Congradulations on your big acheivment, and you are very right,it is very hard and not to many people give us credit for the effort it takes.I have lost a total of 77kg now and it has gotten harder from 50kg on. Hang in there and give yourself a big pat on the back. As for Dr Hopkins he will praise you but only when you don't exspect it. I have had more knockers than you can poke a stick at, mainly family and freinds saying i took the easy way, but Dr Hopkins was the one who told me how proud i should be for my efforts.

WOW, I don't feel so bad anymore. I thought it was just me. I recently saw George and I after hopping on the scales I discovered that I have lost over 50 kgs. I was so excited and thought that he might be too. His comment was "well don't expect it to be easy to lose anymore". NONE of the kilos I have lost have been EASY. I have worked very hard. Wouldn't it be nice if he encouraged his patients instead? Oh well, I am not doing it for him, I am doing for me and that's all that matters I guess.

Reading these posts reminds me of that saying - What's the difference between God and a surgeon? God knows he is not a surgeon.

Hi I to feel that it is a rush when having a fill, but I have to stand up for George on 2 things, He has always made himself available when there was a blockage and he is by no means the most exspencive. I feel as long as the band is doing what it is supposed to and the Dr is there when theres a problem Thats all that counts.PS and the weight is coming down.

Re:Dr George Hopkins - Brisbane Reply to this message
Its interesting to hear similar stories... its such a shame, when you put your trust into a doctor and pay $19 000 for surgery and you dont get good follow up, and upon saying that even if i had gone through the public system to have my operation i would still want more of Georges time. It will be interesing to see what George's attuitude will be like on Thursday when i go for my fill and let him know how I am feeling about the lack of after care. Does anyone know of a good surgeon in the south brisbane/ipswich area?

You're on the public list though aren't you? You kind of expect rushed appointments and surgery cancellations when you're getting done on Medicare (shouldn't happen I know but that's the public hospital system). Dr Hopkins rushes you when you pay to see him as a private patient and that's what Bailey complained about.

Re:Dr George Hopkins - Brisbane Reply to this message
I don't think you're overly sensitive at all. I went to see him about getting banded and the appointment was just so rushed. He took two phone calls and left the room twice to do fills which the nurse in an adjacent room had lined up for him. I think if you pay good money (and he knows how to charge good money) then you should get his full attention. Same with the fills. You pay for a 15 minute consult and you should have all that time available to you if you need it.

He just runs a production line and obviously double-books appointments thinking it's ok to rush in and do fills while he's seeing other patients. Neither patient gets proper attention. Some people swear the sun shines out of him and because of his 'reputation' make all manner of excuses for the very rushed service he provides. Needless to say I didn't go back to him.

Re:Dr George Hopkins - Brisbane Reply to this message
Hi Bailey

Your comments sound like some other doctors who take on more than they can manage. I went to an Information Seminar last week, the doctor bragged about banding over 2,000 patients.I'd taken a few people to that seminar who weren't banded, 1 was turned off the doctor because she said that if he has 2,000 banded patients apart from other patients, how could he have the time to provide the quality after care required.

I'm fortunate, my doctor has a team like most do, at the very first appointment I saw him, his staff then co-ordinated the team to see me all on the 1 day.

Whenever I have a fill my surgeon does it & nearly four years since banded I can't speak highly enough of his personal care. The 2 most important people I need to feel comfortable with is the anaesthetist because he's the one going to keep me breathing during the op & surgeon because he's going to be slicing & stitching me, seeing these doctors prior to the team is essential to me.It's a waste of my time & money seeing a dietitian, psychologist, cardiologist & exercise physiologist, then finally meet the surgeon who I might not feel comfortable with.

Even Vicki's (staff) attitude seem incomprehensible to me, my doctor's staff bend over backwards to ensure their patients get the service they deserve & don't leave.

Last year I was hospitalised for a non-banded problem, the stress of the illness caused my band to tighten causing frequent blockages.I rang my surgeon's staff because he'd previously told me not to go to the public hospital for unfills because there was no one experienced to do it & I'd be putting my band at risk to be damaged having an inexperienced doctor e.g. Orthopedic Surgeon remove my fill.I got a shock 1 hour later, my own surgeon came into my room to remove my fill, I was in a Public Hospital & he doesn't even work there. He refused to accept payment & wouldn't even Bulk Bill me.

You are neglected, not selfish or overly sensitive.

Leanne

Re:Dr George Hopkins - Brisbane Reply to this message
Hello

I had my surgery on the 12th of March 2008 and as selfish as it may sound I'm feeling a bit neglected by Dr Hopkins at the moment. Yes I realise he is a very busy man but for the amount of money that you pay for surgery I have probably all up had about 20 minutes one on one time with George and each time i get a fill (which cost $130.00) I either dont see George or see him for 30 seconds. I am actually thinking about going to see a new Dr for my fills but really dont want too as its quiet a personal thing but after mentioning my situation to Vicki on the phone today she didnt seem overly worried that i would be going to another Dr and said that if I decided too they would be more than happy to forward on my information..... Has anyone had this situation or am I just being overly sensitive????

Hi everyone

I've been watching some of that cruddy daytime TV in the mornings lately and saw an ad for the Mountain Bread Cookbook and decided to buy one online ... I searched for it tonight and it can be freely downloaded here:

http://www.mountainbread.com.au/UserFiles/PDF/Moun tainBreadCookbook.pdf

Could definitely be worth a look as I really enjoy Mountain Bread these days having given up bread, but you get over plain old wraps sometimes.

Kristy =)

Re:Dr George Hopkins - Brisbane Reply to this message
hi its deb again yeah when i got my letter it kind of reads that you will be told your surgery date, when i went for my preop i was excited that i would get a date and they handed me some forms for a chest xray and to get bloods done when i get a date and i was told that i would receive a letter in the mail when my date was i was disappointed cos the letter does insinuate that you will get the date, but think of it this way at least you have your preop, you are on a roll now. is it possible for you to email me your number to blonde_chicks_rule@hotmai l.com i would love to talk to you more about this i have been waiting so long for someone else to be getting done at the rbwh by doctor hopkins. its ok if you dont want to i will understand. deb
