every 2 years with varying degrees of success, however the weight always seems to find its way back on. I would love to feel sexy and energetic. I am a happy person and content with life but I know the last time I lost weight I felt so much better. I want something that is go to help me stay on the bandwagon forever as it is apparent that I can never eat as my husband does and stay skinny like he does.(One of those people that can eat and eat and stay skinny all his life - great for him - sucks for me ). I work full-time as helping my hubby run a part-time business so we are always busy busy.
I have had my first apt with Steve Sabine, Paul Anderson's GP and I have booked in surgery for the 4th December. However in the back of my mind I am wondering if it is the right thing. Surgery and needles and stuff don't bother me, I am experienced in these matters. However do want life to be better not more complicated.
I want to hear about others that have gone through this, I want to hear about the good and the bad, and I would love to hear from other patients of Dr Anderson. So I can make an informed decision knowing all the pro's and con's.
The con's I see at the moment are NO RED MEAT, possibility of slippage and then having to take more time of to have surgery again.
The Pro's more energy, less strain on my body and better over health, a chance to love myself.
Maybe I am answering my own question...... |

Hi Jay
I beleive some doctors will do it, but I think the cost difference is huge. Some people take out of their super for the procedure.
A year goes by pretty quick.
You could come along to Cafe Uno first Wednesday of each month, all the girls there can give you info and help with pros and cons.
Some of the girls came along to the group for along time before having surgery.
Talk soon
