Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hey Tink,

It's weird with surgeons - I find Professor Toouli fine, but then again I'm a bit of a smart-ass . I saw him a little over a week ago and our conversation went a little like this:

Toouli: "So, you've put on weight since we last met a year ago."
Me: "yep"
Toouli: "5kg is a lot to put on in a year"
Me: "I'm an over-achiever"
Toouli: "Certainly seems you are in this department"
Me: "You should see me avoid exercise - I kick ass at that"

Now don't get me wrong - I have a healthy attitude towards food and exercise, but something about him makes me want to make him believe I'm a sloth :)

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Tink / Happy Mum,

I have a friend who was banded a number of years ago and did not tell anyone she had it done. She has failed and wants to have the band removed. She only told me about it when I told her I was having it done. I cant help think that if she had told her friends she might have had more success with our support.

I know where you're coming from though Tink, I think it is a big part of being overweight. I always feel that people are talking about my weight behind my back.

My only concern when people knowis that if I fail, they will wonder why and probably be talking behind my back(I'm obviously paranoid!!!)

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Thanks Dana,
Sometimes I still feel like I'm failing. It's slow going, thats for sure.
I do work, manual labour, so I had 4 weeks off work and I'm glad I did, cause even when I went back it exhausted me!!
Just take it easy and don't over do it!
I have to say I lived on frozen meals for a while, I found them so easy.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Tink,
I started off only telling a couple of people, but word soon got around!! One of my family members kindly stood up at xmas lunch and informed the entire family, including some non-family members!! I was not impressed. I have a difficult time lying to people, so when they ask how I've lost weight, I tend to blurt it out without even thinking!! Sometimes I regret it afterwards, but I can't take it back.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
I have found talking to all of you on here and reading the threads a great support. Your time will come Tink. Hang in there.

I decided to tell my friends and family because I wanted their support and also I did not want to end up in situations where I was looking for excuses for not wanting to eat things that I could or shouldnt have.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Tink/Happy Mum,
I reckon that is the same as me re the fills. The gap paid covers the fills for a period of time. I think the anaesthetic fried my brain lol I cant seem to remember much lately ...

H/M congrats on a great weightloss.

So far I am doing ok. I seem to be adjusting well, but then I have been at home resting since my surgery. I go back to work on Monday and I guess being back in the swing of things might have more of an impact on me.

I am tring to be very organised and have meals pre-prepared and lunches organised to keep on top of things.

Do you both work?

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Tink,
I'm fine, just tired. My fills don't cost anything, I paid Leong a $1,000 gap to cover all costs for 2 years.

Anuverbandit,
Yes, banded in January 07. Have lost 15-17 kgs, but still struggling with the not eating when your not hungry thing!!
You sound like your doing ok. You adjusting ok?

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Happy Mum,
That is strange. But yes, everyone is different and yes it most important to find the doc you like, trust and respect because this is a very important step that we take.
Cheers

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Dana,
It's strange isn't it, as I found Bessell rude and arrogant towards me. I'm glad he's not like that to all his patients though. I suppose everyone is different and if we were all the same the world would be a very boring place!!! I think thats the key, find the doc you like, trust and respect (and it's mutual)
Cheers,
happy mum

Tink,

Fair Nuff, Don't let the doc get to you. They are just a small part of what is going to be a bright new future for you. Just remember you are doing this for yourself and hold your head up high.

Happy Mum,

Have you been banded or are you still waiting?
I find that since my banding, although it has only been 2 1/2 weeks I have been very tired.
