Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Reallycurious,

There's no set amount the surgeons want patients to lose, per se. It is done on a case by case basis. Some doctors, like mine, don't even put their patients on Optifast. As a general rule, it seems that most surgeons have their patients on 2 weeks of Optifast. Optifast is a great way to shrink and cleanse the liver and get patients prepared for surgery.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hey all, I am having problems with my band in the sense that am doing all the right things (except getting on the scales every day) and in the past 2 days I have put on 1 kilo. How to kick a girl when she is already down!! I was banded 5 1/2 weeks ago and I was losing weight steadily, a kilo a week, but now I am not too sure what is going on. I have my first fill on Tuesday but I am really concerned that it was all for nothing. I am exercising on the Wii fit and doing a lot more excercise than I have done before but I am so depressed especially knowing that my friends are going great guns. Is there light at the end of this very dark tunnel, has anyone been here before?? Cheers Jellybean xx

Hi Brelly,

I am new to all of this. I had my first appointment today with Dr France and my surgery is booked for the 16th of Feb. How did you find Dr France? How much have you lost.

Serina, I'm also itchy. I just lightly rub my stomach like a cheater's scratch...lol. My port wound is scabbed over and dry so I guess its in the final stages of healing.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Serina. The itch is indicative of healing and yep can drive you nuts. Don't put anything on it like creams but if it does get too bad try putting a little cold compress on it - that can help. If it has become red and/or hot you need to see your Dr but you would have noticed that already. The itching is short term but the cold will help. Good luck. Fiona.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Good morning all,

I have been having issues for the last few days where my scar is seriously itchy. I dont want to scratch it and risk making the scar worse but it is driving me bonkers.
Any suggestions as to how i can reduce the itching.

Hi Sarah
I have more problems eating meat at tea, so I mostly cook tea and take it to work for lunch and have salads, chicken etc, just a light meal for tea. This seems to satisfy me and not make me feel over full.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi fatbottom gal
It's a good idea to ring the recruitment office to find out their requirements.
I would also enquire about the gastric sleeve as having as having a sleeve doesn't require being monitored by a doctor for fills and moving ports, so this procedure would be worth considering if the band is not ok.
I had the sleeve done 11 months ago and haven't looked back, I have lost 32 kg and now have my diabetes under control. Check Mr. Michael France website.

good luck

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Jillybeans,

That really s u c k s. My friend had the same thing happen but it flipped into such a way that they could still insert the needle at an odd angle. She is since on her 2nd band and port now (had the other one for about 8 years).

That is such a fear for me. Do they think exercise causes ports to unattach themselves?

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Sarah,
Hope this works for you! I was only banded 1 Dec last year so 6 weeks now and I have lost 10 kgs so far and I am starting to feel better even if I'm not looking it. Funny how our brains work - I feel lighter and more comfortable and my clothes are starting to become a problem with my trousers falling down but I see myself reflected in windows and mirrors and am shocked at just how fat I still am. I want to keep reassuring people that I have lost 10 kgs and still going and I won't always look like this! Frankly most people aren't looking at me at all I just feel like they are.

Cant afford new clothes for a while so will have to invest in a belt soon. I can already take one pair of trousers off without undoing the zip or button at all. :)

I too find that crunchy is good and I am loving the Burgen Rye bread toasted. Crunchy and very flavoursome so that keeps me happy. I have my next fill on the 22nd of this month so I hope that this time I start to feel full. I have days now where I am ravenous and I have to eat - admittedly only tiny amounts but it's full on hunger and stomach pains to tell me I am hungry.

I had to laugh at all the comments about furry teeth! I thought I was the only one! Well at least we are keeping the mouthwash companies in business in these hard economic times.

Sarah well done on maintaining at such a difficult time - if your like me you eat when stressed. (I envy women who stop eating when stressed). So you have done well to maintain so well!

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Fiona,

Thanks for that info. I think I have been trying to be a bit niave and eating meat, although i've been adding sauces and picking very tender cuts! Hmm I think I will try and stick to more of the casseroles, stews, mince etc and see if that helps.

I find that if something is crunchy then I can handle that ok, so dry biscuits are good for me. I think cos you can chew them into small pieces. I think occasionally I forget when I start my meal about chewing chewing chewing and thats when i get things stuff so I have to remember from the beginning.

When did you get your band? I've actually had mine since June 08, but have been through a tricky time seaparating from my husband so since about september i haven't been properly filled and have not lost any weight, only maintained. But I had a fill last week and already I can feel the difference so I'm happy about that! Thats why I don't want any fill out!

I had just finished work at midnight, thats why I was up then! Just on my way to bed.

Thanks for your advice
Cheers, Sarah :)

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
It had to come! I saw Dr yesterday and my port has completely done the turtle. It had always been mobile moving around and hard to get fills in but now it has turned upside down. So have to go in for day surgery to have it repositioned. Anyone else had this done?

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Whoops, Salisbury. Yes I meant that. I'm not that familiar with the northern suburbs. I just know that its closer to Whyalla than North Adelaide.

Forget calling what we're in as the "Liquids Phase". Should be: "Furry Teeth R Us Phase".

My mother has been doing all my cooking for me. She's here for another couple weeks. She seems intent on adding water and veg to with meat. I do have some curry sauces and laksa paste because I knew I'd get sick of plain soups. I will lobby for them for tomorrow...lol. I'm not normally this spoilt, so I will enjoy all her housework and cooking!

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Cat - I'm so glad I'm not the only one finding I've got furry teeth!! I don't want anyone to come near my breath at the moment.

As for soups being boring, go get some of the more exotic soups - Lamb Rogan Josh, Butter Chicken etc, and wiz them up in the blender until they are totally smooth, and then add water or milk until you get the right consistency. It's such a change from the normal "beef, chicken, vegetable" etc.

I don't know about Dr Leong having an office in Modbury, but he's got one in Salisbury.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Jellybean,

My new friend hasn't yet proven that its better than the old one (Mr Food Alot). I'm hoping that one day he will be my new best friend. Actually my tummy feels fine. Just stiff and sore and find sitting down/standing up uncomfortable. Not able to eat much.

Dreaming of mushies already. Liquids is so boring. Mind you my tummy couldn't fit mushies at this stage, so now I know the other reason we need to be on this phase.
