Hi Leeanne - just wanted to ask you what 'iykwim' stands for? I've seen it used a few times but have no idea what it refers to!

all our surgeons have slightly different regimes but the same principals
if your newly banded then its usually liquids as in soup etc for the first 2-4 weeks depending on your surgeon
then progress to mushies
it isnt so much its going to affect the way you feel going onto mushies early....more the fact of the healing time needed for your tummy and new pouch iykwim
the liquids soups etc are to give time to heal....so there isnt any heavy food in our pouches therefore advoiding any problems with the healing etc
it can be a difficult time some of us had to do the soups thing for 4 weeks....groan...i remember it well

Hey Ren,
I was told 2-3 weeks on the liquid diet... although the morning after my op the hopsital gave me muesli for brekkie.. So im confused what should I be doing? The book my dr gave me also says that after day one I can progress to muschies and another he gave me says 2 weeks... Ive been having liquid and mushies and seem fine... although my muchies is mum getting some BBQ chicken, potato, peas, carrots and gravy and blending it into baby food (so yum!)... is this ok? I havent had an issue with it.
Also how much is the right amount to be eating, sometimes its 100mls, but its mostly about 50-80 mls...

Day 5 of mushies today. have discovered a couple of great high protein snacks:
1)Tuna & Cottage cheese cruskits:
Spread your favourite cruskit with Bulla Gherkin Cottage Cheese. Add spreadable sandwich tuna. Add finely chopped rocket and thinly sliced red onion to taste.
2) Smoked salmon & cottage cheese cruskits:
Layer finely chopped lettuce on your favourite crusket.
Dollop a teaspoon or two of Bulla Onion & Chives Cottage Cheese onto the lettuce. Add a few slices of Smoked Salmon. Top with a sprig of fresh dill.
These have been ok for me, others might not be able to tolerate it. I just make sure I have samll bites and chew it well. |

Nic,
Just take it slow at the gym at first and build up your work out over time. You don't want to do yourself a damage as I have already said, you are still healing.

nmd,
It is quite common to put on weight during the mushies stage, especially considering how much weight you have lost. it's your body just holding on to everything that's going in. it will settle and one you start getting good restriction the weight will again start going down.
don't panic at this stage, .5kg could even be just a bit of fluid. This time is all about healing and I think you're doing a great job so far.

| Hi NM....Putting on weight at this stage is no big deal and common. This period is for healing and letting the band settle into it's poition so don't be concerned.Take it reasonably easy..no straining...eat healthy foods and once you get some restriction..IT WILL HAPPEN..all the best.col |

Hi everyone.
Hope you are all well and enjoying your bands. I had surgery on 31 March and had lost 14.7kgs since the start of the 2wk opti (10kgs opti and the rest post op).... BUT!!!!!! I noticed this week that I have put on 500grms since starting mushies.
Is this just normal because my body hasn't eaten food for a while. I have weetbix or a yoghurt for brekkie. tin of tuna for lunch, and either tuna or mushed up eggs for dinner and i dont snack and am drinking only water.
I know I shouldn't be too hard on myself but dang!!!!! .5kg gain.... not a nice surprise....
sorry for the rant...

Just discovered "Kid Kitchen" microwaveable meals. Alot smaller than the other microwaveable meals on the shelves though still not sure if I'll get through a whole one...
Flavours:
mini beef ravioli
spaghetti & mini meatballs
cheesy mac & beef
sound yummy.
Also am loving Greenseas tuna snackpots (snall pots of spreadable tuna with mayo) and Greenseas tuna flakes sandwich spread with either seeded mustard mayo or mayo & sweetcorn (mayo is already in it). Yum |

| i found the liquid stage ok, i had my family and a close friend make soup for me so the variety was good. i also had smothies and juices. my orders were 2 weeks liquid then 2 weeks mush. I do believe you should give it your best shot and follow your surgeons advice. |

| i was banded on the 3rd of April. I am hating the liquid stage i have had a little mushies already i know that is bad but it is not affecting in a bad way, im not silly about it! Does any one think this is wrong cause some docs say only 1 week where as others say go straight onto mushies. |

Lidy,
we are all supposed to be given guidelines by either our surgeon or one of his team.
Mushies for me were:
breakfast: 1/2 cup porridge, or one of those small flavoured satchels of porridge and a chai latte.
snack: Pureed fruit, 1/2 cup
Lunch: Braised steak and veggies mix with baked beans or instant mashed potato with a chicken stock cup and cheese melted through it. Up to a cup.
snack: cruskit with creamed cheese and mushed up banana or strawberries.
Dinner: whatever the family was having blended.
I also made sure I was sipping on heaps of water during the day as well. |

| Monique - you may have more luck posting this on the liquid stage as people on the mushies stage if they are anything like me never want to see optifast again LOL |

Hey guys,
I'm about 8 months down the track, and I've lost 20kg (I'm a tall girl at 174cm so I only need to get down to about 75kg - five more to go!
Anyway, I have a whole bunch of Optifast that I don't need anymore, and I'm happy to sell it for a cheapy price...
I have about 20 vanilla and 15 choc shakes which have a used-by date of Aug 09. I also have three bars (three diff flavours), mixed vegie soup X 3, chicken soup X 4 and 6 strawberry shake which are all used by Feb-March 09 (although I think they'll be fine, it's all sealed up and it's just powder...)
I'm happy to the lot for $80 incl. postage, which I think is a steal 'cause the shake boxes along are about $45 a pop. I am located in Newcastle, so if there's any locals I'm happy to bring it to them, but otherwise I'll post. Payment would be direct debit into my account.
Please e-mail me at monique.hughes@gmail.com if you want them, and good luck! Trust me, it's worth it in the long run. |

You seem to know lots and lots about meals for lap band, would you mind posting a typical days menu during the mashie stage and there after.
Also when they suggest what you eat are there any particular sizes, or is it all due the the size of the band?
Manythanks for your expert advise. |

Lindy,
I used steak and veggies. Any brand I suppose is good but I used the one from Aldi. If you are only one week banded then blend it up so there are no lumps and thin it down with beef stock. Warm it in the microwave.

I felt that way too , Pyretta posted some ideas that helped. I of these was to blitz some baked beans with tomato soup to thin them down. Not only did it help 'fill me up' but it helped with the other end also :)
Another was the potato bacon and leek soup, i made it just a touch thicker than probably recommended . Hope this helps
