Hey Fiona,

I think you're right - it's hard to know what 'full' feels like. I think I do know, and I know I've felt it before - but I wonder if what I've felt is 'over full' rather than full, you know what I mean?

I think at the moment everything is just sliding through to the large part of my stomach, rather than sitting in the pouch like 'normal' food would, so I guess that explains it.

I just need to try and control my portions myself I guess.

I can't wait to feel it though :)

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Narinna,

I was talking about this with a friend of mine tonight, who also has weight issues...and we both believe we have never felt a normal "full" feeling in our lives.

I feel hunger, and sometimes I feel bloated and slightly ill, but thats about it. I mentioned it to my surgeon and she said "it will come".

I won't be holding my breath, but I will be eating from a bread & butter plate and trying to control portions.

It is worth mentioning your concerns to your doc, but I imagine if it had slipped you would be in some added discomfort. Hope so anyway...or I may be in big trouble :)

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hey gang? How are we all?

Well I'm nearly two weeks banded now... and I must say - I hardly even know I have the damn thing :(
I'm eating some mushies already (well anything i can mush/liquify in my mouth before I swallow) and today I even tried mushed up pasta.... but nothing! No restriction, no full feeling :(

It's like when I eat, the hunger stops, but the full feeling never kicks in :(

What if it's slipped or something? :(

I work as a Nurse in A Doctors surgery, and I took 2 weeks off. As happy mum said it depends on what you do for work. I would recommend 2 weeks if you can have it especially if you work full time.

Karen,
Depends what you do for work. I took 4 weeks off, but I do alot of manual labor. If you've got a desk job 1-2 weeks would probably be ok.
Good luck with your op. Pretty exciting at this stage isn't it?
Take care,
happy mum :o)

Hi All,

3 days to go. I had a big roast for tea tonight. Pizza for tea tomorrow night. I'm on Atkins shake for breakfast and lunch, its cheaper than optislim and has more protein.
Bring it on.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
To the new bandits,
Liquid diet is anything you can suck up a straw :o)Just vitamize and add extra liquid.
I had spaghetti bolognaise, just add extra stock/tomato.
Tuna mornay, add extra milk.
Nacho's mix (no corn chips) add extra tomato.
Potato and Parmesan soup, so yummy :O)
Vegetable and lentil soup.
Roasted vegetables pureed into a creamy sauce, yum :o)

Obviously the further on you become, the chunkier you can leave it!!

* If your really lazy and hate cooking, you can do the same with tinned ravioli, spaghetti or lean cuisine meals etc.

I love cooking, so I suggest experimenting, thats what I did :o)
If anyone want recipes I'm happy to help, but I'm not great at following recipes, so these are 'mystyle' and I can only judge measurements etc.

Happy Cooking and welcome to the bandits :o)

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Guys,
Not staying on tonight, just wanted to say hi to everyone.

LORRAINE, get hold of info(books, mag articles, web sites etc) and show your hubby!! Lap banding is nothing like stomach stapling, it's much safer and your life style is pretty much the same as it is now, except healthier :o)
My husband was the same until I showed him info and explained how positive it would be for me and in some ways for him.. not to be rude but most people that are over weight are self conscious, so needles to say your s*x life suffers and you feel unattractive etc. If all else fails, get him on here :o) I think when he reads how happy bandits are he will change he's tune.

Hi to Dana, Haley, Zo, Bloss etc,etc I hope you are all doing well.
Catch everyone soon,
take care,
happy mum1970 :o)

Karen (Librakaz)

It does seem to take a while. I spent the first four weeks feeling really tired and low, but as soon as I started taking vitamins I was fine. Perhaps your sister needs some vitamin supplements? Some surgeons insist that you take them as soon as you are banded, others aren't so fussed by the sound of it - and mine was one of the latter.

I was banded 8th May, and now (except for a few new scars) I wouldn't know I had it in. Will feel it when I get my first fill though I hope!

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Zee,

I started blending foods around 2 weeks post op - but you could really start as soon as you feel as though some of the swelling has gone down...which is pretty much when you start to feel actually hungry. As long as you blend it really well and add plenty of liquid to it, you should be ok.

Funny you should say that about the teeth...I was having the same trouble, but I don't know why. It has settled down now though - so yours should too. Those Listerine strips came in very useful for a while - you could try those :)

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hi Everyone,

5 days to go till I become a bandit. Was feeling great till I heard my sister was having a bad day at day 7 post op.

Does it take a while for the body to adjust to not eating the same volume of food eg feeling weak and lethargic ?

Hi lillie73,

I too am to be banded on August 8th, so I was interested in where and who your Doctor is. Perhaps we could support each other. My doctor is Tom Wilson. I find out soon whether I have my band at Flinders or Ashford.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Hey Zees,

I'm 1 week and 3 days post op, and I've had a bit of really runny mashed potato with mashed up baked beans in it.

You can blend/mash anything, as long as you could fit it up a straw. I just chew the mashed potato in my mouth until it's liquid before I swallow.

Hope that helps

At what stage are you blending the pasta and other meals? I am 1 week 2 days post op and sick if fluids....

Has anyone got really bad breath since the operation? What is this caused from and when does it go away? Brush 2 times a day and teeth still furry...

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Well the spaghetti went down fine i didnt have much meat just incase but the pasta and sauce was fine.I just had a vewry small bowlk as it was really filling I only ate half of what I served myself which was a quarter of what I served my hubby. But I really enjoyed what I did have.
I dont know about you but I find breakfast the hardest and my band feels the tightest then.Breakfast and lunch are really a non event consisting of yoghurt and half a piece of vegemite toasted wholegrain bread and lunch has been a cup of soup or rice crackers with weight watchers cheese and sliced tomato. The rest of the day I'm like Dana if i feel hungry I am drinking a glass of water and then waiting and if I still feel hungry Ive been having a handful of almonds chewed really well.

Hi Sonya
I have just started the process for a lap band, to be banded on the 8th august. my dr recommended julie dundon at nutrition professionals on salsbury highway (second office in town 8227 1000). she was informative and knew a lot about banding. she even went on optifast to see what it was like. you could try her if you wish.

Re:Adelaide Banding Reply to this message
Thanks Fiona and Dana, I'll give those ideas a go :) You're right - it's definitely restricting!

I bought some quiche today and just chewed tiny bits of it in my mouth until it was liquid lol. It was much more satisfying!

Do you have a particular recipe for veggie soup you'd like to share Dana? I'm always up for trying new recipes :o)
