Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I am just wondering what sorts of food people are eating on the mushies phase? I assume things like mashed vegies are ok. What else is ok? I am still on liquids but cant wait to get on to something different!

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
You would be better off having a week to recover, but that depends on the person so much. As it seems you have no choice (unless your surgery is rescheduled), then I guess you will just face up to work on Monday with some medication in hand and you will cope. As long as you are careful, it shouldn't be too much of a problem - just try to rest up as much as you can post-op and be very careful with how much liquid you have at a time. You will HAVE to follow the rules to get a good recovery.

As your job is probably not so physical, I'm sure with some medication to help you through it will be fine.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Just wondering how long it took everyone to recover? I am getting banded tomorrow, but I start my new job on Monday! This was totally unavoidable, and now I am worried I won't be well enough by Monday. It is only a reception job, so nothing too physical!

Maria,

Funny part (or sad depending on your point of view) about that is that I have nothing "to get back to"! Maybe somewhere down the track when for some reason I am feeling better about myself I will make the effort.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I know what you mean ladies.
It is easier to stay at home but yesterday i bit the bullet and walked, in the lovely sunshine, to my local coffee shop. Got a coffee and shuffled back.
I needed a rest when i got back, but it felt nice to be out.
I don't think I could handle anything more though.... it does take it out of you.
As for mixing with others..... still too hard. I am supposed to go out tonight....a regular Thurs night drinks and nibbles at our club.... not going...maybe next week??
Hang in there guys. I'm giving myself a month to recuperate then back into it...socializing, the gym etc

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
"Become a hermit"? Oh my goodness, I've no idea what you mean! (Just a hint of sarcasm there)

Yeah - can relate to all that. You're right - it's so easy to think that this is the be-all and end-all. Really takes a bit of guts (yeah, yeah) to get out there and mix with the real people again. My sole focus in the last couple months has been this new life - but it's not much of a life if you can't spend some of the time with friends. (not discounting all the new friends I've made here) :-)

Thanks ... i can see how it would become so easy to be a hermit... Yes its time to get out in the sunshine and talk about non band stuff.

I think it consumes me too much these days.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
Even if she doesn't see the difference - you can feel it and that's what matters. You know I think even your demeanour changes when you've lost some weight. It's always encouraging when others notice - though sometimes that can be embarrassing too.

Enjoy your coffee, Trish. Might be just what you need at this point - to get back out there and do some of the things you were doing previously. Have a good day. :-)

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I tried to exercise yesterday... I saw your post about the wii and the kids have been at me to play so I did...but it hurt deep inside... Its been 2 weeks since banding but maybe something needs a bit longer. I tried the treadmill but I got really knocked up quick... prior to banding I was doing 30 mins a day.

The snack book sounds divine but alas given my recent history its one must read that I better not indulge in.

I have just measured the holding capacity of all my eating bowls etc and am ready to start again... wish me luck!

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
I am getting sooo hungry on mushies and I think they are making it worse... after all my non carb garble yesterday I found that water crackers melted on the toungue so I was buttering them and eating them...see once a fatty always a fatty... I just couldnt stop.. I just kept eating them. I dont know how many I ate but the butter was so thick it looked like cheese ..and I just buttered one after another and ate em.

Then I promised that I wouldnt eat dinner but was staaaarving by 7.30 so had a full cup full of gravey and pureed meat... then 2 ice blocks half an hour after that..

I hate myself right about now!! really hate my self

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
i would love a good feed of fish n chips and when I think about it I drink lots (water that is,with a splash of lemon juice) and the last two days with exercising I haven't felt as hungry, so that being the case and me cutting out the cottage cheese for lunch and replacing it with pureed broccoli and cauliflower when I weigh in Friday it ought to be a very very good result.

I am using Wii Fit for exercise, it has a couple of step aerobics style exercises on it which are good fun, and one of them you can change back to the telly and just lisen to the rythm on the wii remote. I did 30mins Monday, 40mins yesterday and will be going for 50mins today. I end up sweating like a pig though and my husband works from home I have begged him to stay in the office while I am exercising so I don't have to worry about looking like a complete tool.

There is a lapband cookbook called Eating Well After Weight Loss Surgery, I was thinking of purchasing it as it concentrates on high protein low carb foods, all I know about food and have ever been taught is low fat, high fibre, don't really know what foods are carbs, proteins and the like, there is probably a dummy book out there for me.

I had a regular KFC potato and Gravy when my husband had take out, very nice and only about 3g fat, no goodness of course and it took me 20mins, he had burger, chips and some of my daughters nuggets and still finished before me.

You know my daughter now 23months has 3 weet bix for breakfast, not bad for a little one, and she's not heavy, I think she must have her fathers metabolism.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
pretty much trying to stay out of the cupboard and find something to cook for dinner. My husband is the same, he can cut one peice of bread a day out of his diet and he loses half a stone...its really very cruel.

I made an apple pie from scratch for the family the other day and it was murder watching them eat it... pfft its the story of my life really.

I have a friend who knows that I have the band and she is trying to convince me Im not eating enough and has suggested things like cheese cake and kfc chicken chopped fine and stirred through kfc tata and gravy as snacks between meals...

Nice as it sounds I dont think i need it. My rebound wieght will catch up with me soon enough I feel ... I dont think i need to help it.

I am think that I might make some free veg soup and put little protein in it or make drop egg soup or something to get me through the hungry patches that are getting more consistant during the day... I hope a fill will eventually fix this I dont know how long I can hold out.

Re:Mushies Stage Reply to this message
morning, you know I love my red meat and have just now been searching for slow cooker recipes for my cows in the freezer. I thought that smoked salmon was pretty high in protein. I probably should eat a little more but I am trying to stick to (just for a kick start) under 700cal and under 6g fat and I am only just doing that with the little that I am eating.

I found an absolute stack of recipes on internet and cannot wait until friday to try one no doubt it will be beef and really looking forward to an eye fillet albeit small, I might need to do that before my fill on Tuesday, so many foods to fit in before then.

My husband is also very supportive, but he does have his times, I asked if I could have two weeks off cooking for him he said not worries and has had two meat pies nearly every night, the smell goes right through the house, but he doesn;t eat them straight away he opens the oven door for about 1/2hr to let them cool first.

I cannot believe with his two meat pies, two ham and cheese toasties and mars bars each day he has lost weight, about 1.5kg, its just wrong.

Anyway shopping today for the rest of my life, no more junk, I told my husband he can have all the treats he wants providing I don't like them, we do have different tastes so not too difficult for him.

Whats in store for you today.
