Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Best of luck for tomorrow. Dont be surprised if you have to wait all day till surgery cos Mr. Leong is consulting too tomorrow I have my post op appt at midday. My surgery w as around 6pm 6wks ago and was told 3 different times on the day. Apparently sometimes he even operates at 9pm. The surgery itself is the easy part. Wishing you all the best, and interested in how it goes. Love Mags.

I met with Dr LEong at the end of Feb and have my surgery tomorrow. He is a really nice man. Very efficient. Little nervous about tomorrow but I know this will be life changing.I rang every Doctor on the lapband list and found out their waiting times cost etc. Dr Leong was my favourite pick for all areas cost, flexibility etc. Central Districts staff are really lovely..

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Thank-you Colleen, I have been buying vitamins but I am going to have a problem with protein during the liquid stage, I cannot tolerate milk and I have discovered that protein meal replacments are milk based. I have bought some protein powder and I am going to have a go at putting that in fruit juice, the adverage daily requirement is about 50g for a woman, so I will use that as a guide. I can't wait for surgery, I love reading everyone's posts, good and bad, they are so motivating.

Hi Skinnychook

I am starting to get prepared buying food, vitimins etc that I will need after the surgery, are you?

People are asking me all about the procedure now and long term goals etc, where as before I had some quite negative comments made. Have you told people what you are having done?

Anyway I will probably see you in hospital but if I don't

Good Luck with your surgery

Hi Everyone
Just a quick note to say thank you to everyone who turned up to Cafe Uno tonight, it was a great night once again.
Because our group is growing we may change location next month to Grand North Sports Bar as we can have a private area, not to big but will be able to hear each other better.
I am also seeing wether it could work for us to walk around their oval???? you may or may not want to, so I will keep you informed.
Thanks again for all being so nice
Donna

Hi Kez

Glad to hear your fill went well [sort of], I couldn't get to the dinner tonight as my daughter was in a basketball final. Bet it was good as usual.

Kez,

Mr Leong is overseas for the whole month of March, that's why you can't see him again for a while. I also tried to get him to see me sooner! lol

I get that bloated tummy thing also.

Sandy,

I waited 12 months. You think you can't at first, but I did and actually I needed that time to get my head around it all. It was a big step.

Some people use their super to pay for the op. Not sure how that works out.

Hi Kez

Fistly congratulations on losing 24kgs and good luck with your fill.

I am having an endoscopy today, like you, I am a patient of Dr Paul Leong. Not sure how he chooses who needs one or not, as I also had my gallbladder removed years ago.
I will have to remember to ask him.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
My brides maid sister had the surgery a year ago and has lost over 50kg. She is in Qld, and she pointed my to this site.
I rang my health fund, and I don't qualify without increasing my cover. Has anyone been impatient enough not to wait, and what is the expense that way. I do not want to wait a year.

Kez, 24 kg! Wow!

I'm also looking forward to my next fill. Only 7 weeks to go...lol

I have a goal of losing at least 8 kilos by then. As I'm home sick today, I guess I will be starting that tomorrow or the next day? lol My gym membership is good until April.

No laband dieticians in the country. However, you may want to ring them and have a chat.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Thanks Jill, I didn't realise Mr Leong had changed his practices.

He can usually book surgery for 2-3 months ahead, however you'd normally wait 6-8 weeks to get your initial apointment.

Regarding the dietician. There are no lapband dieticians and they usually do group sessions anyway so you'd be with other people who don't have a band. It really isn't suitable. I have waited a long time now and I wish I had taken it more seriously before the banding.

Mr Leong is a very skilled surgeon, yes. He offers a basic package - other surgeons offering a dietician, psychologist, etc, on site. His dietician is Penny and she holds group sessions for pre and post banding.

My expectations of the band have been far superceded. I feel brilliant most of the time and have lost 25 kilos through both pre and post op methods. 15 kilos are post op over the past 8 weeks. Being committed to change your habits is very important as it isn't a cure all, but a wonderful tool.

I'm probably rambling. I've been unwell this weekend. Hope this helps.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Sandra, I think Dr Leong now does an edoscopy before your lapband surgery. I Had mine done july 08 and I was the same as Cat no endoscopy surgery before hand it was done on the day. I think he does it beforehand now to avoid any delays on the day of lapband surgery. If you have the endoscopy before hand he knows what to expect when you have the surgey and if he needs to allow extra time he can. Nothing worse than waiting in your gown to go in an being delayed for an hour or more because somebody has a hernia that he didn't know about.
He also opertes at Central districts hospital at Elizabeth south. That is where I had mine done.
all the best Jill
