Thanks Smudge!!

I'll let you know how I go with this - look super yummy & easy too - can't wait for mush-ville!

Totally agree with you about the 4 ingredient cookbooks - they are fantastic and I will certainly be utilising them alot more over the coming months.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
For Huggy and anyone else!

Chicken, Mushroom & Asparagus Risotto
2 cups Arborio rice
2 tblspns oil
300g chicken breast fillets (I used thigh cos they're not as dry)
2 cups button mushrooms (careful when eating, make sure you mush!)
1 med Onion
half cup White wine (optional)
5-6 cups Warm chicken stock
1 bunch Asparagus, trimmed and halved
third cup Grated parmesan
2 tblspns Cream (optional)
Seasoning Salt & Pepper to taste

(That's the official recipe above, but I also added a couple of carrots and celery stick for more veggies)

Heat half the oil in moderately high heat fry chicken and mushrooms until chicken is lightly browned 3-4 mins). Remove from pan
Reduce heat slight and fry onion for 2 mins in remaining oil. Add rice and cook for 2 mins, stirring continuously. Add wine (if using) and stir until absorbed (I used a bit of stock here instead of the wine).
Add 1 cup of stock at a time, stirring until absorbed before the next cup. Continue until rice is tender 25-30 mins. Stir in chicken, mushrooms and asparagus for the last 5-10 mins.
Stir in parmesan, parsley and cream (Optional) - serve immediately after mushing
Serves 4 - I actually froze some of mine (unmushed) and it came out fine when whizzed up with a bit of extra chicken stock.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Been on Mushies for 4 days now, and its just so nice to be able to have some variety... Butter Chicken and rice, Chilli Con Carne, Tuna & potato, and spag bol tonight... Been making (and whizzing) more than I need then freezing them in a mu**in in pan (perfect 1/4 cup) for future... Dont be afraid to experiment... while it might not look that apetizing, it tates great and just whizz things up separately and you'll be fine

Hi Lara, I went for my 1st appointment, I am booked for 13th October. My hubby has come round to it. I am so excited about it. I think he can see that I really want this and it will benefit the both of us LOL. The surgeon is really nice I have had 2 appointments in the last 2 days as the surgery is happening so quick. There happened to be a cancellation for that day... Lucky me. I made a heap of soup and am getting prepared. Thanks for the support. I will keep you up to date.Kerryn

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Thanks Karen,

I'm definately going to err on the side of caution.

The fish or baked beans sound good - and a mushed up egg and mayo is the stuff of dreams at the moment!

I know it's only another week but on top of the pre-op shake diet it has now been so long since I've had REAL food.

Sob.....

i went by the theory that if you can mash it and/or cut it with a fork you can eat it. you will soon know if its too big as you can feel it going down.
I stuck with fish or baked beans mashed up for the first few days or even mushed up egg was great.
Good Luck
Karen..

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi Everyone,

Just need a bit of advice about the mushies stage.

I'm not up to this for another week but am wanting to get orgainised with the shopping and cooking and freezing so I'm all org *** ed.

I am a bit confused as to exactly how 'mushie' the food needs to be! I get that the liquids phase was 'anything that can fit up a Macca's straw' but is there a general rule of thumb for the mushies.

i.e. if I did a chicken curry or tuna mornay would my portion of these need to be whizzed to pureed liquid with extra liquid thrown in?

Can anyone understand what i'm asking?

Sorry, only banded 7 days and still in a state of flux!

xxHuggy

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi Kerrynturrell. I'm not up to the mushies for another 3-4 days, but when I read your post I had to reply. my Hubby was the same, (i love you the way you are). he came to my 1st appointment with me and after hearing all the risks involved was dead against it. But like the surgeon said I was more at risk of sickness being morbidly obese than having the surgery. It took about 6 hours for him to come round after I told him I wanted to grow old with him and see our kids grow up. He is now so happy i had it done. Every time he see's me in nickers and bra's he say's i'm shrinking. haha.I now feel fantastic and have more confidence and I've only lost 13 kilos so far. Another 30 to go. If it's your dream don't let go of it. your doing this for you. keep us updated. Lara. xo

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi all, am new to this...I have booked myself to see a surgeon so it's only my first visit. My friend has just had the lapband done and is just doing great. She is a new person and it has only been 2 weeks. I am so excited/nervous about doing this, but have been a size 20 for the last 10 years and want to get back to my normal 12/14 size. I have tried every diet you can think of, get the results for a short time then go back to old habits...It's hard when your husband can eat what he likes and still looks good. I am just so keen to do this and am trying to get hubby keen, he tells me he loves me no matter....But I don't love the way I am..I Want to be a yummy mummy!!! Bring on the 22nd for my first appointment!!!

Hi, have just started on the mushies stage, soooo nice to have some real food. Started with mashed avocado & cottage cheese. Had some mashed potato for dinner, this morning I had a scrambled egg. Only having very small amounts approx 1/2 cup at a time & having slowly.
Going back to work tomorrow!!

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Thanks Mrs Bear - (so cute!)

I will have to check Aldi out - $25 what a bargain! My hubby said to me the other night why don't you get a Bamix or something really good? I looked up a Bamix and told him they are about $200! He nearly died but he is just so worried about me getting a lump stuck that he wants me to get the best blender possible I think!!!

Aldi was selling the magic bullets for about 25 dollars. I use them at work to vitamise patient food and they are very quick and easy to use. I made do with a stick blender at home though and it did the job

By the way I had my first fill yesterday and only 4 weeks post op:) Mr Nottle was very pleased with my progress 18 kilos now;)

Hi ImagineMe,

So you're almost banded a few weeks now? I'll have to go back and see what you've written about the last few weeks. I alternate between being totally terrified and then on the other hand, wishing the operation was tomorrow! I KNOW I'm making the right decision and will try and tackle the speedhumps with that thought in the forefront of my mind.

Enjoy your shopping and cooking. I too am hoping to be confident about being in photos this Christmas, I will be 4 months banded by then so should have 10-15% weight loss.Reading these posts I find it amazing that we all have similar fears, and similar hopes and dreams.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Thanks so much for the replies - I have learnt so much from this forum over the past 3 years (yes, it's taken me THAT long to take the plunge....3 years and two kids and many extra kilos later).

Will get to Target or Big W tomorrow and pick up a handheld blender stick thingo.

Then onto my weekend of cooking! I am making meals as well to do me for my 2 weeks of mushies and the receipe thread has been invaluable for my planning.

I really hope to have a sucessful sugery and am hopeful that this Xmas I might actually want to be in a photo or two with my beautiful kids.

Thanks again for the replies!

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
for me,

I used a hand held stick blender for this stage, even the cheapest one will do. I think mine was $14 from the supermarket, and yes Tuna mornay does freeze.

Hi just_for_me
I used a hand held stick blender and it was great. I cooked normal food for everyone else and whizzed my portion at each meal. I whizzed leftovers for quick meals.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Hi All,

I am due to be banded 17/9/09 (8 sleeps to go!) and wanted to ask a couple of questions re the Mushies.

Is an investment in one of those Magic Bullet things necessary or is a handheld stick blender thing okay? Does anyone have a brand they would recommend?

Also, I'm cooking up a storm on the weekend to see hubby and the little ones through a couple of weeks of me not cooking - does Tuna Mornay freeze okay?

Thanks for any advice,

xx just_for_me

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Karen,

Coming to a standstill at this stage is very common. The weight loss will happen again once you start getting fills and find a good spot for you to be at. It may just take a little time.

I'm pretty sure if your doc is happy with the way you have healed and if you let him know how hungry you are then you'll get a fill tomorrow. Most docs ask us to go back to liquids/mushies for a few days and then gradually introduce normal foods.

Be patient and best of luck.

Pyretta

hi all, i am 4 weeks banded and still eating softish food. i find i can eat most things but am being careful with quantities etc. i havent lost or gained any weight for nearly a week. it was dropping off so well( about 1 to 3kg aweek) and now although i am still being good nothings happening.i am now really hungry so i guess its time for a fill. have doc appt on thurs so do you think he will put some fill in?
What do you eat after a first fill? Do you think i will start losing again soon. Am getting a bit worried i wont lose any more. I have been really good and getting disappointed with no loss. I kow its a long journey but i would like a little loss to keep me motivated.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Ty for your advice Pyretta, I just got back from the hospital, and they contacted my surgeon. She came in and removed the 2ml, and will bring forward my next appt. She just said these things can happen, and that I just have to rediscover what I can tolerate and what I can't. She said that next fill( refill) will only be 1.5ml instead of 2ml, and we go from there. Again, thankyou for telling me to get in touch with hospital. I probably wouldn't have bothered til tomorrow and more damage could have been done. cheers Robin

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
robyn,

It may be inflamed down there now. try and leave it overnight and if you can't get anything down in the morning I strongly suggest you get yourself off to a hospital or someone who can remove a little fill until things improve.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Ty Pyretta I have tried the coke zero, hoping that it would shift whatever it is that is blocked, but so far no luck. I'm on my 2nd can, and it just keeps coming up. Hopefully enough will stay down there long enough to break down whatever it is. darned if i know what it is, hubby and i went out for dinner Saturday night, and i had no problems, just ate meal very slowly, then yesterday i had a plate of vegies, whilst hubby had corned beef and vegies, and i couldnt keep them down. I trid the water trick, to wash them through, but since then anything i eat or drink is returned faster than it went down.
