I never really stuck to a designated amount of fluid per hour - just sipped away (through a straw helps) throughout the day. It hasnt done me any harm just be sure not to drink for about 30 mins after you eat.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
hi ascotbks... yeha i went to the first one a week after my op, but i have not been able to make the ones at the stonyfell clinic due to work... (i took 2 weeks off post op)...

I started mushies today and had a weatbix with sustagen... interesting... its now 9.30 and i am at work and i just drank a glass of chilled water... i love my cold water.

can i ask anyone, are we meant to still be drinking in 100ml portions between meals? or can i just slowly sip away on a glass?

We are all very friendly and helpful on here. Also once a month a few of us catch up for dinner in Ingle Farm which is always good fun.
What area are you in?

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
hi again...I take a chewable multi each day...I use children's chewable and take two actually..one in the morning and one in the evening. My dietician said I could take tablets but I found that although I didn't get pain it wasnt comfortable...
I take sustagen (often sprinkled over low fat ice cream last thing in the day in the liquid stage). also v8 juices...jalna drinks were excellent too...breakfast or multi vitamin ones if in a hurry. I was banded at Flinders Private by Dr Low...she's VERY strict about her post op diet. I had to do liquids for 4 weeks and mushies are 2 (I am doing one mushie meal - breakfast - tomorrow although I officailly don't start mushies til wednesday). I could only drink 100mls every half an hour - two hundred mls per hour. Mushies I can have up to 500g per day - three meals only. I have been told 100 - 150 grams per meal. (which I know doesn't add up...go figure..!!). I have been told mushies can be a shock re constipation so I intend to up my benefibre and drink a little prune juice.
how are you going? who when and what? LOL..JUlie

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi everyone, I don't come on all that often. I was banded on Jan 21st so am now 3 and a half weeks post op. Have lost about 6 kilos or so. I am on mushie food from wednesday and can't wait although I am wondering about the challenge of 3 small meals a day. Am thinking of adding in a snack which was suggested in my circle of care group meeting. I have no regrets. My blood sugars have evened out (not craving carbohydrates!) and I find it easier to not think about food. I always find this forum good to come back to and just read through posts. I am going to try to get to the get together but life is busy so it may not be this one...
Good luck to those who have booked the operation..I definitely reccomend the two lists...10 mistakes you can make (on my fridge) and things to take to hospital. I reccomend getting a liquid panadol...and I take chewable multi's...despite the dietician saying pills are fine (and I can take pills)..I PREFER not to...
Cheers all....Julie...

email lade01@optusnet.com.au
I am pleased to hear from everyone how much they are getting out of our group, friends with mutual goals.
Everyone is scarced to start with that is very natural and talking to people who are at differnt stages really helps.
Hope you are all well and loosing slowly but surely.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Newlittlebear1,

I was banded on the 8th December 08 and it was the best thing I have done for my self esteem and confidence. I have only lost 7 kilos but the main thing is I am losing inches and my clothes are getting bigger. I too can also highly recomend you going to the cafe Uno and just talking to others, I am pretty sure that Colleen can tell you that she has got a lot out of the get togethers and she is getting it done soon. Yes we all get scared but the end result is great and surrounding yourself with people that have been there, or doing that is a great start to helping you feel at ease. Jellybean xx

Hi newlittlebear1

I am also in the process of undergoing lapband surgery, my surgery date is 30 March with Dr Leong. And yes I feel scared a times, it is a huge decision, and one I am sure you have not taken lightly. I strongly recommend the get togethers at Cafe Uno, I have found the people that I have met there very supportive and friendly.

Good luck on your journey to a new you

Colleen

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Newliitlebear,

i was not scared to get my band done, i knew it was the right thing for me, i have struggled my whole life to lose weight. yes i have lost it many times but it always came back and more. so to me my band Alias "my Friend" was my angel. i had my band in march 2006 my weight loss has been slow, but my dr is happy with that, i have now lost 35.6 kilos and have mantained this weight, and still losing. i have just had a tummy tuck for many reason self esteem and medical reasons.
i now run a lapband coffee chat and support group, we have a few Dr leong patients that do attend, and am presently trying to arranging a seminar for people with food issues, to why we eat. if interested go to salapband re info for the coffee and chat group and the seminar which we hope to start by the middle of the year.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Newlittlebear1,
everyone feels that same as you do when they start out. It is the best thing I have ever done for myself. Like you most of us are sick of forever trying to diet and then success for a few months and then it goes back on and sometimes even more... It is a big decision but one you need to commit to and don't be afraid... you are not alone. On the first Wedensday of the month there is a group that meets at Cafe Numero Uno at Ingle farm shopping centre at 6pm. We have a mixture people that have been bands or sleeves and of all ages. You will find the group very supportive and share openly anything you need to know. Email Donna at lade01@optusnet.com.au if you want to attend so she can book you a seat. She plans the get togethers. I will be there I think it is the 4th March. Keep you eye on the posts there are quite a few of us that go there that post on here..... Seeya Jillybeans53

Hi Jedassa,

I'm hanging out for my fill appointment next Friday. I've been really hungry all week long. Otherwise I am very happy with the banding and feel excellent. Went back to gym yesterday and felt brilliant. I have a light feeling when I walk around.

We will have to stay in touch regarding our fills. I'm curious to see how we feel and whether it goes smoothly.

All the best,
Cat

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
newlittlebear - I was banded on 06Jan09 by Dr Leong. I have lost 10kg so far, and will have my first fill on 20Feb. I was scared going into it all, even though I had 2 friends who had already gone through it. The morning after, I even asked my husband "have I done the right thing?". Admittedly his answer of "well it's too late now if you haven't!" wasn't the most satisfying, but yes, I have done the right thing.

Get as much information about the process as you can. Go along to an information session. Speak to those people you feel will support you. Don't forget that this board has a lot of people who have had problems, but who are still glad they had the operation and will give you a number of reasons why (for them) it was a very good thing. And for every person on here who has had problems, there are probably 10 (or more) who has just breezed through it all.

Information will probably be your greatest friend. Embrace it!

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi
this is my first time here and I am in the process of booking in for lap banding. I'm real scared about this as its a life style change forever. I really want this done as i have been dieting since i was 12years old. I really dont know what to expect. Dr Leong told me talk to family and friends and really think about the decision. I have and they are all happy for me. I really want this done. Did anyone else feel scared.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
hi all,

i don't usally post in this site i go on sa lapband, i run a lapband coffee and chat group. at this stage it is only open to females because of where we hold the meeting.
but we are are in the process of changing where we will hold it. we meet once a month on a tuesday night. no subject is not covered it is a very happy, nonjudjemental group.

i am in the talks with Dr Margaret Anderson and Dr Jill Benson, they want to hold seminars on why we over eat. and how to control our urges and to help understand why we do it to our selves. if you want any info or please post or go onto salapband@yahoo.com in the files. infor for the yearly program for the coffee and chat is also posted.

the seminars will commence in the middle of the year, it will be open to male and females, it does not matter if you have a band/bypass surgery or not.

regards sue
