Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi everyone! I haven't been around for quite a while but thought I would pop in and say hi. I got banded last June by Dr Bessell but it has been a very tumultuous time since then for me. I have only dropped 15kg, which I am not thrilled about, but in September I found out that my husband of only 11 months had been cheating on me and we have separated. It has been a very up and down ride for me since then, at the time when I needed support the most, I found myself in a very difficult position emotionally. That is why I have found myself back here! I need some support and motivation to keep me going! I so desperately want to lose this weight and nothing is going to stop me! I started out at 128kg on banding day and currently sit at 113kg, and while I'm glad that is 15kg I will never see again, I wish it were more! I have struggled to find my sweet spot, around the time of my separation I couldn't get anything down, and everything was getting stuck, I think the stress was making eating almost impossible so I had fill taken out and now that I've settled myself down, I'm finding I'm not satisfied and hungry! So I've had one fill, but am going back for another tomorrow. Dr Patroney at Dr Bessell's practice is fantastic and has been so lovely throughout this time for me. So supportive.
I'm planning on going on a cruise in August, so I really want to have lost a fair chunk of weight be then! If I can get down around 85kg I will be over the moon! So I have about 30kg to lose by then! I really want to show my husband what he is missing out on!!! Ha ha ha!

Keep smiling guys, Cheers, Sarah :)

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Meredith,

No worries. I too, live in country SA. 4.5 hours away :) I waited 12 months from the start of my coverage. I am glad I waited because I needed that time to get into the mindset of being banded. I had my pre-op visits to the surgeon in the meantime as Medicare covers that. You only pay a $25 gap to see the surgeon.

All the best,
Cat

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi - I had a Gastric Sleevectomy done at the end of September in 07, and was initially thrilled with my 26kg loss in 26 weeks. Since then though I am struggling to lose any more weight, and have even gained a few kilos some weeks, and virtually had to starve myself to lose it again. I would like to come to your "get together" to chat to others, and also find out if I can have lap banding done now, even though I have already had the sleeve done. Regards, Sue

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Robbo, firstly, Well done on your 12kilos of weight loss, that's fantastic, secondly are you 100% sure that Mr Leong put in 2mls? Up until the other day I was telling people that I had 3mls of fill but was told by the receptionist that he doesn't normally put in any fill until after the op at your first appointment, it's just the band that has been fitted and that has restrictions within itself just being there. Maybe don't drink that quickly tho, maybe just have a bit at a time and it will keep you fuller for longer too. 12kilos is ok for you as you lose a heap of fluid in the first few weeks and remember, your not eating like you used to. Why not come along to the Cafe Uno next week so you can meet others and they might be able to help you with some of your questions. Cheers Jellybean xx

Hi Leydonna,
I am a 'pre-bandee' - op scheduled on Jan. 23. Would it be ok for me to come to the get together? Would love to hear of others' experiences as I'm starting to feel scared and excited.

Cheers, AH

Robbo,

There's also a Dr Leong thread. Not sure if you were aware. I, too, am his patient.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi All, Let me start by saying "Happy New Year"!! This is my first time on this particular forum and I hope you are all ok with me coming here to watch, learn and share my experiences. I was banded on the 8th December 08 by Mr Leong and in 3 weeks I have already lost 5 kilos. My weight has been a struggle for me mainly since I got married and I realised it was time to take control after I had my son and I put back on the 12 kilos I had lost during my pregnancy. Since being banded I have had so much more energy and I have never felt this good. 2009 I have decided is going to be my year to get fit and healthy. I would love to come along on the 7th to the cafe as I really believe that it is important to have a network of people that have been there or about to be there. I haven't told a lot of people including my family so it's hard not being able to chat about it more freely. Sorry I went on so long and I hope to meet some of you on the 7th. Cheers Jellybean xx

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Meredith,

As far as I'm aware, you don't need special coverage. As long as you have hospital coverage then the surgery is covered. Your GP refers you to see the bariatric surgeon and is therefore suggesting that you need weight loss surgery. So it is covered.

I have Young Singles Cover with Mutual Community. $66 per month. My extras aren't very good, though, and I have a hospital co-pay of $50 per day for up to 5 days. Mutual pays for any extra days after the 5.

Hope that helps,
Cat

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
hi everyone, my name is julie and I have my banding booked in for the 21st of january. I waited a year for private health insurance to kick in. I feel a bit surreal at the moment. I found out that my mum is dying 2 months ago (she gave me the money for the 'gap' fee). Since then my eating got reealll out of control and i have put on weight - I was stable before. I thought about putting the surgery off but my mum wants me to go ahead. Anyhow had my chrissy dinner with real joy...couldn't help but enjoy every mouthful knowing it was my last 'big' christmas meal! it's been interesting to read all your messages. I have a 2 1/2 year old toddler so I'm a bit nervous about coping physically after surgery with him...but my husband is supportive and I have him booked into childcare for the day of the op and two days after. My sis is coming down the day after that. Regards Julie
