Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Nicole,
Don't be scared.... It's not that bad. I was the biggest chicken before I hsd my surgery as it was the first major operation that I had. I was so glad to wake up after. I had a bit of pain at the port sight but was home after 2 nights. I had some pain killers but I was not too bad after a few days, I had two weeks off work but managed quiet well on the liquids. It just takes a bit of getting used to but 3 months will you can eat noraml foods goes by quickly.
It has been 16 months since I had my band done. I have lost about 38kg so far.
Follow what the dietians tell you and should be fine. Good Luck

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Zoe,
I go to a coffee and chat group for lapbanders at the Womens Community Centre - it also a fun group and we talk about all sorts of things and give each other tips. We have banders who have been banded for a couple of years right through to people thinking about it. It's not a medical support group set up by any particular doctor -
just a get-together for lapbanders. The next get together is Tuesday 8th December 7-9pm for our Xmas party. 64 Nelson St Stepney.
Hope to see you then Zoe.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi all,

It's been a while since I've been on these forums (about a year or so?) and it's good to see some familiar (and new) names!

I was banded in July 07 at 120kg. I'm currently 99kg. The last year and a bit I've been overfilled I think, to the point where solid food is very difficult for me to get down without pb'ing, and as a result of my busy lifestyle (I work full time, often interstate, and I study full time, graduating this year) I fell into a bad pattern of basically living soup and icecream to get myself by.

It's amazing that one person can live on that for over a year huh?

Anyway, after dealing with the shame and guilt that had me wanting to avoid coming back to these boards (I used to sign in under the name 'narinna') and had me avoiding my surgeon, I've made an appointment to see him tomorrow to loosen the damn thing so that I can learn how to treat the band, and myself, right again.

I guess my question for you Adelaideians is - are there any support groups around these days? And does anyone have advice on what sort of quantities/foods I should be targeting once I can eat solids again?

Anyway... thanks for letting me vent all xxx

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi everyone, operation went well on Tuesday. My tummy feels really good....my neck & shoulders well that's different. 3 days after surgery and am enjoying custard, soup, jelly, and I can't believe it I had a Quickyuck shake it went down slow but good.My Mum (god bless her) was fantastic. She took me out on Thurs for a cuppa get out the house, and to the hairdressers to make me feel better. She came from Two Wells for 3 nights to look after the boys & hubby and it was great. Haven't felt too yuck or uncomfortable....yet.Look ing at going back to work on Tuesday, but don't want to get rundown. Hope all are well.

Hi everyone,

Some of us are meeting for lunch at the Italian cafe on the corner of Osmond Terrace and The Parade at Norwood from 12 noon this Saturday (I think it is called Palazio or something similar). It used to be called Mama Camela's.
If you want to come and meet some other fellow banders come along.

Hi guys,

Just wondering if anyone has heard about a Mr Jacob Chisholm? I think that's how you spell it. My original surgeon has been changed, because he had to go in for surgery himself =/ back issues apparently. Couldn't find much on Google, so thought I'd take a shot in asking. I don't know if he's apart of the Circle of Care group??

Thanks

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Goodness Sarah, you are having a bad run. It will take days for the inflamation to settle down so hopefully you have gone back to nourishing fluids for a while. All this stress won't help either. I expect your doctor has told you to rest your band, your body and your mind and just let everything settle down. Give yourself a break for a few weeks then try small amounts of fill.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi all and Mack,

Mack, thanks very much for your message and your concern.
I went to the doc yesterday afternoon and I went for an Urgent Barium Swallow, which surprise, surprise was all ok. Today I had a CT scan this morning and then an endoscopy this afternoon and again, surprise, surprise it was all ok. So I am a giant mystery as to why I am getting all this pain. My doctor seems to think it must be just really severe irritation from the blockage. Last time my blockage was even worse and I never experienced any of this pain, but I only had 2ml of fill removed then, and this time I had the whole lot out. I'm wondering if it has something to do with the band being entirely deflated. I just don't know. As my doctor said, there really is no rhyme or reason to the way the band can behave. So I'm at home now and just resting and hoping this damn pain will ease soon. To top it all off today, I had to drink almost 1L of contrast for the CT scan (which was hell) and because I haven't really had any food in me for quite a few days this of course went straight through me and I ended up with bad diahorrea and then horrible cramping pain in my whole abdomen. As if I didn't have enough to worry about!!! Some buscopan and maxalon have seemed to settle this down and the nausea I had after the endoscopy.
Hope everyone is well.
Cheers, from the Mystery Woman, Sarah :)

Poor Sarah, your brain isn't working because it sounds like you are seriously dehydrated. Your message is just a bit confusing but if you have not been able to drink since having the fill removed yesterday please see your doctor again urgently or go to the local ED. Don't delay. Mack.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi guys,
Well I had a very disappointing, emotionally draining day yesterday. Since last Thursday I have been struggling to get most food down, and it has progressively gotten worse until last night when I couldn't even get water down. This morning I woke up with a throbbing headache and pain in my stomach so I went in to see my doctor. I had to have all my fill removed. I was so upset because I have just finally felt like I was in a good place. This happened to me at the end of last year and in June as well. So to say I've had enough is an understatement. I now have to give it a week or 2 until the swelling etc goes down to start all over again for the third time.
Since last night though when I started eating some soup for tea I started getting stabbing pain in my stomach, kind of like a bad stitch and then I got shoulder tip pain on the left side. It hasn't gone away since then. I had a cup of tea this morning and the pain got worse. I've called my doctor and have to go in there this afternoon. Has anyone had this before? I'm just a bit worried. Last time this happened and I had to have my fill out I didn't get all the pain so that's why I think it's really strange. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers, Sarah.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
HI daynarowntree

No probs -- I have just seen too many message boards taken over by sales people -- as I said if you were real then well done with weight loss.

I did go to one of these seminars and it was a sales job, it felt like an amway drive, and as I said my GP and surgeon have already refered me to dietician/physio so they all work as a team.

I agree with you tho, the more information you can get the better, just take the info and run before the sales stuff! Get the real info from your surgeon.

Bye Fy--
